Bungie says ‘notable number of PS5 players are playing the PS4 version of Destiny 2 on their current-generation console’

tbh, this is sony fault, i mean yea people should be smarter, but sony should have done a lil better on the version issue. Its pretty embarrassing

They stopped giving shit, i still have this issue where when i put in a disc for a ps4 game that has a ps5 upgrade it automatically starts downloading the ps4 version, even though i've already got the ps5 version installed.

Doesn't happen with all games, but happened with a few. I gave up and just let the ps4 version install.

Sony need to make it clear from the UI there's a clear upgrade path. Then they should copy the PS4 save to the cloud, upgrade to the PS5 version then download the PS4 cloud save into the PS5 file system.

Sounds like Sonys fault for not having a clear cut system that gives priority to the PS5 version to install.
Except every time i have to download a crossgen title the PS5 always asks me which version i want to install.

If people don't know the 5 comes right after 4 then maybe that's not on Sony, but it's just me.

Guess most people never bothered to check or install the PS5 version since it came out in 2021 they just kept playing what they already had installed.

we are the elite of gamers.

99.9% of people don't care about the things we care about because they have lives. I dont blame them either.

Back in the day when I just loved games the framerates, textures and pixel counting wankers like digital foundry didnt bother me one bit.

This is why Smart Delivery exists, and why it isn't just a marketing term like so many claimed during the launch period of the Series X.

Yep.

It's good to have the system know which version to download/install without the user having to fiddle about it.

It literally asks you which version when you go to download. Maybe some think the framerate will be locked more, or just transferred their PS4 games over.

This too.

That's now. There was a period where you would need to find the specific version you wanted to download. It's been confusing since the start and I'm not even going into the disc versions where the PS4 update download would overwrite the PS5 version. It's better now but it hasn't been gracious.

I find it hard to blame Sony here it literally has an icon next to the games stating PS4 or PS5 when you hover over it this is more user error 😂

This shit even says "Do you want to download the ps5 version?" on ps5 when starting a download on ps5 for a cross-gen game. I don't think the problem lies with PlayStation here my friends 🤷‍♂️

It has now. It didn't before.
That's true but it also asked what version you want to download idk I guess Sony could have it automatically download the PS5 version it's obviously a problem and everyone isn't technologically sound. They could also have a prompt when playing the PS4 version of games on PS5 warning them that an upgrade is available for free

"Some PS5 (Destiny) players prefer 30 fps over 60"

Still torn between 4K60 PS5 or Ultrawide 1440p PC when it comes to D2, mostly going with the latter because M/K works better with left-handed.

Does the PS4 version on PS5 have a locked 60fps whereas the native PS5 version doesn't?

Could be an Elden Ring type thing, I play the PS4 version on PS5 cause of the locked 60.

For all the talk of 'people mainly want the powerful consoles', this is the level of knowledge we are dealing with when it comes to the average consumer.
I don't think it helps they make it so confusing on the console itself. If you insert a ps4 disc of a game that has an upgrade version, you should just be able to install and see the upgrade version. Instead you can install both, and if you're not paying attention, you'll end up playing the ps4 version. Happened to me with ghost of Tsushima, the way the shitty menu handles it is confusing.

I had to still deal with the PS4 version of game pop up on the dashboard every time I insert the disc version of Horizon FW.
Well it is a PS4 disc I'm guessing, but that does sound inconvenient. I'm all guessing it's still a fairly painless process to get the PS5 version. The most annoying thing was trying to get FFVIIr upgrade, and even worst was the PS+ intergrade upgrade.

And what if that happens to be the ps4 version like with Elden Ring?
Fine. Make that the default then as opposite to the mess that is the current system of downloading 2 games or giving the option when downloading instead of just defaulting to the best/current version.

A smart delivery system here would be beneficial, however there is still that odd circumstance where you actually do want to play the PS4 version over the PS5 version. (Elden Ring for example.)

If only they could implement a smart delivery system but still let you download the PS4 version if you really wanted to, perhaps hidden deep in the menus somewhere.

Or maybe if you play the PS4 version on PS5 that has a PS5 version, there should be a system prompt informing you that you're playing the PS4 version and should instead download the PS5 version.

It is not. It is the PS5 disc version of the game. If that was the PS4 disc I would be okay with that as I would understand that Sony failed to develop a smart system to deal with the issue. But why every time I insert the PS5 disc version of the game I get the PS4 version to download even though the PS5 version is already downloaded?

And yes the system is at the latest software update so it is not that. It is just bizarre as I thought they patched it but I guess not.

Ok, that shouldn't be a thing. Whenever I get games from PSN there's a screen that let's you pick which version. I'm surprised it's not the same with a disc.

Exactly. I bet the "notable number of PS5 players playing the PS4 version" of Destiny 2 are playing it by mistake.

This so much. Even I with some knowledge of this stuff. Didn't know you have to manually change the settings lol
if it's advertised as 120hz or 144hz why wouldn't it be running at 144hz to begin with? why does it have to be a setting you gotta enable

This is a Sony problem. If you're on the PS5 and you access the PS Store you should only be able to download PS5 versions of the game. If there is no PS5 version, then obviously you should be able to download PS4. They made it super confusing.

Umm, this is on Bungie. Shouldve had the PS5 version ready at launch so when people went to download it on PS5, the first thing they saw was the PS5 version.

And even today, instead of making a blogpost, they can easily code a few lines of code to determine if the PS4 version of the game is being launched from the PS5, and simply remind players to download the PS5 version instead. They have all the messages UI built in. I remember getting notifications and other pop-ups back when I used to play Destiny.

Sadly it is not. I believe it is the same for other PS5 disc games. Insert the PS5 disc version of the game. I get 2 downloads. I delete the PS4 version. Play the game. Eject the disc to play something else. Insert the disc again to play the game. The PS4 version pop up as a download that I had to delete again. Every time. Again, it is just bizarre that this hasn't been patched, unless it is something weird related to my country store that make it does that even though I don't have to go to the store as it is the disc version. Or maybe the country version of the disc. I just don't know.
