Since it's next to "chief - 1" it could always mean:

arbiter

I assumed it was a vehicle mod, since it's after a series of vehicles. Could be anything though.

I should hope so! But my guess for the new version of an old favorite would be the Scorpion tank.

There is definitely a new version of the Scorpion, but nope, that's not it...

love your new avatar! Are they bringing back distance-scales and night-scope on the sniper? I missed those in Halo 2 for some reason.

You tease.

When I first read it, I thought it was the Brute Ghost (whatever the new name for that is...Mauler, Chopper or whatever)...this might be the case because I don't think anyone thought the Spectre was a "favorite." I thought it might be a Pelican and then the comment about the Arbiter definitely didn't go unnoticed. I'd like to see the cooperative game divided between the Chief and the Arbiter (much like Gears did), but I'm curious about the anti-Arbiter crowd out there and how they would take it...they seem pretty vehement about the whole issue. I liked the guy personally.

That's 2-3x the biggest battles in Halo and Halo 2, right there. And that's an "average" encounter. I wonder if that same fight is even bigger on harder difficulties. This is exactly the kind of stuff I was hoping would be in H3. :D

I'm pretty sure that there are even bigger battles in Halo, except for the 15 vehicles.

Speaking of vehicles, here's a special on the Warthog - check out the freakin' detail and lighting, as well as the details like the cake-dry mud/dirt all over it - it looks real...

http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&link=BAGwarthog

And they are mentioning the Warthog variants that were in the EGM Halo 2 exclusive that never made the cut - hopefully we see 'em in Halo 3?

What I want to see with the Warthog as well is that it bounces even more realistically after jumps, like the Halo Wars trailer's first few seconds...

Unit Replacement Cost: cR. 52000.00

I would SO pay 52K cR for a Warthog. Someone needs to open a dealership.

The Rocket Hog never made it to Xbox. In Halo 2, we got the M12 and M12G1, the latter being the Gauss Hog, which used a magnetic coil as a firing mechanism. There was no Rocket Hog in Halo 2, and with the Gauss Hog, there was really no need for one.

God damn that ride is hawt. Days like these make me glad to be a Halo fan.

As someone mentioned before, i really appreciate the campaign info.

I was wondering what most people are most excited about in this 3rd game, MP or campaign? I am just way more excited for campaign since i pretty much already know what to expect on the MP aspect of the game. I really think that they'll be able to not only equal a lot of the unfulfilled promises from Halo 2 but far surpass them.

Halo 2 was very surprising in the direction they chose to take the battles. I remember Halo 1 getting so much acclaim for its huge open battles and assumed that it was considered one of Halo's most distinguishing features. So i got the impression that it would have been the most important feature that Halo 2's campaign would focus on. Instead, it seemed like they did the opposite and scaled them back. I never understood why they did that.

The good news is it looks like they are gonna focus on making Halo 3's battles epic again and hopefully blow away even Halo1's awesome engagements.

sp for sure. like you mentioned, i really look forward to these epic battles frankie keeps talking about in the updates. there were good battles in halo 2, but IMO, there were both less of them, and they werent as fun as the best in halo 1.

even more then that though, i really hope that h3 features the same open environments as halo 1. despite being confined by cliffs/oceans/walls, the levels in halo 1 felt real. i didnt fee constricted by invisible walls like many of the levels in 2. i really hope that feeling of being able to freely explore the stages and come up with creative ways of tackling obsticles returns in 3.

Wow. The texture work on that is nice.

Although I think Halo 2 is a great game and will gladly defend it at the drop of a hat, I will be more than happy to admit that playing cooperative campaign on Halo: Combat Evolved was quite a bit more satisfying and entertaining than playing it on Halo 2 or playing multiplayer in Halo 2, as addictive as it can be at times.

To understand this, I really think you need to look at what makes Halo standout. For me, it was plunging myself into the Covenant horde, guns blazing with a friend at my side doing the same. I remember dropping down the control room's pyramid-like entrance (at the start of "Two Betrayals" on one side to deal the Wraith a fatal blow, while my friend snagged the rockets and played bobbles with the Gold Elite and his buddies. Us taking different routes, different paths and coodinating our attack was perfected multiplayer in my opinion. Sure, competition can't be beat when it comes to human interaction, but the types of battles Frank's been describing in Halo 3 are, well, enough to convince me that Halo 3 will eclipse both previous games in ways we have yet to even imagine.

Also, notice the hint he dropped here...

The hog is tough, but a couple of direct hits from grenades, or a well placed rocket, will end its reign of terror almost immediately. Now if only there was some way to make them indestructible…

It makes sense. A few updates ago, he said this:

Bigness. Personified.

Um. I just got asked to check out a new feature for the Halo series. And I nearly pooped my pants. Like all miraculous features, I asked what the percentage chance of it making it into the final game are. You'd be surprised how accurate those estimates are. This one, I got a plain old "100%, no worries." Tyson downgraded that to 99%. Let's just say that it will make the folks at HighImpactHalo fill their drawers. And the MLG boys will sweat blood with excitement. They will all still moan at me about how we nerfed the pistol from Halo One, but this new thing will at least cheer 'em up for a few months. Or years. It's that big.

I mentioned this on another board that KP frequents and said that I thought it could be a variant of player traits but for weapons and vehicles, but he side-stepped the question. For example, if they bring back the M6D and take it down a knotch (likely), pro players could up the settings to make it play like the original M6D. For HIH players, my guess is this indestructible Warthog idea (if or when implemented), would make a big splash with them.

I'm of the flavor that there will be player traits, yes, but there will always be weapon and vehicle traits. This type of depth won't be overtly tapped during Matchmaking or in default settings to allow a standardization to occur, but it's something the custom fans and people who enjoy tinkering with settings could really get psyched about.

Then again, I could be completely wrong...

The mounted weapon includes a battery for short term operation separated from the vehicle, but normally operates on the vehicle’s power supply.

Hmmmmmmm.

The honeycomb pattern in the background of that pic is the same as on the shield "bubble" in the CG commercial.

I guess i'm a jaded old man at this point, but I can no longer read impressions of a game from the developers mouth, and truly get excited about any of it. If this was some random journalist, I might get more excited, but i've just seen it too many times before, and let's face it, developers are usually in love with their own game. They think it's always great, and always looks amazing, and all of that.

How many new mothers do you meet who say "God, this kid is a pain in the ass, he's not cute, he's not smart, and lord only knows if he'll ever amount to anything". :lol

Of course not, so you should take developer "blogs", and the like and think of them like a mother talking about her new born child. It's always the bestest, most cutest, and pefect thing ever created.

With all of that said, i'm still very excited about Halo 3, but i'm just taking that very "let's see the goods" approach to the single player this time. I want to see this game be stunningly awesome, and I expect to find out when the first reviews begin appearing. Until then, i'm sure i'll find myself reading these comments from Bungie and replying with a shrug.

That's a healthy attitude to take. My mandate is self-imposed and it's simply to tell folks how I genuinely feel about the game, without added hyperbolae, but it is our baby and you should always read the updates with normal levels of skepticism. I am being carfeul not to talk about things that are risky in terms of being cut say, and I will never ever talk about the negatives, because I know what's being tuned or fixed, so there's no point mentioning bad stuff.

everytime i think of stinkles saying 100% of the original plan for halo 3 will make it... i crap my pants.

halo 1 and halo 2 were not ideal. Halo 1 was a huge rush development, halo 2 got so far delayed that there was only a mild feature increase from Halo 1. Halo 3 is going to be just massive.

I could be wrong, but what do you guys think about this?

FYI: I'm fully aware that if you exit a vehicle now you uncontrollably slide. I'm referring to a more deliberate movement, almost like launching forward in the direction the Warthog is (was) traveling...
