I refuse to believe that's real. Too stupid. Gotta be fake.

About that

http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/con...a-post-raises-ire-of-postal-workers-1.3272916

"Palecek told CBC News he was "dumbstruck" to see the ad ahead of an all-candidates meeting on cuts to the postal service, a town hall he said Gallant did not attend.

He said the union has tried to reach Gallant, but her office has not returned their calls.

The union is also considering taking legal action to stop "the deceptive" use of its logo."

The mythical conservative "typical family":

what the FUCK is this shit. This is insanely unrealistic. How delusional are they haha

Vancouver Sun isn't part of the Sun Media chain.

Though it's still Postmedia, so it's only slightly less Conservative.

As others have pointed out, this was a Republican ad. The Conservatives may be delusional, but they're not that delusional.

Not an ad. It was part of a Wall Street journal story.

Okay apparently that infographic with the families is from WSJ, in 2013, and not CPC in 2015...

As others have pointed out, this was a Republican ad. The Conservatives may be delusional, but they're not that delusional.

Yeah, I meant conservatives in general, not the Conservatives. I should have made that clearer.

Still, my point stands. The only "typical families" that are going to see their taxes go up are the super rich, as pointed out here:

Caroline Battista, senior tax analyst at H&R Block Canada Inc., said someone earning $300,000 would pay $3,330 more in taxes; at $500,000, the extra tax would amount to $11,330.

So for a family to see their taxes go up by the amount stated in that Vancouver Sun ad, they'll have to earn ~$400,000/year.

so I'm an American, are the liberals going to hold the lead and win?

What does this mean for policy for Canada for the next (four years?)
It looks like the Liberals are going to win a minority at this point (which would be much more stable than the last Liberal minority, since the NDP is going to have enough seats to serve as a sole negotiating partner on matters of confidence, which it couldn't in 2004-2006).

As far as policy goes, the biggest shift is going to be on social policy, much moreso than economics, I suspect. Marijuana legalization is going to be happening very quickly, which you'll probably be hearing a lot about in the USA.

Well, for one we can expect to see Marijuana in our local LCBO (/provincial LCB). In addition over the next 5 years, you can also expect construction projects to begin popping up left, right and center. In the first year, expect a flood of suppressed studies and research from scientists, and over the rest of the term a normalized release.

If we are lucky, you will see the findings of the Electoral Reform Board come up with MMP and Online Voting, possibly also Mandatory Voting laws. You can also expect a bunch of dirt to come out on the Conservatives in the first year as everything begins to settle in and the conservatives begin to collapse under a leadership race.

Oh, so it's like other parliament elections around the world where other parties team up to consolidate seats to form a "majority" over a single other group?

Unless the seat totals of the two parties are really close, not a formal coalition. More like the Liberals are in government and negotiate policy agreements with the NDP on important legislation.

Yes. But the second you bring up the word coalition, the cons turn into the biggest crybabies on the planet despite the fact a good majority of Canadians would prefer their vote to have meant something.

The government we will have after this election will be minority liberal, majority liberal or a liberal/NDP coalition majority almost for certain

because the CPC is a outlier in a House of Commons filled with left parties

the Bloc is extreme left so even they hate the cons

Meanwhile the NDP will be chomping to tear them down, but not force an election, at every turn while taking credit for "fighting for Canadians!" for anything that gets passed.

nonsense, while the Bloc is left of center on socio-economic issues, the Bloc wants more money to the Province babldibla.

but the Bloc is Far Right on identity issues and ubber nationalism. The Bloc has veered further to the Right on identity since 2013

+ the Bloc changes its positions to accommodate the flavor of the month in the PQ provincial party

We should befriend the Nordic countries and get closer to their education system

I see

Muclair claims he proposed coalition to Trudeau five times, so it's not like he didn't try
The nature of FPTP means that it's never going to be in the interests of one of the two parties to admit to being willing to form a coalition during the election, because that just weakens their case for why voters should vote for them specifically.

Fucking wow Vancouver Sun.

They're usually scummy with the real estate and sponsored articles but this crosses yet another pathetic line.

I never knew..... lol BLoc

Brian Mulroney just came back from visiting Garry Bettman trying to secure the Nordiques return for PKP owned Centre Videotron

even if PKP does not get his country, he still holds majority control of French media in Quebec, newspapers, supermarket magazines................. and will be the owner of the Nordiques hockey team

and Brian Mulroney is helping him smoothing out edges concerning the Nordiques

All Post newspapers (Regina Leader-Post, Saskatoon Star Phoenix, etc) have the same Conservative add on the front, and all have endorsed the Conservatives as well.

I know it's a US Republican release, but dang I wish I was making as much as that single-parent illustration. Heck, I'd take on 4 kids for that much.

308 has edged the Liberal candidate by a sliver in Outremont,

I hope Mulcair loses his seat because I don't want a Vote of No Confidence by the NDP in the House during a Liberal minority government and I want the Liberals (if a minority) to have enough time to govern with the hyper partisan snydeness from Mulcair

Here's Conrad Black endorsing... Justin Trudeau!

http://news.nationalpost.com/full-c...try-but-he-hung-on-to-power-a-little-too-long

Needlessly, Harper is now likely to follow the route of greater statesmen who didn’t know when to leave: Winston Churchill, Konrad Adenauer, Charles de Gaulle, Margaret Thatcher, Helmut Kohl. He was a good prime minister, but it is time to see him off. Trudeau, with a minority, will grow or go. I believe the former, but he has earned his chance. We really cannot have another four years of government by a sadistic Victorian schoolmaster.

the worst part of those ads is that they are borrowing Election Canada's black on yellow colours on their signs about VOTE
20110502-np-election-voting0003.jpg

I hope Election Canada looks into the legality of it.

Of course, it still goes with the Conservative M.O.: Do something blatantly against campaign rules, half-apologize for it months later when no one cares anymore.
