Cemu Thread: Emulating Wii U Games

Really amazing, but he says in the update notes that 174 doesn't improve frame rate from 173, but it looks great in the clip......

Might be using a super pc...or some really good tweaks. Someone mentioned there are tweaks that improve things a lot but I haven't come across them yet. Only that cpu affinity thing that gives like a 5fps boost to my i7. (set affinity in task manager to cpu 0, 2, 4 and 6 -disable the rest).

I'll probably also play Zelda in my bed at some point.

Ok cool I'll try that!

It's definitely not running full speed for the entirety of the clip. The open world areas in general, and jungle scene especially are chugging along.

who said this? and what is considered a decent CPU? i have an overclocked 6700K.

It's the Patreon release date of the next version which likely fixes up enough bugs for it to be considered playable. A 6700k is plenty, although performance will be up to emulator optimization, at some point you can't brute force performance out of games.

Somebody please help me. This is what my dump folder looks like:

And this is the AOC folder:

My Mario Kart 8 DLC will not show up in CEMU :/
What am I doing wrong?

The DLC needs to go in the Cemu folder itself. For that content specifically, place those numbered folders here

<cemu>\mlc01\usr\title\00050000\1010EC00\aoc\content

You'll have to create those last few folders yourself

Yep, GPD runs a fair share of games on Dolphin quite well. Even some select Wii titles have decent performance as well :)

and for everything else, Steam in-home streaming performance is wonderful. Looking forward to doing another BotW playthrough on Cemu, streaming the game to my GPD whenever I just want to get comfy in bed. For now the Switch is good enough, but I'm hoping that it will be far enough along to be played comfortably as-such when the expansion packs drop.

Thanks for the help, is this correct?

I booted it up but my DLC still isn't appearing in game. US copy of the game, if that helps.

I have a definite hard time believing that the next release (April 2nd) is going to "the one" with regards to BOTW, but that's fine. Got to understand that these things are iterative and I'm sure there will be a slew of smaller issues that probably take much longer to find and squash than the overwhelmingly obvious ones.

Yeah, that should be it. Are you sure you're running 1.7.3? That's the version that introduced DLC support.

They've literally, explicitly told us multiple times as much. Between the time frames, performance, and past comments on video codec support which would apply to many of the cutscenes in the game.

Nope, I'm late and on 1.7.2 :)

Let me give 1.7.3 a go!

edit: Yep, that was it. Thanks a lot, 1.7.3 works fine with the DLC. Is this the same method for getting Smash DLC in Cemu?

It'll be a different folder in the 00050000 folder

When you launch a game in Cemu, check the log.txt and you'll see a line like this

TitleId of launched game: 00050000********

Those last 8 characters will be the name of the folder for that game's DLC

Oh yeah, of course. The devs are realistic, I'm more referring to comments from players and the community that are like "can't wait until the next release I'm gonna play this shit outta this thing!"

CEMU guys are good about tempering expectations, of course.

I know everyone is excited for Zelda, but any idea about Tokyo Mirage? That's one game I haven't finished and kind of want to come back.

A few weeks ago I moved up from my old Phenom2 x4 940-BE & GTX770, to a 7700k & a GTX1080. Performance in CEMU is godlike at 4K with all the highres graphics packs and high res shadows. MK8 at 4K, using the true 1080p 3/4 player splitscreen graphics pack is amazing! Super Mario 3D world in 4K is amazing with 4 players. My few good WiiU games are finally getting playtime with friends and its glorious, totally wish Nintendoland worked and somehow had official gamepad support. :(

And BoTW OMG, Totally validated my WiiU purchase of that game in lieu of a Switch! Loving when BoTW is at 30fps in most spots after the cached shaders load in. And once 1.7.4 hits it's going to be amazing! The only places I've been that dont hit 30 more than 90% of the time are Hateno and Kakariko, everywhere else its nearly perfectly smooth with minimal drops.

I'm really hyped for future performance improvements, and in the meantime 1.7.4 having the option to disable double buffered vsync for a more granular FPS when below 30 without dropping straight to 20 will be amazing.

Speaking of Zelda, does anyone know if there any fixes for the crackling / stunted audio in Wind Waker? I'm talking about those quiet, vinyl-like pops that happen when you're sailing, mainly.

Is that even normal? Game seems to run flawlessly for me other than that. Only Cemu title I've tried so far.

17k shader cache...
How much RAM does it eat?

It's roughly pulling all my 16GB while compiling but after the compile during gameplay task manager shows CEMU with 3.8-5GBs actively being used.

Also!!! Having the ability to swap the Eng voices with the Jap voices... OMG It's so good! OOOOOMG I was WAY more hyped about getting this working than 4K resolution. Basically I swapped the voices and got to keep all the text in English so now BoTW :ocaton voice: is like one of my japanese animes! :D <3

I usually refrain from saying hyperbolic things on GAF regarding technicals (magic etc), but darn, that is some lightning fast progress.

It will be especially interesting in the coming months how much the graphics can be enhanced in ways beyond resolution. Like making grass be affected by AO, grass casting shadows, increasing internal volumetrics resolution, etc. That is when the game basically starts turning into a PC port of the Wii U version :P

Hoping we will be able to get something close to this.

would be a dream

What type of hardware power do you guys think this was rendered on. PS4, Pro or high end PC power level ?

Do amiibos have functionality in CEMU?

There's read-only amiibo functionality, so most use cases where you only need the amiibo to unlock stuff (Super Mario Maker, Yoshi's Woolly World, etc) work, but if the game needs to write to the amiibo (Smash, Splatoon, etc), it doesn't.

Ah I forgot about the camera rune. I don't think it's required for the main quests, but for side quests it's necessary for some and just extremely helpful in others.
I believe it's required for one or two "main quests, but it doesn't stop you from completing the actual main quest, killing Ganon, you can just go there and kill him without completing the rest afaik.

Then you wouldn't get the
true ending
tho.

Although the
true ending
wouldn't play regardless because it involves FMVs

It could have been rendered on a WiiU as well. Just not realtime. Most engines can be configured for a screenshot mode, with tiled modes and that sort of thing allowing for absolutely huge screenshots on old hardware. I could take 4k+ sized shots of Forza on the 360 with a debug build. Tweak some settings for the screenshot, add some photoshop in the end, and there you go.

While all "main quests" (other than the Great Plateau) in this game are technically optional (i.e. not mandatory to "beat" the game and see the credits roll), this particular "main quest" where you get the camera rune is even more optional than the others. As shiyrley mentioned above, this "main quest" is part of the quest chain to
get the full ending
. Unfortunately, it's also this quest chain where you can get
the Champion's Tunic - the blue outfit from all of the promotional material
. There's no way to get it otherwise, as far as I know.

How do I get past the "You need an update to play this game. Returning to Wii U Menu" prompt when I load BOTW in cemu?

I just ripped my disc via wudump and the encryption key is in proper and everything but that thing keeps sending me to a black screen

Off the top of my head here, but theres a txt file in one of the botw folders that has the game version as 1.0.1. Just change it to 1.0.0, save, and youre good to go.

It worked for me after I installed the title update for BOTW that was released on launch day.

Hmm I'll give this a try

You can install title updates to CEMU?
Yeah, prior to 1.7.3 you had to overwrite/add the appropiate files to your game dump but you can actually leave that untouched now and "install"/unpack it to a specific Cemu folder. I did it with the overwrite method so I can't really help with the more elegant way (yet)

Is Mario 3D World able to be played flawlessly? I tried it for a bit and on level 1-5 there were sections of severe slowdown. I have (I believe) a complete shader cache and a fast CPU.
