I hope my CPC MP rings my doorbell so I can tell him to blow me. Actually, I should see if I still have this lying around.

Yeah, it's funny, I live in a riding that will never go CPC so I've been visited by both NDP and Liberal candidates...but not the Conservative.

They don't even make an effort.

yeah I too am in a blessed riding that would never go CPC and therefore CPC people avoid it like the plague

some volunteers tried to put signs up though only to see how disgusted everyone was because of it

I finding the high Conservative number in Quebec alarming and disappointing that so many people can be convinced to vote on one issue alone at the expense of everything else that is more important

What is vote splitting? Is it the splitting of left-party votes?

Yeah, people who are unhappy with the CPC will vote either NDP or Liberal in my riding. My riding is historically NDP but the CPC won the seat last election and look to be winning it again. The reason why I am concerned about vote splitting now is because the Liberals are on the rise nationally and are "the party to vote for" if you want the CPC out - but the reality is, in my riding, the NDP is the party to vote for.

I'm in Quebec city for the weekend. Already hearing a bunch of Con niquab adds on the radio. Jesus Christ

radio-poubelle. People in Quebec City have no minds of their own, they need talk radio to tell them what to do.

when talk radio tells them to vote Conservaitve, they all vote Conservative. The irony is that it was talk radio that told them to vote NDP in 2011.

Quebec City people are not left wing nor right wing, they are Radio Wing

There's two weeks left until (I think) most people go out and vote. This niqab thing has been going on for close to a month now. Even with it, the Liberals are doing better than the Conservatives right now. I'm hoping that people will tire of the issue by then leading a CPC mini-collapse (other than their base, of course).

Oh shit, the Liberals have a 7% lead over the NDP in my riding. Feel kind of bad for Andrew Cash. He rode the wave in the last election but he's been a really solid MP. This kind of forces my hand... ugh, shit like this is why we need proportional representation.

I was down in Toronto in August, and was shocked by the number of signs he had up already. Apparently they've mostly been taken down now? I read that in brief somewhere, but can't remember the reason. Something about putting signs up without people's permission?

Though a reminder to everyone about riding polls: very few of them are reliable, so always take them with several grains of salt. You can tell much more by looking at the number of signs on private property, and by using Wikipedia or Elections Canada to look at the results from the last several elections.

Unfortunately, with my riding, the riding poll is probably right. I can't tell if it's NDP or CPC.

Has anyone seen those Post Apocalyptic Anti-Trudeau commercials from the Conservatives?

"You will pay for it. We will all pay for it" it sounds like Harper is painting him as the freaking devil.Holy shit talk about desperation.

For the love of god, will somebody find this on YouTube

My riding is a little complicated in terms of signs too.

My riding is huge, and since I live in the largest municipality in my riding I'm not able to see what the markup is in the other townships. All I know for sure is that in my municipality, NDP is winning 2.5:1. Of course at the same time all the parties have a candidate in a different corner of the riding, and it just so happens that the NDP candidate lives in my municipality, so the perception is skewed.

Seriously? I thought Blaikie's dad was close to a god in that riding. I'd have expected him to inherit that whole machine, even if it's been a decade.

!!!! I just finished reading a book about the 1964 US election, where Johnson basically ran character assassination ads against Goldwater for four months. This sounds like something straight out of that. Though if that's what they've resorted to, their internal polls must be reflecting what Nanos is saying more than what Ekis has.

I hadn't heard about this. Are they really doing this? Because that would just be wonderful.

Yes...
We will ban partisan government ads.

The federal government should use advertising to promote government programs, not partisan agendas.

We will appoint an Advertising Commissioner to help the Auditor General oversee government advertising. The Commissioner will review proposed messages to ensure that they are non-partisan and represent a legitimate public service announcement.

While the changes are pretty hokey... seriously you don't have ID with your address? How does every person NOT have this? Does every province not have ID cards (basically driver's licenses without the license)
Health cards here don't have the address printed on it.

I don't recall ever needing anything more than this card and my electoral card, WTF?

Not sure if this is true or not, but this was on my Facebook.

"To all Canadians: I went to vote today in early voting, and noticed that my ballot had been pre-marked, with what looked like black streaks, in the 'circle' where you mark your X. I showed the election officials and they were concerned. They threw it out as a spoiled ballot. I got another ballot, and it was marked as well, in the same way = a second spoiled ballot (Incidentally, one ballet was marked beside the Conservative candidate, and one beside the Green candidate). I finally got one that was clean.

Please make sure your vote counts! Ask for a clean, unmarked ballot."

Just be cautious when you vote. :)

Huh. I looked for Daniel on Wikipedia and figured they were just the same person. His father has a very long Wikipedia page and seems like a good MP to have. Lawrence Toet?

A nobody. Now I'm really wondering why I'm seeing so many CPC signs up.
This should be added to the constitution so jackasses can't repeal it in the future.

Holy shit lol

I think the Liberals are starting to realize that they're in the lead.

Listen, if you’re making
$200,000 a year or more, you
don’t need help from the
government, period.

It’s actually the best time to invest in
things like public transit and affordable
housing. It’s not like that time you
borrowed money from dad to start up
that Beanie Baby clothing boutique.

yo, don't even hold back

Damn, I thought Elizabeth May was above that shit. :p

I voted earlier today. The lady there made everyone recite their adress without looking at their ID card. Is it really a thing? I would certainly hope that if someone tries to commit election fraud, he/she would at least bother learning his/her fake adress.

Nobody was doing that in my polling station. Sounds like you found a self-righteous control freak.

That shouldn't be happening. The deputy returning officer's job is to help you vote, not to try to "get you". I'd report that to Elections Canada.

So as someone who sees the glass half empty, I'm expecting a Conservative minority in a week... which means I'm at the point where I'm on team gutter_trash and now I'm waiting for the NDP go into oblivion and for the Liberals to absorb whatever they can from Ontario and Quebec and do better in 2020. That seems to be the best I can hope for now... it's sad, but that's life.

It's appalling to see Conservatives are still that high after the garbage they've been peddling the last couple years.

I don't even know why the sponsorship scandal sank the Liberals so badly if the Conservatives have done so much worse since then.

Because all of their scandals have been relatively obtuse. Like spending a quarter billion dollars paying someone to DESIGN a warship when it probably would have been cheaper to use that money to just buy a ship from an American company (or hell, buy a used European ship).

No one gives a shit about the government burning money on these things.

A Conservative minority will not happen -- the other parties won't support them.

I honestly think the biggest problem is that there have been a LOT of mini-scandals over the years that Harper's been in office. Each time you'd see the Liberals & NDP sounding the alarm that this is the biggest deal ever, people should resign, etc etc (it's their job as opposition, but still), it makes front page news + first spot on evening news shows, but each time it was something... not that big.

It came off as making a mountain out of a molehill. Over time now, I think people have just become numb to it. Oh another scandal that's the biggest thing ever? OK :\

Duffy seemed to be the first one to actually stick.

It would have been nice to have a NDP government for once.

But with needing to get Harper out of the office and the NDP pandering their promises for votes, I can't in good conscience support them this term.

A large amount of Conservative support consists of people that would never vote for another party ever. There will be a lot of conservatives that will be disappointed with Harper and his bigoted 2015 campaign, but they will still vote for him because they like low taxes and in their opinion the other parties will raise taxes, destroy the economy/Canada etc...

In contrast the Liberal party is a big tent centrist party with support from the right and left, and they can more easily lose support either way.
