Candyman is getting insanely good reviews!

I feel like Jordan Peele could make a good Freddy or Jason movie. Maybe he should be given the reigns to one of those franchises.

I watched it last night, it was OK. I was a fan of the first one and this is in the same vein. Thing is that the first one had a novelty factor and it also has nostalgia on it's side.

Now, I'm not very sensitive to all the topics regarding gentrification, racism, police brutality, etc because it's not the reality I live so I tend not to notice that stuff, for better or for worse.

Acting is good, specially considering the context.

It seems they are planning to make at least one more movie. I'm curious how they would make everything fit although I don't think it would be too difficult.

The movie is well made. Better than most of the movies of the genre released in the last few years. It's difficult to make a good scary movie in this day and age.

Was about to turn it off halfway through but pulled through a bit longer. It was incredibly dull, very on the nose and if you had taken a shot every time a character said "white" you'd have to get your stomach pumped at the hospital. I skipped through the final bits and it appears I didn't miss out on anything worthwhile whatsoever.

I actually had to laugh out loud when a character went: "They like what we make. They just don't like us".

Avoid/10.

Yea that was my biggest concern going into the movie. Aside from some of the symbolism, it nearly beats you over the head with the racial stuff. I understand that's a component of the original, but I also don't remember it being as bad this new one. I still enjoyed it on some level and I'd recommend it to anyone that's a fan of the original.

The idea that there's anything "authentically" Black about Candyman is hilarious to me. Its the product of a couple of white gay English guys.

Glad it's good. The OG was one of the best horror films ever made. Scared the piss out of me.

Is this a sequel, or a reboot, though? I feel like it deserved a prequel/not shitty sequel.

It's a mix. It's a sequel because it acknowledges the existence of the previous movies, specially the first one. It's a reboot in a way too but I rather not spoil the reason.

Just saw this movie. Its so inferior and much worse than the original. I haven't seen the original two sequels so can't compare with them. I suspect this movie got great reviews because of the whole woke thing. I'd give this movie a 5/10. Don't waste your time on this. Go watch Malignant instead.
