Because Americans aren't going to do a damn thing to get off their asses and do ANYTHING. We want to be entertained, not riled up to actually do something :)

Agreed, much of this news is not really news to anyone. I fear that even if there was video of Bush saying "Yes. I lied to the american people. I meant to lie, and I will lie again." Bush supporters would say "Only a true patriot would say something like that!" and the majority of americans would say "Well, what can you do? Politicians will be politicians" To paraphrase the daily show:

"The media could never start another Watergate. It just has lost all of it's credility."
"The media has lost all credibility?"
"No, the truth has."

Now if there was a gay sex scandal bush would be impeached in an instant.

Someone posted it in a seperate thread, but seeing as how no one really seemed to read it, the full Downing Street memo can be found here:

http://www.downingstreetmemo.com/index.html

It outlines a British intelligence meeting and the details of it, confirming what we already know. That said, the site is trying to do the following:

Congressman John Conyers is calling on American citizens to sign on to a letter to the President that demands a response to questions originally posed by Conyers and 88 other members of Congress in a similar letter dated May 5, 2005. Conyers has committed to personally delivering the letter to the White House when it garners 100,000 citizen signatures.

You can use the link to sign the letter. Getting a straight answer may be a long shot, but I signed it anyway, in the hopes that it'll help garner media attention and stir public interest.

If I sign that, will I suddenly be arrested as an enemy combatant?

Thanks for the link, I was wondering about the petition mentioned in the other thread. I hadn't heard he was seeking signatures from normal citizens.

This is fucking ridiculous plain and simple. Something seriously needs to be done, because even the Liberal media can't do anything about the current situation. There needs to be a world revolution, stat. There's too many lies, too much corruption, too much death and sorrow in this fucked up world.

I encourage everybody who's pissed off to write letters to your papers, attend protests, get yourself seen and heard.

It seems like just because the election is over, the media doesn't give a shit anymore about what Bush did.

It's a damn shame really. The media roasted Dan Rather for weeks over not fact-checking a story, but they turn a blind eye to this.

The media doesn't report news anymore. They just report on what they think will give them the highest ratings without offending to big of a demographic.

If "freedom" means having to watch my friends and possibly myself die for a lie, you can have your share of freedom and mine too. I'm going to work for a different kind of freedom, the kind that is honest and transparent enough that the whole country can get behind it, not just the half that are gullible enough to fall for Bush's bullshit.

Fox News is the highest rated news channel in the U.S.

Fox News has political interests with the Bush admin (see the coverage of the election which favoured Bush not only in editorial, but in time, which is actually against vote law - the one that both presidential candidates get equal airtime leading up to the election).

Rupert Murdoch owns Fox. He also owns News International, which owns The Times, The Sun, etc...

I've been saying "fuck the media" ever since I joined this board, and this is one reason why. Why in the fuck do we have "liberal" and "conservative" media to begin with? Shouldn't "objective" media be the priority here?

I suppose in one sense it's better to have publications be up front with their political leanings then claiming unbias while pushing a hidden agenda, but I've never understood how people could've accepted that sort of media at all, or say they want more right/left wing media to counterbalance the other side. It's really fucking stupid.

And there's been a pretty consistent pattern of trivial news stories getting the lion's share of media play at or around the same time some story that's damaging to the Bush Administration rises to the surface for a day or two, only for it to sink under the weight of said trivial story and lack of interest. It's happened far too often for it to be a mere coincidence.

I just don't get America anymore. 6-7 years ago the media was all out trying to find any scandal they could from the presidency, and now suddenly they won't even jump on this. It's like the Bush administration is threatening all the news people with their families lives or something.

It's really pathetic these days. I've just ignored everything basically because if you want real news you have to work for it. All major news concentrate on celebreties, gay marriage, obesity, some random missing person/kid, "national security", terrorist hunts (wur still lookin, Next on FOX) and other crap.

Very little to nothing about real news.

I honestly don't understand who watches this crap. It's not my demographic. All my friends are apathetic and don't keep up with news.
