I think they pick those places because ramps and automatic doors are already set up to accommodate people of reduced mobility and disabled people

What's the point of mailing out voter information cards if they can't be used as proof of address?
Anywhere with home delivery could have voter cards stolen out of their mailboxes.
I don't think it's unreasonable to expect proper ID to ensure a legit voting process. There's a lengthy list of acceptable forms of ID.

Do I have to vote at the place that Elections Canada is telling me to? What would happen if I voted on the other side of the city? Would they throw me out?

My driver license and voter card has the same address but I won't be able to vote at the particular polling station I'm assigned to. I just went and voted at my local Election Canada office and voted there with those two items. My vote still goes to my actual election riding and not at the riding I'm voting in. Worked very well and simple, but I do believe the deadline to be able to do that is coming up very fast. My voter card said I can do that prior to October 13th, I believe.

Go go go ! Go out there and vote ! It's super easy !

Deciding weekend folks. Have the right conversations and get people to vote ABC.

Anything.But.Conservatives.
This should hopefully be the popular Turkey dinner talking point after the initial discussion over how could the Blue Jays have been bounced from the playoffs already.

This can all be done at the polling station, right? I've already done it but I'm wondering if I need to get my family to do it too.

Register at your advance or election day polling place
It is possible to register at your polling place, just before you vote. But it is easier and faster when you register ahead of time. To register and vote, you must present proof of name and address accepted at the polls

Yep

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?
So a friend's mom posted some more total ignorant boomer shit today.

"The other options are worse" (regarding Harper)

I know for a fact this woman is a small town shut in who knows nothing about any party's platform, and yet still revels in her ignorance like it's the right way and the only way. This is what annoys me the most about her generation. Happy to proselytize the cons without knowing ANYTHING about why. It's infuriating.

People bitch about the NEP even today.

On the plus side I think I've convinced my mom against voting blue. She'll die before she ever votes Liberal (Ontario habits die hard) but at least that's one vote not going to Harper.

That stubbornness sounds like my dad. He doesn't pay much attention to Canadian politics though and he'll be voting NDP.

I wonder if this early voting will make a majority of people vote now and later have barely anyone vote during Oct 19 due to the fact that all the people who wanted to vote decided to vote early and that this was more of dedicated voters deciding to all vote early then a surge in voting numbers

hopefully that isn't the case

What was the makeup of the crowd, demographic wise? If you took notice of course.

My riding is Vancouver Centre. Mostly old timers, wheelchair folks, and those under 30. The 30-50 crowd was very, very thin. I heard a bunch of old birds talking about voting Green.

WTFBBQ there's a Marxist party of Canada? If they can exist, why can't we have the Party of Deez Nuts like the US has. Between Trump and a sack fulla deez, I'd vote Deez all day any day.

Not only is there a Marxist Party, there's also a Communist Party of Canada. They do not like each other.

What the hell....? They don't have internet? That's so lame. :(

They don't even have computers. I made a joke about it and everyone in line, plus the pollsters agreed with me Thankfully though it went fast today, only took 10-15 minutes and everyone in line was joking around with each other. Since we were in a church, we saw that the back door right behind the polling station had a type of distorting stained glass and a joke was passed around about the candidates fighting to peek through the small window.

There was 3 people around my age (early 20's) too, so that was interesting, the rest of the demographic was split almost even between above and under 55yr.... though I was personally distracted by one of the pollsters who looked like an older Chris Hadfield

Not only is there a Marxist Party, there's also a Communist Party of Canada. They do not like each other.
Weren't they one party at one point? Something about Marxist splitting from Communist after a dispute in the 90's from Elections Canada trying to take away their designation of being a Party.

I'll probably go to the advance polling station after I finish up some stuff at work. It'll be a long drive from my office, but I reckon that it'll be better than waiting several hours on election day.

I still don't know who I'm voting for, for what it's worth.

Edmonton Whitemud. More than likely it's a CPC lock, but I may vote Green or Liberal. Or maybe NDP if I want to be strategic since they're slightly behind the CPC I think.

Sounds like you know what to do. No sense in voting for anyone but the CPC's main opposition in your riding. Keep in mind that if you voted Green, they would not see your vote - no money, no seat, nothing. Think of it this way, if Elizabeth May were secretly posting here, she'd be telling you to vote NDP. :p

I also would like to vote Green one day but that day won't come until we get PR.

I'm getting stressed out with my mum's crazy rants about "those Muslim's must respect our country's rules & regulations if they want to live here" or "they are gradually taking over Canada, & soon, the world".

I mean, that's the only reason why she wants Stephen Harper & his party to stay. I'm going to vote for the NDP, because I like their policies and I want our economy to improve. I don't know how much of her nonsense I can take.

I like the Greens because they're the only party that's advocating for a Guaranteed Income Supplement, which I strongly support. Otherwise, the Liberals have a pretty good economic platform...

I've actually voted Green every single federal election except for the last federal election.

Hah, you should've seen my family when the NDP won in Alberta :D

I agree that shit is tight. I didn't even know about it until a month ago. It would do so much to change this country. I wish the NDP had it in their platform. I honestly think the Greens need a name change. Up until this election, I thought they were the environmental version of PETA (i.e. can't be taken seriously) but it turns out that they are the best party in the country. Elizabeth May is the best leader too.

My vote for the NDP is so I can vote for the Greens in the future
(actually, I live in a NDP/CPC battleground where CPC won by 1-2 points last time)

Let us just hope that a bunch of Harper fanatics don't go out and attack even more Muslim women if they lose this election
Here's hoping. Hopefully Trudeau's comments in opposition of racism will reduce the damage that people who are easily influenced can cause.
Holy shit lol

I think the Liberals are starting to realize that they're in the lead.

I get it. Mike Duffy … the Senate
scandal … it’s hard to trust in government
once that trust has been abused.
So how about a government that will
get rid of partisan ads?
Make it easier
for people to vote? Make decisions
based on actual evidence? Those are all
things the Liberals will do.
I hadn't heard about this. Are they really doing this? Because that would just be wonderful.

I never got a voting card hope that's ok
That's totally fine.

All you need is a Driver's Licence or a provincially provided ID card. If you lack that, you just need a printed piece of paper with your address from an institution (a bank statement, a bill, a cheque, etc) and a supplemental piece of ID (could be one of the ones I mentioned previously, a debit/credit card, a student ID, a library card, a passport, something printed that has your name on it).

If you lack any anything that has your address on it, you can bring two articles with your name on it, and a friend that means the requirements above. They can vouch for where you live, as long as you're in the same polling district. They can only do that for a single person, though.

Pretty sure a majority of that generation is left leaning. (FPTP screws everything up)
There's a lot of youth today voting CPC. (Even on our forum)
I know multiple seniors that are life Liberals, It's more of a regional thing.

Remember, that the old generation were the ones that voted in left leaning parties before.
The younger generation have to make a difference now and just vote.

Ah yes, I'm sure there are people lining up to commit the double felony of mail and vote tampering. Of course, given that a power bill also counts as address id, they still can if they really want to.

When the CPC MP came to my house, was asked if I'd vote for him.
I said either NDP or Liberal, whoever can take out the CPC.
We had a conversation about it and of those choices, he told me not to vote Liberal.
He told me the NDP candidate was a better option.

The polls in our riding have the Liberals surging.
I guess he's trying to get this riding to vote split again.

This happened to my mom a few hours ago. Luckily my dad was with her.
