And done with Civil War. First things first, I didn't like it (sorry Gameprof lol), it ranged from a boring ass event for the most part to a mediocre one near the end. The idea is actually interesting, but ultimately a foolish one. This is a world that gets invaded by gods or aliens or demons or interdimentional entities all the time and now you are worried about regulating heroes because some wackjob blew up a town...OK. I actually think it can work better in the MCU since things haven't gotten THAT crazy yet with the constant otherworldly threats, it's still grounded jn reality for the most part where this kind of registration would make sense.
The big story beats also didn't work in my opinion, or at least fell flat. Spidey coming out is the most interesting one and it actually has me interested in reading more Spidey from this era, but the war itself was just boring with nothing really happening. Goliath died and I went "who?". Cap dies and I go "ok see you in 6 months Steve". Maybe I'm just old and jaded but comic book deaths are completely meaningless until they make one stick, at least for many years (like Jean and even there they have found many ways to have her around in one for or another).
So in the end Tony is a gigantic prick and wins (lol), Reed continues to be a dick but I knew that already, Cap is shat on and I don't see how he could ever work with Tony again. For such a historic event it sure feels like a whole lot of nothing and unlike other events, as far as I know most of the stuff has been retconned so it sure isn't even matter in the long run. Oh and before people say "I told you so mweh!", I'm sure isn't till glad I read it just like I'll be glad when I read Age of Ultron or house of M (wait that one is supposed to be good lol), I want to read these big things I missed in my years and way, good or bad.
Now, for the reason I like to read every tie in, discovering new books! Let's have a quick glance:
Spider-Man - Cool costume aside the actual CW stuff didn't do much for me, but the stuff with kingpin putting a hit on parker and his family did and I actually added the next issue to my list when may is shot and Peter goes back to the black costume.
Fantastic Four - pointless and a waste of time
She Hulk - pointless and a waste of time. Also didn't make me want to read this run which is sad because I love she hulk
Wolverine - this one was good with wolverine going after nitro, getting mixed up with atlanteans and ultimately discovering that the whole thing is about money. Great Humberto Ramos art too, I know you guys hate him
Frontline - one of my favorite things about the event (even if the MySpace shit in the last issue was cringe worthy), both the reporters story and speedball in prison and eventual change to Penance was great.
Thunderbolts - the actual CW issues weren't very good but it all leads to Ellis's run which I'm super excited to read
X-Factor - a couple of pointless issues that actually blemish the amazing run that book was having. It needs to stay away from events
New Avengers - boring stuff except it made me want to read more about the sentry so there's that
X-Men - they barely get involved and in the specials they do its shit. Awful. And Bishop is horrible around this time, and i used to live bishop :/
Cable & Deadpool - cool stuff that makes me want to read that run, even if it sounds like they retconned Cable's powers like there was no tomorrow
Young Avengers & Runaways - one of my favorite minis of the event, cool story, amazing faux-Joe mad art and it made me want to check out both teams books bad so a success
Ms.Marvel - like she hulk pointless and makes me not want to read this run and it love Carol. Also she's all "sir yes sir" to Tony which seems weird from what we know of her as Captain Marvel
Heroes for Hire - holy fan service Batman. This book is nothing but ass shots and chicks in tight outfits. awful writing and a pointless tie in makes this something I'll probably not continue, unless its for the fanservice I guess
Punisher War Journal - this on the other hand is fantastic and I'm dying to read more.
Captain America - I actually really liked these issues even if it's all just filler. Good stuff with Sharon, great writing, is this from the famous brubaker run you all keep suggesting?
Ironman - I usually dont care about Ironman and even less so here.
Black Panther - good stuff, Ororo actually fits in better than I thought she would, Panther is a badass as usual and i want to read more from this.
Mighty Avengers - ok start and I'm curious about where it goes especially with the Ultron cliffhanger
Fallen Son - even if I'm jaded with Cap's death I still enjoyed this mini about various heroes dealing with it. except the ironman one because fuck Tony
Avengers Initiative - loved this and I want to read more bad.
So there you go, as usual the best part of the whole thing was discovering new books. Will take another break from events for a while, and maybe tackle me some Daredevil (which I was loving up to issue 5) to get in the mood for the show
