How long could the X-Force mission hold before it turned into a farce? Nobody would have any villains left to fight because X-Force killed them all.

Comic-Gaf. Give me your top run of all time. Ever. Only pick one.

This is really out of left-field but I think my favorite run (I'm considering this to mean characters or team and not cross-over events) is Incredible Hercules. I just love the art, the characters, the story-lines. The tone shifts are really great. And it introduced the world to this:

Just read the tropes that appear and tell me it isn't amazing:

TvTropes Incredible Hercules

Favorite run is iffy, most books live long enough to see themselves become the villain ( i've been watching Dark Knight too much trying to test out tvs with a good blu ray).

I'll go with Immortal Iron Fist.

runner-up: Hickman's FF/Fantastic Four saga.

As a huge fan of Richard Rider and the Nova Corps, and someone who hasn't seen aforementioned godawful spider-man cartoon, I'm still optimistic. He's getting an ongoing with NOW, right?

I doubt it'll last six issues given who's writing it and the fact that it's not Nova Prime.

*sigh* If only Darkhawk could come back again through Marvel Now. Him coming back during war of kings is what got me back into comics in the first place

It does have my favorite panel of all time, Matt sitting in interrogation with the diner coffee on the table in front of him.

Just...I don't even...

Oh god, i love that panel. Cant remember which issue that is. It also has my favorite 2 pg spread in the issue where DD/Spidey/IF/Cage decide to lay waste to the Chinese Mafia.

New X-Men, of course. Comics has never topped it.

Except with old X-Men. Morrison's run was plagued by crappy fill-in artists and Morrison being Morrison.

My favorite runs:

John Arcudi/Doug Mahnke: Major Bummer
Peter David's Hulk
Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's Punisher and Preacher
Alan Moore's Swamp Thing
Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's Amazing Spider-Man

The best writer in comics dropping his best work? Yes indeed!

There was one bad fill in, the issue about Quentin's haircut. Other than that, Everybody Wins.

That run was potholed by a procession of awful fill-in artists. Some of the art in there looks like it was penciled with Igor Kordey's elbow. And Morrison had a hand in the worst character portrayal of Magneto ever. There is no way, no how, that Magneto would use drugs.

I'm a fan Grant Morrison's work and loved to interview him when it was my job to do so. But his work on X-Men was not his best.

Claremont's first run on X-Men is vastly superior to Morrison's. He had great artists from Cockrum to Byrne to Sienkiewicz to Romita Jr., etc., and some of the most awesome storylines ever.

OG black suit all the way. It's menacing and somehow sleeker than the red and blue... definitely my favorite.

On an unrelated note, I have never seen a comic book character that has more sole time than Spider-Man. That dude is always showing off the bottom of his feet!

Great Darkness Saga - Legion of Super-Heroes

It has HUGE ideas and concepts, it has small subtle character moments, it has long lasting ramifications, and it has fantastic art throughout.

It's comics perfection.

I'm in for Manhunter and Star girl, but I don't know about the rest of the team... Still, Johns has an unnatural talent to make unusual characters interesting so we'll have to see.

Still, I don't know why they had to kill JLI for this. That cast was fun. Or I just love Booster that much. One of the two. I imagine the rumors of JLs = Trinity War is the reason for the JLI demise. They only want 3 leagues.

So I'm new to comics and have been reading the following lately, I'm more interested in DC but that's mainly because the characters are more familiar to me. I've only really read standalone stuff and I kinda prefer that format. Looking for more recommendations.

Here's what I've read so far.

Loved

Superman Red Son
Kingdom Come (My god that artwork)

Didn't mind

Birthright (wasn't a huge fan of the art style nor the reliance on robots as a foil)

Meh
Killing Joke (felt really dated)

Currently reading The Long Halloween, it's feeling a bit dated art wise but story wise I can see a lot of The Dark Knight in it.

Abnett and Lannings Guardians or the Galaxy, Legion of Superheroes, and Nova was fantastic.

Peter David on Hulk was pretty good too.

Also Planetary, and Fear Agent should get more acclaim.

Does anyone read IDW G1 transformer series? Its been damn good since Hail Megatron.

Comic-Gaf. Give me your top run of all time. Ever. Only pick one.

I think it's far too hard to narrow down to one run. As mentioned Claremont's run on X-men is amazing. Though I'll probably be one of the few to say it but the early - mid 90s run on Superman was also awesome. I really love John Byrne's Man of Steel run as well. Palmiotti and Conner's run on Power Girl was pure fun. Snyder's Gates of Gotham and his run on Batman now are fantastic.

If you asked me to pick one per character, I could totally do that, but one out of all comics I just can't narrow it down.

Its a new one, but i think Waid Daredevil is just as good as Bendis/Maleev in a different (more approachable way imo) and this is from Bendis/Maleev Daredevil getting me into comics in the first place.

Miller was great in his day. Just a shame he literally (yes, literally) lost his mind over the past 10-15 years.

Frank Miller Wiki said:
In November 2011, Miller posted incendiary remarks pertaining to the Occupy Wall Street movement in his personal blog. Among other things, Miller referred to the Occupy protestors as "pond scum" and "rapists" who were ignorant of "Islamicism"
