ho jeez look at the butt on that.

Damn near 20 years and not one "To me my X-men!!!"

PATRICK STEWART WAS THE PERFECT MAN TO DO IT, THEY EVEN HAD THE MOTHERFUCKERS ASSEMBLE AT THE CHAMBER AT THE END OF THE FIRST ONE AND HE DIDN'T SAY IT.

Shit still pisses me off. Waited my whole damn childhood for an X-Men movie and they didn't even give me one fan service line.

You got a juggernaut bitch. Be happy!

I was rooting for a "Welcome to die!"

Are you delusional lol. Never going to happen, either thing.

They said a Spidey film wouldn't bomb and that Sony wouldn't make the deal and it happened.

There's gonna be a deal, it's just a matter of when, there's too much money on the table for both to not do it.

Not that this has anything to do with the Cap 3 trailer but, you know, I'm bored and it's 9 AM and I'v been up for 30 hours.

They already had a successful movie with the rights this year on a low budget movie (Deadpool). A sequel is guaranteed for that, so Fox wouldn't considering giving up the rights for some time.

Something that I feel like is really important to note is what we mean when we say "bomb." ASM2, according to Wikipedia, grossed $709m worldwide on a $255m budget. To the average person, this obviously does not look like a bomb, right? They made back almost three times as much as they put in. But to Sony, this wasn't enough.

These budget numbers often don't include marketing, they don't include sunk costs on future films/sequels (Sinister 6, Aunt May movie, others) that were gearing up and getting ready to go into production that were canned, and they don't include cross-promotional stuff, which is likely most significant for ASM2. When the movie came out, you couldn't buy a box of Cheez-Its or some fruit snacks without Spider-Man on it. They tried so hard for the movie to be a thing that they pumped what was likely hundreds of millions of dollars into the marketing budget, so while the film technically did pretty well on a gross vs budget scale, it wasn't ENOUGH money.

Now, will this happen with X Men? Probably not. Fox seems to know what they're doing, and I don't see the massive cross promotion with their movies as I did with ASM2, which obviously sunk Spidey for Sony. Especially after the incredible success of Deadpool, I don't think Fox would make the voluntary decision that Sony did to let Marvel have their properties. After F4 bombed, if Deadpool had done the same, I would've found it likely, and I just don't see the mainstream hype around X Men that I do for Civil War or even BvS, so it might be possible, but if anything, Deadpool just became their most profitable X character.

Is Fox re-calibrating their superhero slate? I would find it pretty likely. We already know about a DP2, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear about a 3, but I also don't know if we'll see another "X-Men" movie after Apocalypse for a while. X-Force with Deadpool, Colossus, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead at the head of the team? Absolutely. But another movie with Beast and Mystique and Magneto and Professor X and Cyclops and Angel and Kitty Pryde? Seems like a whole lot of money for very little public buzz to me.

ASM "bombed" (underperformed) because it was a terrible sequel to a terrible reboot to a franchise whose last sequel before that was also terrible. And Sony didn't even sell the rights back to Disney, they just worked out a deal where new Sony-made Spider-Man movies will be connected to the MCU.

By contrast the last four X-men movies (including Deadpool) did well, so why would Apocalypse bomb?

Also, why would Disney even want X-men when they've already seemingly committed to using the Inhumans as X-men surrogates? A more likely scenario would be Disney working out some deal for the Fantastic Four rights... not even so they could do a Fantastic Four movie, but because Phase 4 will be missing something without Namor, Silver Surfer, Galactus, etc.

edit: apparently universal owns the rights to namor, weirdly.

Never say never, although Fox have been doing pretty good with X-Men (only 2 really bad movies out of 7, so far) and Deadpool was great too.

They did totally screw up Fantastic Four, 3 times though, so that deal could happen, seems they really don't get FF but I bet Marvel Studios could pull off a decent FF movie in the MCU.

Any deals would ultimately come down to how well the new Marvel / Sony solo Spider-Man movie turns out, if that's a massive hit, maybe Fox will want a bit of the pie, which so both sides would benefit from, extra money for all involved, Marvels input to make great movies and we get all characters in the MCU.

We can only dream this happens, but it would be great.

I'm still not sold on BvS either; I'm going in a few weeks, but it's still a Zach Snyder movie.

Although Fox gets a pass, Deadpool is awesome. And Days of Future Past was pretty neat too so maybe AoA might be good.

I really wanna know why a kid like Spiderman would be ok with underwater jail for people who don't agree to be regulated.

If he doesn't switch sides because 'money', then Spiderman is dead to me.

Like the spiders in my home.

Well for the record the people behind the movie specifically stated they wanted to stray from the comics which made Tony look like a dictator.

Not to mention in the comics Spiderman gradually realises he doesn't agree with Tony's actions, and it would never come down to "money" anyway.

I just want Spiderman to kick Iron Man's ass.
