Comic sales are in a bit of a slump, yes. However, if books that do their own thing, like Batman or Superior Spider-man are beating (or coming close to) your line wide crossover in sales, why not focus on doing more in-title "events" like those books are doing? Marvel is perhaps even more guilty of this, but if events are not selling significantly better than standalones, why insist on ruining the narrative consistency of half your line for 6 months of the year? I don't even see much of a boost for the tie-ins like we got back in the mid-late 2000s.

Man, I read through Hawkeye #17 and Uncanny X-men #18 last night, and that was weird. Saw a lot of people WTFing at Hawkguy before and had seen a little of the inside before, and so I went in not expecting much. And yet, I was surprisingly chill with it when I sat down and read it. It maybe went a little too juvenile in its humor here and there, but it was a kind of neat semi-recap messed up little oddity. Pretty much the only "bad" thing I have to say towards it is that it didn't advance much of anything, but I don't really mind. I actually kind of liked it.
On the other hand, what the hell happened with Uncanny X-men? The art was absolutely hideous, at least to me. Like, it was technically really detailed at a lot of parts, but it just looked... yuck. And a ton of the faces that weren't close-ups were just atrocious. And then the plot was just awkwardly attempting to back track and fill in ties to another title? Bleh. It didn't even read well, with stuff like Emma Frost acting... weird. I really want to like this series, what with its fresh new group that I kind of like, but it just feels like its had so many misfires and just... nothing has even really happened in it.

This hardly ever happens with me and comics but I really want to know what happened to her in #17, that was a really well dangled plot thread. I really like UXM actually, my fave bunch of new mutants I've read since New X-Men. I like how they're just confused kids. The vibe reminds me a lot of the first class movie.

I have the complete opposite opinion from you! I found the layout to be really well done what with the X shape and cyclops messed up beam motif. Marco Rudy is at his best doing trippy comics. You might remember him as the guy who filled in for J.G Jones in Final Crisis. Then he did a few issues of Final Crisis: Escape at DC which fit his forte well. Very recently, he did the entire 5 issue run of Marvel Knights Spiderman. Check out the art there, he is showing his A game.
Although I must agree you on about the faces. Don't know what went wrong with him in this issue but he nailed it in MK:S.

Origin Story: I got "back in" to comics thanks to Saga & Hawkguy and my physical pull list is extremely Image heavy at the LCS. I also have a Comixology problem and I'm filling in decades of missed Marvel stuff via Unlimited. The new Unlimited app is pretty darn good and that certainly helps.

- For Batman, Zero Year is absolutely phenomenal: Start at issue #21, skip #28
- For Batman and Robin, there is an overall arc to the entire run, and it'd be a shame if you missed out on the emotional build-up of it all, so I'd say start at 1. It gets better and better as each issue progresses.
- For Green Arrow: start at issue #17 (technically, GA has a new arc coming up, but if you missed this current introductory arc to a legendary run, jesus, man. You're gonna be missing out on spectacular comics)

Where do you get that impression? #1-3 seem pretty self-contained so far, going by the solicits. I assume they'll be some Original Sin tie-in issue, but no more than usual

I have actually been reading TMNT because the artist is dope. The furry stuff still weirds the shit out of me. The problem is that crazy furry dog porn got into my brain and forever ruined cutesy anthropomorphic animals forever, especially when they're human sized and interacting with humans. Or other species. And I find it especially disconcerting when the animals have human like pectoral and abdominal muscles.
But yeah that art is great. I love his line work.
