Or as I like to call it, the end of Fulmer cup season!

fulmercup-080712_medium.jpg

As of current count there are 112 pages and 11,193 posts in the Offseason Thread. That's 20 pages and about 2000 more posts than last off season!

And now a quick primer to some important off season stories that will affect this season:

Coaching Changes!
28 of the 120 some off Division 1 programs have changed head coaches this season. Some notable changes:

Norm Chow in at Hawaii
Mike Leach in at WSU
Bobby Petrino out at Arkansas
Charlie Weis in at Kansas
Rich Rodriguez in at Arizona
Terry Bowden in at Akron
Houston Nutt out at Ole Piss
Urban Meyer in at Ohio State

Surely all these coaching changes will be successful and lead their formerly mediocre programs to new heights! Except for Jim Mora Jr, that guy is a dick.

Realignment!
Perhaps one of the potentially more confusing changes of the offseason, lots of teams are changing conferences. Let me break it down for you!

ACC
In: No on this year. Pittsburgh and Syracuse in 2013
Out: No one, yet.

Big East
In: Temple this year. Houston, SMU, UCF, Memphis, Boise State and SDSU in 2013. Navy in 2015.
Out: West F'n Virginia. Pittsburgh and Syracuse in 2013.

B1G
In: No one this year, but they still probably want Notre Dame.
Out: No one, but I'm sure they'd kick Indiana if it meant Notre Dame.

Big 12
In: West F'n Virgina and TCU
Out: aTm and Missouri.

C-USA
In: FIU, La. Tech, North Texas, Texas San Antonio. UNC-Charlotte in 2015 and ODU sometime in the future.
Out: UCF, Memphis, Houston and SMU.

Independents
In: No one.
Out: Navy in 2015

MAC
In: UMass
Out: Temple

MWC
In: Nevada, Fresno State, Hawaii. Utah State and San Jose State in 2013.
Out: Boise State, San Diego State in 2013.

Pac 12
In: No one this year, they'd probably love to get Texas but that seems unlikely.
Out: No one this year.

SEC
In: aTm, Missouri
Out: No one

Sun Belt
In: Georgia State, Texas State in 2013.
Out: FIU and North Texas in 2013.

WAC
In: Texas State and UTSA for one season.
Out: Everyone after this season :(

Post Season Bans!
For the first time in years USC will be eligible to return to the post season. Don't worry though! Several teams stepped it up and took their place on the list of teams who can't play in bowls!

UNC: The Tarheels were sanctioned back in March following a lengthy investigation that apparently barely cracked the surface of corruption. They are currently facing a 1 year bowl ban, 3 years probation, loss of 15 scholarships and a vacation of records.

Ohio State: The Buckeyes got a wrist slap back in December because former coach Jim "The Senator" Tressel let the players rampantly break rules. The total punishment came out to a 1 year bowl ban, return of bowl money, vacation of the 2010 season, 3 years probation, and a reduction of 3 scholarships per year until 2015. Also they can't talk about T-Peezy anymore, which probably isn't too hard.

Penn State: In the wake of one of the more saddening scandals in college football history the Penn State football program was hit with perhaps the hardest sanctions since SMU. The total came out to 4 years of post season bans, $60million fine, a loss of 10 scholarships per year and a limit of 65 total scholarship players for the same period as well as vacating all wins from 1998 until 2011. The NCAA also opened up all Penn State players for immediate transfer which cost them something like 11 players from their current roster.

UCF: The Golden Knights aren't the highest profile program in the NCAA but they proved that you don't have to have tradition to get sanctioned. The Golden Knights were hit with the dreaded LOIC and were handed a fine of $50,000, 5 years probation, vacation of basketball victories, scholarship reductions and a 1 year post season probation.

Heisman Pundit's 2012 Watch List
For my money, Heisman Pundit has been the best predictor of the Heisman for a few years now. Here is his list of players to watch:

1. Matt Barkley QB USC
2. Denard Robinson QB Michigan
3. Montee Ball RB Wisconsin
4. Landry Jones QB Oklahoma
5. Aaron Murray QB Georgia
6. EJ Manuel QB Florida State
7. Geno Smith QB West Virginia
8. Knile Davis RB Arkansas
9. De'Anthony Thomas RB/WR/KR/PR Oregon
10. Tajh Boyd QB Clemson

Pre-Season Polls!
We love to hate em, and there's no denying their power. Let's take a look at the pre-season polls!

Pick 'Em!
Every week TTK does the weekly Pick 'Em for us. The winner gets to name the Bowl Season Thread title. Maybe someday I won't be so broke and I can afford a real prize!

GAF NCAAFB Pick'em 2012

Here are the rules (same as last year's):
15 games will be selected by me each week
Players pick a winner for each game and how much they think they will win by (margin of victory)
You can get up to 2 points per game: 1 point for picking the winning team, and another point if your margin of victory prediction is within 3 of the actual margin of victory
You can get 1 additional bonus point in a week if you guess every game correctly (not including MoV)
Maximum of 31 points each week
Each player's lowest week will be automatically dropped
Anybody can play, just post your picks!
Some games come earlier than Saturday. Make sure to get your picks in on time.
Are you a ban-risk? PM me your email address and I'll keep up with you if you get banned so that you can still get your picks in on time.
You have until the time the games start each week to get your picks in. Don't try and cheat by putting your picks after the games have started. Be cool.

Before playing -- please consider if you are going to be playing every week or not. If your plan is to get unrealistically hyped for your mediocre team only to quit when they lose a game that everybody except you knew they would, don't bother!

I hear Auburn's starting center got arrested for public intoxication last night.

Bets on whether Chizik waits until they play directional state university before he suspends him?

...so that happened.

Go Bears! Just bought my tickets for Cal-Nevada next weekend. It's great to be back at Memorial Stadium, and I'm excited to see the upgrades.

5 MORE DAYS!!!!!!!!

I'll be at the game. The perks of not graduating on time!

#rise #hookem

If I really wanted to, I wouldn't have much difficulty finding tickets. However, I just want to see if David Ash's arm has improved, and what Malcolm Brown and Jonathan Grey look like.

Also, the better part was the Red River Shootout tickets.

Oregon has piss-colored uniforms so I'm taking this as Bluemax's endorsement of our program and recruiting practices.

Just pencil me in as a regular poster of the CFB threads as an Alabama Crimson Tide lifelong fan that has been posting since 2008. I'll most likely show up and brag about how we just destroyed whatever pansy we played in a given week, cry about the fact that we aren't ranked #1 in some obscure poll no one talks about, laugh at all non-SEC teams at some point, and show up outta nowhere for the SEC and/or National championship game saying "we oughta have/shoulda been here!!!". Oh, and promptly disappear once a PAC-12 fan starts to throw stats my way.

Does this cover everything for the next five months?

College football seems fascinating.
But... I'm not american so it's kind of hard to follow if you're not a US college student.

Go Herd!

We Are... Marshall!!!

Things are looking up in Huntington. Program finally starting to move in a positive direction after years of pretty terrible football.

I'm sure there are plenty of others in here that are cheering for schools they never attended. If you need help picking a team, might I suggest WSU? Jump on the bandwagon now, before it gets too crowded!

I second that. Washington State would be a great team for a new fan.

Why not, I'll keep an eye on them. (was going to look for some infos about Arizona since the Cardinals are "my" NFL team)

Thanks for your welcome. :)

Also, are you in the US right now? If so, it might be fun to try and go see one of the big time schools play, assuming 1) there's one nearby and 2) it can be done cheap-ishly.

Also need to make sure you involve yourself in the tailgating festivities before the game.

Nothing like gameday. ONE WEEK AWAY WOOOOOOOO!!!!

Thumbs up to bluemax for another year of OPs.

Just goes to show you can't sit on your lead. We all thought TCU had the Fulmer Cup locked up, but Arky finished strong.

2012 Fightin' Texas Aggies Predictions

@ La. Tech - W - Start the season the SEC way: cupcake.
Florida - W - 2 QBs = 0 QBs.
@ SMU - W - Southwest Classic 2.0?
USCe - L - TexAgs will go full meltdown after the hype had been building.
Arky - W - Back in the BCS conversation!
@ Ole Miss - W - Everyone gets the W here, right?
LSU - L - Honestly now...
@Auburn - L - Sherman left an empty cupboard.
@ Miss St. - W - 9 wins isn't so bad.
@ Bama - L - 8 wins isn't so bad.
Sam Houston - W - Bring out the recruits, we need to look good.
Mizzou - W - What the heck is a "tu" anyway?

Final Record: A very respectable (and optimistic) 8-4. I'd be fine with 7-5, just don't lose to a team from Mississippi.
