to many, a Mayor is more administrative than political and many people just want lower their property taxes, less anti-car policies and better adequate transit.
The whole Left vs Right in Mayoral campaigns don't have the same significance as a say Premier or Prime Minister
I'm a Liberal and I would vote for a Rob Ford type for mayor if I had the chance, too many car hating activists in municipal politics makes people veer towards Rob Ford types.
the biggest problem from car hating activists is that they offer NO solutions for better public transit. When someone says "MORE BUSES"", people facepalm and say "but those buses use the same roads as cars and will also get stuck in traffic with the cars""
Car hating activists have great solutions. Stop driving cars if you don't need to drive a car.
that's not a solution. When the bus gets stuck on a city street in the winter or when buses freeze at the garage when it's only -15c then we laugh at the bus transit system.
The solution is more subways (metro) not buses.
Buses get stuck in streets that have road work just like cars. Buses get stuck behind a snowplows after a heavy snowplow.
I have walked faster than buses on snow days leaving them to dust
Cars get stuck in the snow all the time.
that's why we all walk on snowdays because buses are totally useless those days
do you guys get snow?
I am a big proponent of more subways (metro)
First, when you have better transit there will be less cars on the road and busses won't get stuck as often / as bad.
Second, subways are great! They're class A transit, gold star. But they're very expensive. LRT is a very good solution, still very good (grade separated) but a lot cheaper because they're above ground. The problem with Rob Ford is he totally opposed sensible transit mixes including LRT (saying they were "just streetcars" which is totally false) and tried to push more subways -- while simultaneously pledging to remove the very taxes that would pay for it. It's especially annoying because he wanted to cancel a much needed LRT line and replace it with a subway that wouldn't get the ridership it would need to justify existing.
I could see the Greens picking up more disaffected NDP voters now that their campaign has been tagged as losing (thus, less motivation to rally around the flag for some people). He still has the Greens way too high, I think.
I was wondering about that, honestly, because this guy is reputed to be a great strategist, but Harper's only noticeable change in tactics in the second half of the campaign was pushing the niqab nonsense, and that actually helped the Liberals by blowing up the NDP.So apparently, Lynton Crosby is not in control of the CPC's campaign and probably has very little to do with the direction Harper took.
This is a good thing because otherwise we were letting the Conservatives off the hook for running this bigoted campaign on their own.

It's just a matter of priorities. The poll numbers if true show lots of support for a candidate promising infrastructure. That's a #1 priority of many people. It's not necessarily one form of transit vs another.
I have a colleague often mention being troubled that there is money for arts spending when the transit is so crowded every day. It's simplistic, yet, makes sense if your priorities involve going to work and coming home in a reasonable amount of time. It's like a household budget - if your roof needs fixing, don't spend time choosing a new paint. Get that roof fixed
That's where the Rob and JT infrastructure viewpoint and support comes from. It's not about one form of transit vs another.

The Government spent 4.16 billion on the arts in 09-10 (~1.5% of total spending), while the arts contributed about 7.4% of the GDP (about 84.6 billion dollars). Not a bad investment.
Lay off the arts.

Stephensaur: The Conservative Pokémon. Do not rely on his appearance because this pokémon is more the "tar" type than "plant". The Stephensaur is calm but not sociable. He can even ignore you for a long period of time if you ask him too many questions. Note that he refuses to evolve.
Charmantom: The Neo-Democratic Pokémon. This pokémon is very aggressive in combat. Outside of the arena, he is affable, but gets enraged very quickly when we talk to him on subjects that make him uncomfortable. This fire pokémon weirdly likes oragne waves, and his opinions change drastically when he evolves into "Thomaseleon".
Justintle: The Liberal Pokémon. This water-type pokémon is very vulnerable to plants. Many researchers believe the origin of his slowness is not the fact that he is a turtle, but because he consumes too many "special plants". His strength and talent can be bowled down to his beauty. Most girls choose him for this reason.
Pikagilles: The Bloquist Pokémon. The Pikagilles is a fearsome and combative pokémon. He has been classed in the "rare Pokémons" category since 2011. Many scientists even say that this pokémon is poised to disappear in the near future. Changes in the political climate are said to be the cause of this. His arch enemy is the "ROC Team".
Let's just hope the Bloc wins his riding by 1 vote so he can live with that.gutter is making an eat crow thread isn't he

Well the long lines at the university poll stations is a tiny bit of a good sign at least.
Seriously though, Trudeau winning would be the biggest slap in the face for Harper. Possibly the most hilarious "fuck you" to his entire campaign strategy.
EDIT: On the other hand, it's kinda waaaaayyy more awkward for Mulcair's case

I have a dumb question. It will be my first time voting.
I have the necessary ID and am registered to vote.
Can I go to my early voting area with what I have or do I need anything else?

Do I have to vote at the place that Elections Canada is telling me to? What would happen if I voted on the other side of the city? Would they throw me out?
Make sure you have the necessary ID in addition to your voting card.
I don't think you actually need your voting card to cast a ballot.

I believe you MUST vote where you are assigned to.
What the hell....? They don't have internet? That's so lame.well your polling station has your name in a listing in which they check down so you going to another place
you'd not be able to cast your vote since they give you a ballot with a number on the back and that number is connected to your name
