Diamond's Shipping List for March 2, 2005

JAN050311 JUSTICE LEAGUE ELITE #9 (OF 12) $2.50
DEC040297 TENJHO TENGE VOL 1 $9.95 (Swear to God, if this is censored...)

Hunh. It looks to be a pretty underwhelming week for me, which is good considering how much I spent at the shop last week. And DMC3 is going to take another bite outta my wallet any day now, so I could use a break. On the bright side, since vol. 1 of Tenjo Tenge streets this week, I'll be able to make an informed decision on whether or not I want to order the 2nd volume.

Here's what you non-regulars came in here for:

JAN051802 X-MEN AGE OF APOCALYPSE #1 (OF 6) $2.99
JAN051808 X-MEN AGE OF APOCALYPSE ONE SHOT $3.99
JAN051891 X-MEN AGE OF APOCALYPSE POSTER $5.95

Let's see you enjoy your nostalgia without the mid-90s pricing. :D

age of apocalypse... *pffft* what ruined comics in the first place in the 1990's.....

anyways...

DETECTIVE COMICS #804
FIRESTORM #11

Let's see what sort of ludicrous comics haul awaits me this week:

Walking Dead #16
Ultimate Spider-Man #73

...

Right then. Quiet week. This is probably for the best, as I'm still waiting for a couple of manga volumes to show up at the store. Hell, I may just wait 'til next week; it's not as if I don't have piles of manga in my to-read pile.

FnordChan, determined to catch up on Lupin one of these days

Nah. Here's what ruined comics in the 90s:

97720903230.1.gif
97794297722.1.COVER.E.gif

Polybagged "collector's issues"! Multiple covers! Rob Liefeld! Compared to these gems, Age of Apocolypse was a high point of the 90s...

...which isn't to say it didn't suck.

FnordChan, who bought both of those comics when they came out

ULTIMATE IRON MAN #1 (OF 6) $2.99
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #73 $2.25
X-MEN AGE OF APOCALYPSE #1 (OF 6) $2.99
X-MEN AGE OF APOCALYPSE ONE SHOT $3.99

Not sure about the Age of Apocolypse crap. I'm really looking forward to Ultimate Ironman. I hope Orson Scott Card doesn't let me down like Richard Morgan did with Black Widow.

I'll probably skip going to the LCS this week.

I'll be skipping the AoA event. Bachalo's art is terrible, and Akira Yoshida can't write worth a damn. For those unfamiliar with his work, he's responsible for the godawful X-Men/Fantastic Four with Pat Lee. How the heck did this guy get a job writing comics?

Here's some preliminary reviews for AoA #1, if you don't believe me: http://www.thefourthrail.com/reviews/snapjudgments/022805/xmenageofapocalypse1.shtml
http://www.thefourthrail.com/reviews/critiques/022805/xmenageofapocalypse1.shtml

In any case, I'll grabbing:

DETECTIVE COMICS #804

Looks like I won't be heading to the shop this week.

Also, just to note, last week's 7 Soldiers #0 was probably the best comic of the year thus far. Before I picked it up, I was relunctant about the whole 30 issue mega-series concept, but after reading it, I can't confidentally say that I'll most likely be buying all 30 issues (all the mini-series') of 7 Soldiers.

7 Soldiers was the perfect mix of self-reflexive superheroes with modern and silver age sensibilities.

TENJHO TENGE VOL 1
EXILES #60
ULTIMATE IRON MAN #1 (OF 6)
X-MEN AGE OF APOCALYPSE #1 (OF 6)
WARCRAFT VOL 1 GN (OF 3)

What a sad sack week. The manga saves it for me. i'm mildly interested in Ultimate Iron Man, and might just flip through it instead of buying it. Tenjho Tenge I've been waiting to read for a long time, as I've purposely avoided any scanlations on it.

Dead

well not really...yet
Tenjho Tenge I might pick up, even though I already own like up to vol. 10, just to see they job the did. CMX manga are usually very shitty quality, paper wise and design wise.

Otherwise ive forsaken all Comics and am a Trade only person now. Only comics I bother buying now are the burlyman titles.

I was too old for AoA, but I might finally check it out.

The New Mutants Asgard adventures were my favourite multi-arc crossover ever. So damn awesome.

No wait, FALL OF THE MUTANTS was the apex of my adolescent comic reading career. Nick Fury vs SHIELD would be #2.

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
I read AoA when it came out, and I have mixed feelings about this return to that timeline(which shouldn't even exist right now), mostly because the two reviews seem to indicate that most of what made that time period so different is gone now.... why bother? meh I'll glance at #1 in the store and if I like what I see I'll pick it up.

DETECTIVE COMICS #804
LEX LUTHOR MAN OF STEEL #1
EXILES #60

Maybe...but probably not:
ULTIMATE IRON MAN #1
X-MEN AGE OF APOCALYPSE #1
X-MEN AGE OF APOCALYPSE ONE SHOT

It's nice to have a light week after the last two heavy ones...

I took a breal from comics during the AoA, but didn't the AoA tiomline end when the story ended?

Kinda wierd that they're revisting the timeline. I thought it was one of the finite storries with a definite ending.

Yeah the timeline was suppose to cease to exist when that story ended. Hell we've had characters from that timeline in the regular timeline for awhile now....

Wait

Are these AoA books re-releases or new comics?
New comics, and a re-release IIRC.

I'm all over the AOA stuff. I met Joe Madueria way back before the whole AOA thing was even announced. I saw all the prelim artwork, and i really wasnt supposed to see it. nice enough guy, too bad he had no orginal style of his own and it was all ripped from other Anime projects.

I REAQLLY enjoyed the AOA universe adn will be getting this.

Age of Apocalypse, this could be very good!!! I'm planning on buying them.

So long as:
They fix the power ratio of characters... I mean in one encounter Apocalypse took down Magneto(who was left with half his power, or something like that) with like one punch(as should be.) but in their next fight magneto slowly magnetized apocalypse(who has molecular/atomic scale control over his own body and he also has the ability to increase his mass, so he should be able to fight even such an attack) during the fight and then ripped him in half, that's right trading punches face to face with someone like Apocalypse, while only having half his power(yeah, he had some sorta improvised metal junk armor, but come on!!!) and then ripping him in half(which is pure BS).

I also heard, but have not confirmed, that the Hulk supposedly lost a fight to some no-name mutant, or something like that.

PS While I read some of my AoA comics, I was missing some and I got the remaining ones over the web. Now I dunnoh if I'm missing something but it sure looks like it. For example there's mention of a battle over NY or something like that where magneto crashed Apoc's celestial ship and lost half his power... There's also mention of a battle between Apoc and the x-men.... But I've seen none of those, in the comics I've only seen these events mentioned.

My question is are these events portrayed/shown taking place(and I'm missing some comics) or are they left to the reader's imagination?

AoA was like if God touched comic books.

Also is the release a series of trade paperbacks, cause I can handle that. I cant handle all the comics again!

I see... so they're going to try and explain how the universe wasn't wiped out by the crystal?

I may just have to set foot in a comic shop again after ten years...

Did Spank get TenjOWNED?! :lol

Oh well. Oh! Great's sidling up to Namco with TT paid off and he got to make some dumb costumes for Tekken 5. Maybe he can get back to drawing pr0n now. That's what he's good at.

God, if only you knew.

If you could just see it... I mean... What they did, is so absurd that it's actually laughable. But, on the bright side, I now know not to order vol. 2 when I fill out my Previews order next week... or any other future CMX releases, for that matter.

maybe it was a blessing in disguise that I couldn't find it at the mall. I thought the AoA specials were actually pretty decent. I think Exiles actual turned out better. I'm itching to see where Tony Bedard goes with this.

You and me both, I was pleasantly surprised by both AoA books and Exiles.

God, if only you knew.

Did they hire some fuckwit hack like Josh Lesnick to retouch the art? :p

...or any other future CMX releases, for that matter.

I'm vaguely interested in the English release of Tsukasa Kotobuki's Ragnarok, but not overwhelmingly so as he switched up his art style. I much prefer his older work over this Nu-Kotobuki shit. :/

...No nudity. ANYWHERE. All exposed breasts now have bras drawn over them, even when it doesn't make any sense. Like the scene where Nagi falls through the roof of the dojo and lands on top of Aya; even though she's seen wearing nothing but a towel seconds before, she's wearing a bra in the two-page spread moments later. And Bob's girlfriend apparently likes dry humping now, as she's wearing black panties and a T-shirt as she writhes about on top of Bob making sex sounds.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. A LOT of panels throughout the manga have been cropped and re-sized in obvious ways, to remove potentially offensive material (biggest changes: Chiaki's rape scene). And DC apparently doesn't like panty shots, because they've covered them all up with sound effects and text balloons; even on the cover, Aya's panties are obscured by the title logo. The book is almost completely sanitized; even the text is squeaky-clean, while still trying to be "edgy."

What makes this even more absurd is, at the back of the book, they list the rating system for CMX manga. And guess what? IT INCLUDES A MATURE RATING! They took what could have been an "M" -rated book and scrubbed it for a "T" audience. And worst of all, perhaps as a final F.U. to readers, on the last page there's a blurb from the editor saying that Oh! Great himself approved of these "limited revisions" to make his work more accessible.

F*ckwit hack indeed. o_O

He probably got sick of going back in and redrawing all the pensises and vaginas for the old stuff Eros published.

I can't fault DC if Oh! Great gave them the f'ing green light.

It's sad that our comics market will be held back by antics like this, and that creators like Oh! Great are so desperate to sell to Western audiences that he'd just sell out like that.

If I were in that position - you would have to come to me with many virgins and a money hat to end all money hats before I'd even entertain the thought of someone censoring my work. >:|

Fortunately, I'll never be in that position.

Wait, that's not a good thing.

Dead

:lol :lol

I just saw the comparisons between the original and the DC version.

:lol :lol thats all I can say. The cropped angles, the drawn on bras, everything. oh god, this is a completely different comic.

I hope NO ONE pays for this shit.

This may require me to buy a comic book for the first time in like 10 years.
OMG

edit: Wait, is this just a re-release of AoA?
If so, Marvel just let me down. :(

Bleck. How could people ever think Liefield was a decent artist?

...Holy crap, the Elite are f*cked. After two missions, both gone completely FUBAR, the team is falling apart in a manner so tragic that it's actually laughable. And since none of you even read JL Elite, I don't have to feel bad about spoiling anything! Hurrah!

Manitou Raven: wife Dawn cheats on him with GA; nonetheless, sacrifices life to save team.

Green Arrow: guilt over affair compounded by Raven's noble death; last one to know it's all over.

Major Disaster: guilt over Raven's death leads him to commit suicide in bathtub.

Flash: pulls everyone's fat outta the fryer; has to bring in JLA pals to clean up mess Elite made.

Menagerie: whereabouts unknown.

Kasumi: revealed as Batgirl, JLA's insider; trust in Coldcast shattered after saving his life.

Coldcast: arrested by Al-Sheikh and JLA for cold-blooded murder of Changsha's president.

Vera Black: mind/body taken over by Manchester Black; conspiring with Eve to destroy Superman.

Biggest disaster of a super-team ever, maybe? :lol
