again the Quebec government has one police body investigate another police body.

number of aboriginal women came open about being abused by Quebec Provincial police (SQ) in Val d'Or.

A scathing Radio-Canada news report aired yesterday and the Quebec government's knee jerk reaction is to have the Montreal police SPVM investigate the SQ.

IMO, I think the Federal Government should step in and take over the investigation.

This is one area where Federal intervention into Provincial affairs must happen

fuck Province's rights. Human rights should come first.

I doubt that the Montreal Police will be completely objective when it come to investigating Provincial Police.

U.S. allows bovine growth hormone currently banned in Canada
Canadian consumers concerned about drinking milk from cows receiving hormones will need to read their labels more carefully.

Unique to the TPP is the prospect of fluid milk crossing the border from the U.S. The terms of the agreement made public earlier this month specify that 85 per cent of fluid milk imports must be processed in Canada before hitting store shelves.

At the initial briefing offered to journalists, TPP negotiators said Canadian health and safety regulations would apply.

"The TPP fully protects Canada's right to maintain and implement measures to ensure food safety for consumers, as well as to protect animal or plant life or health," a trade department spokesman wrote CBC News.

But further clarification recently revealed that doesn't mean dairy producers outside Canada have to follow the same rules Canadian farms do.

Most notably, it's illegal in Canada to administer bovine growth hormone (rBST) to boost milk production in dairy cattle. But there's no such restriction in the U.S.

No new certification or inspection regime appears set to screen milk destined for import into Canada. It's also unclear whether U.S. milk would be segregated at Canadian processing facilities, or simply mixed with Canadian product.

You know most of these deals...the TPP, the F-35s (primarily), etc... feels more like we are trying to band aid the US while taking a blow for ourselves

the U.S feels like a bully then a partner at times

Milk was all the rage early on in this topic. Basically, I don't like our high, supply-managed prices. But I don't want this substandard imported stuff to catch on either so maybe it'll force Canadian milk to be priced more competitively.

I heard this on the radio last night. It makes me sick and reminds me of the Saskatchewan police that massacred a bunch of Aboriginal people without getting into any trouble. I think they said that the raping of Aboriginal women by police has been going on for more than 10 years in Quebec. Quebec cannot be trusted to investigate this on its own.

The Americanization of Canada was my biggest complaint about the Harper government. I would like Canada to explore other trade options if possible. They're obviously going to be Canada's biggest trade partner but the more we can separate ourselves from the United States the better off Canada will be.

I don't know how it goes in other provinces but here it always a Municipal Police body investigating the Provincial police or vice versa.

the only few times that cops get convicted is when they are caught being dirty with organized crime, besides that they pretty much get free passes

and it's also judges too, judges give cops a free pass here.

Public outrage can sometimes cause judges to revisit their the decisions like when a 4 year old boy was killed in a traffic collision involving an unmarked cruiser running 100km/h in a 50 zone just to arrest a non-violent white collar fraud suspect. The cop did not need to speed during that incident because the suspect was not a flight risk nor violent.

To be fair Harper did put a lot of effort into diversifying trade away from America, hence the CETA , TPP and also various other smaller trade deals (Korea comes to mind).

Canada should tell America to suck it and threaten to join Team China if they don't behave.

I don't see why or how China would be a better hegemon.

exactly most of these recent deals feels like we are downgrading in order to make America stay relevant

like taking one for the Team... well I say to the US... instead of making your allies downgrade to your crummy standards and/or buy Turkeys for planes why don't you first go and actually really fix your country and go towards the modern era like the rest of us

Chinafication of our trade and economy is worse than the Americanization of it IMO.

At least the US has food and drugs safety standards while China doesn't have safety standards almost at all

it bothers me more that Embridge's majority share holder are China and are the ones proposing the North-West Gateway pipeline to the Pacific

Canada should tell America to suck it and threaten to join Team China if they don't behave.

I don't understand when anti-Americanism takes the path of Pro-China. A dictatorship that manipulates its currency, manipulates its markets and has low safety standards low labour standards.

Haha, the TPP only allows less than 4% for foreign-produced milk to enter Canada. US basically bent over backwards for Canadian dairy farmers.

I get it for $3.50/4L. How cheap do you want it?

Milk in Europe can cost less than half of that.

Eh, Harper did run Keynisian deficits during recession. It's funny because he did have a habit of promoting austerity for EU members, but never really pushed it here in Canada.

Another sign that things are different under Trudeau: Premiers agree to attend Paris climate summit with Trudeau

Cooperative federalism: imagine that!

To be fair Harper did put a lot of effort into diversifying trade away from America, hence the CETA , TPP and also various other smaller trade deals (Korea comes to mind).

Reminder: CETA may have been signed, but it's still not in effect, since we're waiting for it to get translated into all the different EU languages, and then for each of its member states to ratify it. If it ever takes effect -- which is a very, very big "if" -- it won't be for a long, long time.

It helps when like 70% of Premiers are from his own party. :p

another NDP falsehood.

The BC Liberals are not Liberals and are not affiliated with the Federal Liberals.

The Quebec Liberals severed ties and affiliation in the late 1960s (that is over 50 years ago)

so please, you NDPers, be truthful before commenting.

Lots of people honestly don't know about the lack of affiliation between the federal and provincial non-NDP parties. Just calm down. You're acting paranoid and, frankly, being a bit insulting.

Gutter trash is always overboard but that is one thing Canadians don't seem to understand the provincial parties are rarely affiliated with the federal party and vice versa.

I know that USA is very scared of China. This is why they are making the TPP. I am saying that Canada should threaten to join Team China if the TPP remains as shitty as it is, instead of just accepting it. Hopefully they would calm down and make it a reasonable deal.

That's not the fault of Canadians. Different parties should not be allowed to have the same damn name.

To run Keynesian deficits you kind of have to get there by spending on meaningful infrastructural and social projects instead of cutting them.

Hey, those "Economic Action Plan" advertisements didn't print themselves!

The plan itself could have had some substance (or any at all) but, well, you know.

I buy homo milk in Ontario (Toronto) and it's always at least $6.00+ where the hell are people buying it for 4.50? Unless you're buying skim or something...

"Canada's Economic Action Plan is working! I mean, you'd think that if it was actually working, that you would notice this and we wouldn't need to show you this commercial. But we are showing you this commercial. Which means it isn't working. But I just said it was working.... Vote Conservative!"

It's one thing to tell people that provincial and federal parties rarely affiliated with each other, it's another to say it in a condescending manner.

And yes, we get it. You hate the NDP. I'm pretty sure you hate the NDP more than the Conservatives at this point.

Man american milk coming in sounds bad. I remember watching a program where the cows that were injected with the hormones released puss which mixed in with the milk.
no thank you

Divvy

Canadians burned my passport
Yeah, fuck that noise. It's already hard enough to eat anti-biotic free meat, having to pay for hormone free milk would be annoying as shit.
