Anyone read Aquaman? I was thinking of looking into the series, kind of an impulse thing since he's so badass in Injustice.

Aquaman is legit. First arc plays up "Aquaman is lame" a bit to counter it, but even that fades away to him just being awesome. Also nice to have a married couple who are interesting.

Morning Glories half off comixology sale....just buy it so you can see what we/people complain/love about it. I am not caught up completely, but initially i loved the book until Spencer got well ahead of himself as to where he was leading the reader, but i've never disliked it.

Don't worry, even after you do get caught up, you still won't know anymore than you did after the first five issues. I like most everything about the book, but fuck this slower-than-molasses story progression.

My list for this week:

Avengers #10
Fantastic Four #7
FF #6
Manhattan Projects #11
The Unwritten #48

Still sticking with Fantastic Four to see where it goes, although this one might be the last. Would be picking up BPRD but haven't really kept up in a long while, I have the first four or five Hellboy trades I think and need to catch up. And Black Beetle is awesome. The art is gorgeous.

ordered a bunch of used books from gohastings, 5 for $25 sale now

Star Wars Legacy vol 11 - finishing my set and now i'll go back and read 5-11
Judge Dredd Case Files vol 3 tp - will be my first dredd book, i hear vol 2 was the best though
Action Comics vol 1 new 52 HC - might sell it, might keep it and sell my singles, i liked the first arc and i have 0 - 18 as digital issues
Hack/Slash omnibus vol 2
Fear Itself tpb - i wanted to reread this to see if my hatred remains, it's a $5 art book.

I ended up a little iffy on Journey into Mystery 9 issues into it on MU, still liked it but i'm glad i didn't jump into to buying all the trades.

Hey guys. This isn't exactly related to any specific comic, but last night I was bored and decided to sketch out a good portion of Batman's enemies. I didn't really use any specific version, didn't really look at any reference pictures, and basically went off of how I remember them. Drawing Ivy was the first time I've drawn a female in probably years. They are definitely not my strong suit at all. How do you guys like them?

FF #6
Flash #19
Manhattan Projects #11
Transformers More Than Meets Eye #16
Wolverine and X-Men #28
Young Avengers (NOW) #4

My list for the week.

Caught up on most of the big two books from the last few months. Enjoying the Young Avengers setup, and I even enjoyed the last few issues of Wolverine and the X-men. That's got a stay of execution for now. Daredevil caught up with issue 25, and whilst I enjoyed it I didn't have quite the same reactions as some of you guys. Certainly no jaws were dropped. I didn't read any of the spoilers but I guess my expectations were set really high from all the buzz in here. Didn't quite meet them.

Dial H is still awesome. JLD is dropped in favour of trade-waiting. Just not enough good stuff happening each issue to keep me pulling it. Didn't like the conclusion of the latest arc. Animal man as well. Dropped so I'll trade wait. Probably should have done it long ago but I still enjoyed the issues leading up to the main Rotworld crossover. Down to Dial H, Legion and Flash for the time being from DC. I'm going to try out Movement and Green Team. Hopefully Simone can recapture some of the Secret Six magic. I'm trying out Larfleeze as well, hoping for some Giffen/DeMatteis magic.

Now to start working my way through the stuff from other publishers...

So it seems like the old-school noir is having a resurgence.

I really like the pulpy, crime type stuff and it looks like Black Beetle would be a good one to pick up.

I read most of the Sin City arcs and enjoyed them. I don't care how violent or profane they are as long as the story is interesting.

Any other suggestions along those lines? Is The Shadow any good? Should I just hit up the Garth Ennis wiki and start going from there?

Brubaker and Phillips' body of work - Criminal in particular which has 6 paperback collections or 2 deluxe hardcovers. All of them are great and two of them in particular are brilliant.

Darwyn Cooke's adaptations of Richard Stark's Parker novels (The Hunter, The Outfit, and The Score are out right now) are great crime comics too.

That sounds like what I'm looking for, thank you for the suggestion!

I can hear the ka-ching already as I'm now playing the six degrees game from their comic vine pages. Thank you for the suggestions!

From the AMA with Remender:

"I don't think Marvel plans on doing an Uncanny X-Force omnibus anytime soon. I could be wrong but I haven't heard anything. I hope one day they do one, it would be amazing to have it collected in one big book."

Boo.

Uncanny X-force Omnibus has to happen....i'd believe the "not anytime soon " though considering the second volume of Hickman Fantastic Four is probably not until late 2014 if that.

Real quick I wanted to say how goddamn good Hush was. I just finished it and good lord, I've had the identity spoiled for me before, but it was still amazing. I enjoyed all of it.

Now onto Hush Beyond.

How does Hush even get recommended to people :(

I blame reddit.
It's "A Beginner's Introduction to Batman WITH ARTWORK BY 90s X-MEN SUPERSTAR ARTIST JIM LEE YYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEAHHH!!!" so people tend to give it a pass.

...

Hell, I gave it a pass for that reason, and have recommended it as such. :|

EDIT: See?

Woah what? I got the recommend from a friend at my local shop, and perhaps its that I;ve never followed batman, but it seems like a damn good story. Is it just the fact that his friend came out of nowhere? And I'm not mad or anything, I'm just honestly curious why you don't like it.

However I am morally offended that you'd even suggest I visit that cesspool. I have no kind words for that site.

EDIT: I'm reading up on Jeph on TvTropes, and while yeah, some of that stuff is bad, I'm not reading it because he wrote it. Nor is that the reason I enjoyed it. I liked the variety of villains and the Batman/Catwoman side of things, I thought it was really well done.

Should I feel bad for enjoying it simply because he wrote it?

This just came out in March. I haven't gotten it yet, so I can't say if it's good or not but it definitely fits the bill:

Also, Satellite Sam #1 comes out in July. Murder mystery set in the 1950's:

Hush becomes retroactively less good once you read more Batman comics. What it's doing is too derivative of past comics - "Batman's Greatest Hits" - to make it a genuinely good comic, I think. I have similar feelings to Daredevil: End of Days right now.

Ah, okay. This makes a whole lot more sense. I can imagine so, but I guess I'll just have to keep reading to find out. My next buy was going to either be The Killing Joke, The Long Halloween,
or both because I have no self control.
Any other recommendations?

AMAZING art. Lee's Gotham City spreads got me back into the DC Universe along with Green Lantern: Rebirth.

You're right, I didn't give Lee enough credit. The art is amazing in Hush. I can't wait to see that 4 page spread he's doing in Superman Unchained. It'll probably be godlike.

Dark Knight Returns is one of the primary influences on Hush, especially the Superman fight which is where Loeb steals it from.

Ra's al Ghul (and shirtless swordfighting) comes from the Denny O'Neil/Neal Adams comics.

Alright, I'll check those out. I've heard Year One more than enough times to convince me, and I remember reading Year 100, which I thought was rad. Thank you guys for the suggestions.

Are there any collections specifically focusing on the Joker besides the one shots like TKJ?

That, and the unbearably saccharine ending, induced some serious eye-rolling. I liked what he did with Tommy's backstory, though.

God... I don't remember anything about Paul Dini's run except the part where Hush literally stole Catwoman's heart.

ughhhhhhhhhhh

So... Is this one to skip or what. I've seen the Catwoman/No heart thing a few times already, so if that's spoiled is there a need to read it?

It's interesting enough, Dini does a good job with Hush's backstory so even if you know the twist it's worth a read.

The Kevin Smith podcast with Loeb is interesting, although not much of it is actually about Batman. During the writer's strike, he paid his assistant to catalog his comic collection because the insurance company said they would no longer insure it until he got that done.

I'd say read it, especially if you liked the character Hush and want to know more about his past. It's really the only other story featuring him worth mention. Just know that there are some over-the-top moments that are played with complete seriousness, on par with events in the book you just read.

If you like
BatCat
I'd say read it.
That too.

I don't, btw. Soooooo over that pairing.
