37 of 98 draft eligible under class men went undrafted. Deep draft, bad advice or bad under class?

Article about this with some quotes from Saban. Floats the idea of setting up some kind of underclassmen combine that happens before the declaration deadline, which I think has the potential to be a pretty good idea.

Is the main culprit.
I think it's more just the overall quantity of underclassmen declaring. 98 is a pretty huge number, that's literally 3 full rounds of players (plus two compensatory picks).

I hope Michael Sam makes the team. One would think the Rams would be one of the easiest teams in the league to make a defensive roster.
They actually have a pretty solid DE rotation. Robert Quinn is coming off of a Defensive POY 2013 season, Chris Long has been very productive for a half decade, and the other two are productive backups with new contract extensions.

Jameis Winston's dad wants FSU to provide son 24/7 handler

After avoiding charges in a sexual assault investigation last December, it hasn't been the quietest spring for Florida State quarterback and baseball player Jameis Winston.

Recently, he was cited for shoplifting crab legs, a moment he referred to as "youthful ignorance" that resulted in a suspension from the FSU baseball team.

Winston was reinstated after completing community service.

With Winston coming off a national championship football season and a Heisman Trophy, the scrutiny surrounding him will be even greater as he enters his redshirt sophomore season this fall.

His father, Antonor Winston, told USA Today he's working with the university on how to best manage the attention around his son and would like some form of security and supervision around his son at all times moving forward.

"He's supposed to have somebody around him 24/7," Antonor Winston told USA Today. "He's a Heisman Trophy winner so (he's) definitely not supposed to be by (himself)."

Florida State has added additional security to protect Winston on athletic trips, athletic director Stan Wilcox said in a statement to the paper, but it raises the question of how much is enough with an athlete as high-profile as Winston.

Antonor Winston said the latest incident has made it clear to his son that the spotlight on him is growing only larger, and he hopes it alerts FSU that additional attention is needed.

"We hope so," Antonor Winston said. "Not only him. I think it should show the university and us, I think we probably kind of dropped the ball on that a little bit."
Oh, boy.

You think maybe these "yes men" convincing the under classmen to declare are simply in a hurry to receive their first pay day? I have a theory that many prospects in highschool and college still have agents, but they are unpaid....until said prospect goes pro. So, in their best interest, of course their goal is to get their client in the NFL asap, which in turn leads to agents giving their clients biased advice in regards to declaring or staying in school longer ( which could lead to career ending injuries and no pay day ).

This is just my crazy theory of whats happening now, and I have no basis for my claims *avatar quote*

heard this on the radio this morning, but forgot to bring it up. Good point, buck, on how there's absolutely no way something like a 24/7 police escort can be an NCAA violation. No way. Nope.

Dad could just fund it on his own.

What does that say about a person? Is he too scared of the public attacking his son...or too scared to let his son attack the public?

Seems more like he has no faith in his son to stay out of trouble.

Or he's delusional and thinks all these incidents are just people out to get Jameis.

ACC looks to follow SEC scheduling model

Swofford announces recommendation to play 8 #ACC games + 1 vs group of 5 or ND, starting in '17. Sending to business session for approval

It's worth nothing the SEC and ACC have combined to win the last 8 national championships.

Vince Young was released by the Browns today. So he lasted 12 days in Cleveland. There's a joke to be had here but I can't put my finger on it.

Texas just recruited a Brock Osweiler clone. He's a 6'7" white QB from New Mexico. I take it Charlie Strong is going to recruit more outside the state than Mack Brown ever did.

Don't know if I posted the fundraiser rendition of the proposed Wallace Wade renovations, but they just released the final version of what it will look like when the project is done in two years.

yeah.....

So it still address the 3 things people hated about WW, the track, the ugly as Finch Yeager pressbox (that Duke Med owned) and the haphazard carnival look of the concourse. Still, compared to what was shown.....this is a kick in the balls.

Getting rid of the track is the main thing. The track just made it too "high school." I've been to a number of games at Wallace Wade, it's not a bad experience. Seating aplenty!

I don't expect Duke to win 10 games every year, but with sctual support, no reason they can't be consistently good. As it is, this stadium renovation would be inadequate for an average team in a power conference. The original had some staying power. I guess if Duke is going to do something half assed, its still going to be football. Cut is going to outlast K, the AD would be wise to consider that.

The dust has settled after the NFL draft, and it was another solid showing by the ACC. Overall, the league had 42 players selected, the second most in ACC history and the second most by any conference this year (trailing only the SEC’s 48).

ACC! ACC! ACC!

Four of the first 14 players selected in this year’s draft came from the ACC, led by Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins (No. 4 overall to the Buffalo Bills) and UNC tight end Eric Ebron (No. 10 to the Detroit Lions).

Remember, Sammy: it's cold cold in Buffalo. Clemson ain't cold.

For the second straight year, Florida State led all ACC schools in players drafted. Seven Seminoles were selected throughout the weekend, starting with wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin in round 1 by the Carolina Panthers and ending with linebacker Telvin Smith in round 5 by the Jacksonville Jaguars. In the past two years, Florida State has had 18 players drafted by NFL teams.

Florida State 7
Texas 0

Duke corner Ross Cockrell was taken with pick No. 109 by the Bills, becoming just the third Blue Devils player drafted since 2001. He was also the highest-selected Duke defensive player since Mike Junkin was taken fifth overall in 1987.

Marcus Breslin could become first NCAA football player to receive a payout on a loss of value insurance policy:

Breslin could collect between $750,000 and $1 million after his draft stock plummeted following an injury plagued 2013 season.

Before his senior season, Breslin reportedly took out a policy that provided him with at least $2 million of coverage in the event an injury affected his draft status.

In 2012, Breslin tied for fifth nationally in sacks (13), had the most tackles for loss (19.5) by a USC player since 2003 and was among six finalists for the Ted Hendricks award given to college football’s best defensive end. Last year, however, he played in just five games because of a sports hernia that required hip surgery and wasn’t invited to the NFL combine. Breslin had 4.5 sacks and eight tackles for loss before his season ended.

It's close enough. Tie that in with this from the MBB thread

The ACC men's basketball tournament will now begin on Tuesday with a Saturday night final. Champ game been Sunday afternoon for 33 years.

The Big East-ification of the ACC Tourney continues. Purists will be less than pleased.

Just change the name of the league, already.

WR, Uriah Lemay is transferring from Georgia. Joins Shaq Wiggins as having recently left. Wiggins is rumored to be going to Louisville, as I expected.

Cites playing time. It's true, it didn't seem like he's ever touch the field.

The decision to move Brendan Langley from CB to his natural position of WR is making more sense now given how many senior WR's we'll have this year.

Is it too early for muscle pics for our FSU fans. This is UGA RB Nick Chubb, who won't be on campus until the fall, I believe. Kid is already huge, obviously. Next Gurley here, hopefully.

District Judge denies NCAA motion in Ed O'Bannon case

In its effort to delay the upcoming Ed O’Bannon trial regarding the use of names and likenesses of collegiate athletes, the NCAA has filed several motions. The first of these motions was denied by U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken on Monday, according to USA Today.

The NCAA requested that Wilken reconsider a portion of her April 11 ruling. That ruling concluded that the NCAA cannot justify limiting what athletes can potentially receive for playing college sports because paying certain college athletes (football and men’s basketball) would limit a school’s ability “to provide increased financial support for women’s sports and less prominent men’s sports.”

The NCAA has presented a number of “justifications” for not compensating athletes, but the assertion that it would take away from finances for non-revenue sports was shot down by Wilken.

The NCAA had offered five justifications for its compensation limits, but in her summary judgment ruling, Wilken wrote that the NCAA cannot limit competition in the markets for football and men's basketball players in order to promote competition in the markets for women's sports or less prominent men's sports. She also said "the NCAA could mandate that Division I schools and conferences redirect a greater portion of the … revenue generated by football and basketball to these other sports" and the NCAA "has not explained why it could not adopt more stringent revenue-sharing rules" regarding money generated by the Division I men's basketball tournament.
The NCAA has three more pending motions which relating to the O’Bannon case, which has a scheduled trial date of June 9.

The plaintiffs in the case are aiming to establish a system where Division I football and men’s basketball players would be able to receive compensation for allowing schools to use their names and likenesses on television, in video games and in other marketing ventures.

Look, if a "student-athlete's" "brand" is strong enough in college to generate money then they should be allowed to do so. Not many athletes will be able to bank heavily on this anyway unless they are the star QB for a major university with national appeal.

Also, Its going to be a bitch for NCAA 2016 to get licensing for all 10,000+ D1 football athletes to be on their game. I bet a walkon on a roster would at least be entitled to about $3.50 for using their name and likeness.

Did the ACC forget the Big East still technically exists and has the same looking font?

I guess it is easy to forget the Big East now that I think about it again.

Didn't they officially switch to being C-USA 2.0?
Yes. Wait no. Kind of?

Big East conference was created last year and bought the name from the AAC. AAC are the ones still housed in Providence and the Big East is.... Somewhere else.

They're like a fancy A10 now.

Big East's headquarters is in NYC. The whole AAC offices being in Providence while Providence is now in the Big East baffles me.
