Chris Dring: In Europe, Astro Bot has done better than basically every new 3D platform game in the last 10 years (Mario aside).

- Targets current gen hardware instead of some impossible photo realism barely playable in an enthusiast class card: ✅
- Doesn't take 5 or more years to develop, making the break even point relatively low: ✅
- Isn't crazy expensive either with teams of thousands, so no BS editions of "play 3 days early for just 50 bucks more": ✅
- Doesn't slave the player in an eternal grinding, focusing on a more traditional experience: ✅

People like it and buy it! Who'd have thought?!

It'd be nice if Sony actually released some numbers, but it seems like they don't care to brag unless a game does 10 million in 3 days or something.

Probably waiting for their 30th anniversary event is my guess.

Sony sucks at giving numbers in general, it always did. They still show Bloodborne at like 2M units in its IR releases.
But, I hope they say something in November at the FY Q2 slides.

What's even more bizzare is gt sport sold over 12 million copies, not a peep from Sony. We only found about it through the insomniac leak.

Nowadays then they give out the launch numbers they do it only if it's really big.

I didnt know there were 3D platformers in the last 10 years besides Mario. So Astrobot beat Hat in Time and Lucky's Tale? Just a bad post that doesnt really say much of anything "basically."

I do wonder if they first ask the studio heads before revealing this kind of data. I can see Kaz not caring much about it, especially since it still didn't manage to outsell GT3 (GT7 will, though).

It's amazing how hard journos are straining to avoid calling Astrobot a failure.

It's the best selling non-bundled first party Sony 3D platformer where you play as a robot flying on a ship that looks like a PS5 controller!!! Gureto suxessu!!!!

Not a ton, but there have been some not named Mario besides the two you mentioned.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Psychonauts 2
Yooka Laylee & the Impossible Lair
Crash Bandicoot 4
Ratchet & Clank
Ratchet & Clank A Rift Apart

Probably others I'm forgetting.

Yeah I dont know. I assumed it would sell well. Just the wording on that guy's post is like 3 caveats stacked on top of each other. Weird.

Sonic Forces, Sonic Frontiers, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Crash Bandicoot 4, It Takes Two, Ratchet & Clank 2016 and Rift Apart, Knack 2, Concrete Genie, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Psychonauts 2, Microsoft-published Super Lucky's Tale, Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 2, etc.
But sure, let's only mention two indie games.

You can list as many as you want. I genuinely couldnt think of them.

Back in September he said it had outsold various games including Sonic, now he is repeating that it has still sold more than those games. It didn't sell more than Mario, It didn't sell more than the Crash or Spyro remasters, he likely doesn't have access to Nintendo's digital sales to say whether it sold more than Kirby, but yes it sold more than Crash 4, Sonic frontiers and Ratchet and Clank.

Nah, I just don't believe Lucky Tale came to your mind before Crash 4. But whatever, please mute me again before you have another meltdown, lol.
You literally dont believe me lol? You are the one having a meltdown over nothing. Mute yourself. I bought Lucky's tale 3x. Not everything is a conspiracy you freak. I hate Crash. I wasnt thinking about it

"Astro Bot has done better than basically every new 3D platform game in the last 10 years (Mario aside). "

That's pretty clear my man and it is impressive. Thus, the thread.

How so? I called you out for such a blatantly disingenuous post, and if your response is something as weak as "huh, well I don't care enough to know about this!", why even post that in the first place?

"New" so not the remakes, not the Nintendo games, not worthy of a new thread, it's old news adding nothing to the data from September

Multiple other posters in the thread figured it out after reading the OP and basically posted the same take. No one is autistic enough but you to throw a tantrum because Concrete Genie wasnt mentioned. Nothing I posted was disingenuous.

I am literally forced to mute you because youre so unhinged. I dont plan on talking to you ever again. Carry on ranting without me.

The only Nintendo game he excluded was Mario (among 3D platformers). This was not stated in September. So yes, new info.

I think Sony has been generally good at creating fun and original platformers. I love Ratchet and Clank. Jak and Daxter was awesome. Puppeteer and Tearaway deserved a better fate. So it's good to see Astro Bot kicking ass and taking names. He has the potential to be as beloved and popular as Mario.

Games like Gravity Rush, SotC, Until Dawn (OG), Demon's Souls and Astro Bot keep me buying PlayStations. PS+ save-copy enshitification, always-online GT7, Helldivers, Destruction All-Stars, Concord, Fairgame$ (yeah I had to look that up) and Until Dawn (re..make) do the complete opposite.

I really hope WWS can regain their traditional console focus.

What's bad about the post? It's useful information.

What's the strain here? He's telling us how the game sold.

Nothing at all. I have never misread the quality of a tweet so severely. I'd like to offer everyone on this site an apology for my thoughtless remarks. Furthermore, if Topher is willing to update the categories in December, I plan on personally nominating this for best gaming tweet of 2024. I dont ever expect forgiveness, but at least future generations could be exposed to this tweet if we give it the recognition it truly deserves.

Is he? Why not give us solid numbers instead of these weirdly specific criterias? We have numbers from Japan and they're pretty clearly garbage.

And if you're equating Japanese PS software sales with European PS software sales, I have a soribashi for sale.

I'm not equating anything, I'm saying the only concrete information for Astrobot sales we have is a pathetic 35000 copies sold in its home market, and then this sort of vague non-info.

Awesome, love when a good game has success! But out of curiosity how many AAA 3D platform games have even been released in the last 10 years? I honestly can't think of one, but I'm sure there are some.

Love to see traditional games kicking goals! Hats off to the teams for making a game and not a service.

SonyGAF, when they bring this to PC, are the haptics worth buying a Dualsense for?

Dring explained why he cannot give numbers, but what he does give paints the game as anything but a "failure".

Yeah, I'd say it is worth it myself.

Kinda funny how you come across as this after fake-crying about Japan Studio just a few months ago. I can only think on how worse LocoRoco or Knack 2 did in their home market.
