EDIT: there has to be a catch with the 100 mbps. What's the daily/monthly cap?

TWC has no data caps in place. They're just trying to fend off the competition from AT&T and Google Fiber. Unfortunately South Lamar hasn't had an upgrade yet and I'm still unsure of when it will happen as the list Zoe posted didn't include it. I can say that to get the faster speeds though I'll need to buy a new modem. There's a good Motorola one and an associated wi-fi router for about $85 on Amazon which I'll pull the trigger on when I can.

So there's a gang of alligators terrorizing Del Valle.

FYI when calling ATT ask to be transferred to a GigaPower Rep. My coworker had a lot of trouble getting Giga because the regular reps had no clue about the higher speeds. He finally was able to get 300 down for $70. This is in RR btw.

May not be available in all areas.

X Games was a blast -- I think it went really well although it was a bummer the Moto X Freestyle had to be canceled due to the wind. Hopefully if they do it again, it happens in May like originally planned. Might help a little bit with the heat. Maybe.

Called ATT.

first agent was a freaking nightmare. I asked to speak to a Giga rep and she kept trying to get me to sign up for speed i already have. I kept telling her: "I din't want 45 speeds...i want 300" and she kept responding with "yes but 45 is faster than your current speeds ( i upgraded to 45 two days ago).

Called in again and spoke to a different agent and got a much faster response which was "it's not available in your area just yet. we will email you as soon as it rolls out."

That's all i needed to know.

At lease you got an clear response this time.

I am so excited for the last quarter of this year. I'm moving with my friends who are graduating from college (I dropped out last year), and it looks like we're heading towards Oak Hill. Right next to the Greenbelt, Zilker and downtown, I am freaking stoked. I've been living solo up on Metric for the past year, I can't wait for this lifestyle change.

Enjoy the traffic!

Btw, I mentioned it in the soccer thread, but the Aztex announced today that they will be playing in the USL Pro starting in 2015 so they will technically be a pro team once again at that point. House Park was not confirmed.. unsure if their 'pro' status would affect that or what. Added two additional new owners including the co-founder of the COTA.

Dammit, didn't realize this weekend was ROT Rally. We were gonna help a friend pick up some Franklins.

Storm knocked out my Uverse. Now I have to wait around on a saturday for someone to come by and tell me it's fried.

While I'm fried.

So by no means is it certain, but the advisory board has okay'd the motion for the Urban Rail.

As much as I am in favor of trains -- and as much as this city needs a train -- I'm not so sure about their projections. Highland Mall area and Riverside? I guess those are the next targets for gentrification?

The storm last night hit me as I was halfway through walking home. The wind broke part of my umbrella and I got completely soaked to the bone. And the street lights all went out towards the end of my trek, so it got really hard to see where I was going. It had been a long time since I had been in something like that.

Hey guys, I was hoping for some advice. I've never been to Austin (or any part of Texas outside of DFW since I currently live there), and I am most likely going to make the move to Austin in October/November. I do plan on coming down to check things out sometime in late July or early August, but since you guys live there and know the area, I figure you can give some better opinions than reading reviews.

First, I work remotely with my current job and they don't care where I move/live so my boss was completely fine with me moving and keeping my job. Since I do work remotely, I need extremely solid internet. I have Verizon FiOS right now and it'll be hard to pass up, but where's Google Fiber going to be at and is there a timeline for when it'll be implemented?

Secondly, where should I look at living? I just turned 25, make around 55k a year and am not necessarily anti-social, I just have a hard time getting out of my comfort zone and don't do well with approaching other people unless I'm forced into it. So basically, I am really looking for an area where I can meet people with somewhat ease and make some new friends as I really don't currently have any (one of the big reasons I'm moving out of DFW).

Based upon that, what's the best areas to look at for renting? I currently pay around 1600/mo for a 2 bed/2 bath/1 garage apartment and live by myself, but I was hoping to trim that cost down a little if I can. If not, no biggie, I can afford it obviously lol. Keep in mind, I won't have a commute, but the Google Fiber thing is a big selling point for me since I need to have solid internet and don't want caps.

Lastly, is Austin more scenery laden than Dallas? Dallas is like a giant concrete city built by man to me and there's not much for nature or outdoorsy things from what I've seen in the past 2 years I've been here. I really do want to go outside since I'm at home all day working and hope that'll help me with meeting people in some way or another.

Thanks for your help!

On a different note i got the 2ds grip from PDP

It is grand. Very comfy. Had some triggers that are nicely positioned.

The only thing was i had to file a part down as it was a sharp edge aside from that all good.

Will post my pics later.

2ds owners note this is a fine grip.

Nice, i had the same one but i modded it and was not satisfied. Damn dpad area was annoying.

I found it near perfect as well but the grip makes it super perfect for me at least.

oh snap so when i went down to the valley i got a hold of a bunch of DC games.

Some gems

Skies of Arcadia

Tony Hawk PS 1

a bunch others......oh and Mars Matrix

Some were scratched but the owner of Gamerz Galaxy managed to get MM running.

So for the next meetup we can play it on my monitor and my Hanzo scanliner

It will be glorious

Go play Mars Matrix.

Are you still there? Can you find Einhander there? Steve won't let me steal his.
Not even Frank was fast enough to nab that one. That copy of Einhander was meant for me.

I really wish it would come to the US PSN though. I would love to play it on Vita.

One of these days I'm gonna fulfill my dream of getting a DreamCast ensemble setup. One day.

Anyways I slipped down to Pinballz for some Street Fighter again with my boys last night. Shit's so fun. I'm really gonna try to make the next (couple?) meetups, but service industry kills me.

If we do a Zilker or downtown/pub crawl meetup I'll try that too. And we need to spam Shawn's twitter so we can throw a welcoming party for him. :p

PM me if you guys have a plan for a meet so I can edit the OP. I'm taking a few days off in the middle of next month. I was going to make a trip out of it but I wasn't able to get a specific day off. So I'll be in town with free time
unless my wife finds something for me to do..

I'm generally game for meetups, but not to create events. I'm planning quite a bit for a West Texas trip for star pictures, and a Peru trip possibly late this year. Needless to say, I have ventured out of my mothers' basement. :p

I'm comfortable with this as Witcher 3 does not come out until next year. At that point I will construct a basement with a 10 TF GPU and a 5 GHz CPU.

At the very least I can help with some portions of a mega OP, like restaurants and shit.

To be honest though, I'm still a San Marcos boy who's just now learning about Austin. I've spent the last year working 60 hour weeks living alone and trying to make ends meet, so... looking to fix that here soon.

Ditto for me as well for food. Fried Chicken being my specialty

Kid parks as well for the NeoParents.

Let me know i can help, you can also pick my brain in general.

For food, Mike Sutter's Fed Man Walking is a pretty good blog. It has his list of the top 55 restaurants in Austin, and I've only questioned a few of his choices. Unfortunately something like 30/55 of his picks are SoCo/Elizabeth Street through 20th or so.

I've fused foodie adventuring with my recent interest in photography (started about a year ago). Album is here.

In addition to his list, I recommend checking out:
1. Taste of Ethiopia
2. Taco More. I'm not sure how I didn't know about this. Cheap, authentic, delicious, and fairly fast service considering they were busy.
3. A+A Sichuan Garden. Though this is strictly for the food. If you're whiney and cannot tolerate a bit of ambiguity if you're being waited on or not, don't go. The food is legit.

Austin has a fairly good variety of fusion ethnic cuisine. Unfortunately most of my work friends and colleagues have the palate of a 5 year old so I typically only have a group of 2-3 people including me these days. Like seriously every damn time they want to go to Rudy's or some fast food chain.

West TX has some pretty good star gazing opportunities:

You cannot see this detail with your eyes, but you can see the milky way disk quite easily. Indian Lodge is a really cool vacation spot if you're into hiking.

If I return I want gun bearing friends. Within minutes of McDonald Observatory emptying dozens of kids there are Coyote howls. And shortly after noises of something scurying around us. Probably something harmless, but considering there was a considerable mountain lion population, we bailed out. But I got what I wanted.

I'm visiting Austin for the first time this weekend. I'm going to RTX at the Austin Convention Center. My hotel is the Best Western Plus/Austin City Hotel which is 2.5 miles or so south of the convention center off I35. RTX is a 3 day event. So what I'm pondering right now is my means of transportation. Taxi or bus? Any thoughts? I know the bus will be cheaper but I'm nervous I'll get myself lost, lol. Most of the bus routes I've been plotting on the Capital Metro site seem to involve multiple transfers either way. Kind of wish I had just coughed up the extra money for a hotel that is closer but oh well.
