I have actually been reading TMNT because the artist is dope. The furry stuff still weirds the shit out of me. The problem is that crazy furry dog porn got into my brain and forever ruined cutesy anthropomorphic animals forever, especially when they're human sized and interacting with humans. Or other species. And I find it especially disconcerting when the animals have human like pectoral and abdominal muscles.

But yeah that art is great. I love his line work.

My store couldn't get this month's issue so I don't get to read it. Fucking sucks.

Hey new 52 animal man is great too. I'd double dip but I got the animal man omnibus already

The first six issues with Travel Foreman on art were some of the best books published in the N52. After Pugh came on the book it stayed consistently good until RotWorld, which was basically a crime against humanity. It's been better since, especially the second annual with Foreman back, but it never reached the lofty heights of that initial arc again. It's a damn shame Foreman chose to leave the book (his mother had recently passed and the grim imagery of the book was too much for him), because it really could have been something special.

Just finished the latest Batman/Two-Face story arc.

Pretty good. Not a fan of re-doing origins, but it was an entertaining story.

The origin was all kinds of fucked up and the ending was something else. Loved that arc.

Edit: I got the Battle of the Atom hc today and I read the first two issues and I am sitting here grinning from ear to ear with just how stupid the whole thing is. It's just redicilous and it's exactly what I wanted from it. I just love that they just threw Deadpool in there just for the fun of it. Oh and young Iceman is adorable.

I know some of you really dislike the current X books but I am really happy with this book.

The art is phenomenal at all times in all new X-Men.

Fuse #1 was awesome. Everything that Johnston says about the series in the column at the end of the issue ticks all the right boxes. Lived-in scifi setting, crime/detective stories, murder mystery. Yes please. Look forward to issue 2.

Saga #20 Solicit: Something terrible happens.

No shit this is Saga. Its like waiting for something awful to happen each issue.

Not posting the SAGA cover as it might be considered a bit of a spoiler for the end of the last arc.

Oh and this Sex Criminals cover is lovely :

Tim, I feel like you and I have this exact same post/speech saved and ready whenever somebody mentions new 52 Animal Man. It's too true, and it sucks that such an initally awesome story eroded so much and so quickly. Gotta say, I'm ready for that last Foreman issue. i really love his work but nobody can blame him for bailing from Animal Man when family and the macabre are front and center.

I had the impression DC was largely getting a bit tired of Gail and mostly kept her around to avoid backlash like they did when she was totally not removed from Batgirl awhile back.

Kipp

but I am taking tiny steps forward
Well hey! That first Lemire Green Arrow TPB is finally out. I think I'll pick it up on IST when I order Fear Agent next week and see what all this hype is about.

Wait, actually, how self-contained are the arcs? If there's a pretty prominent story that goes through the whole thing, I'd probably rather wait until the run is over to read it. There are so many great things I still haven't read that it doesn't make much sense to start reading comics that are still ongoing.

Finished New Teen Titans: Games OGN, pretty good and i did love the art by Perez, but the story didn't improve as much as i hoped halfway through. No regrets spending my time reading it, but it's still a DC book.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
We're going to get trolled and DC will release a Batman Inc vol 2 deluxe volume with those pages too. In 3 years. I'm going to try to put some money aside to get the Absolute Edition i think...

There isn't even any question. Of course DC will followup with less expensive versions with the same content. They've been doing that a lot with the Absolutes.

I'm going to like something real soon and y'all are going to know about it. The odds are stacked against me right now since in trying to clear through my trades backlog, i'm starting with all the books i might not like so i can get rid of them instead of putting them back on the shelf.

Got through:
Ultimate Comics Cap mini
Ultimate Comics Thor mini
New Teen Titans: Games OGN
Avengers Red Zone by Johns

All were decent, ultimate comics ones the worst of the bunch.

Trying to understand what is happening with Superior Foes of Spider-Man, it's in some kind of limbo at the moment and a creative change for a fill in issue apparently.

Tom Brevoort said:
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

First off, your information is incorrect. There aren’t 5 issues remaining of SUPERIOR FOES OF SPIDER-MAN.

But we hear time and time again from fans complaining that the books are taking too long to come out, and that we shouldn’t wait for the creators and so forth—that you want it now more than you want it by those guys. Not every reader, mind you, but plenty of them.

So in this instance the editor had a fill-in issue done. As has been proselytized for by the fans, at least some of them.

It’s hardly disrespectful to the readers. if anything, it’s an attempt to be the opposite.

The cover price is the cover price, it costs what it costs, especially at the numbers it’s circulating at. If you want those remaining 5 issues and beyond, that’s the trade-off. Again, not disrespectful, simply the cost of doing business.
So basically if a 3.99 book can keep the same sales numbers it has a better chance of staving cancellation.

Oh ok

Oh ok

Did they mean to say issue 10 comes out tomorrow? Cause it said 11 a few times and I'm a bit confused on whether or not this is another Hawkeye situation.

As long as the book stays quality I'll be happy to spend 3.99 each issue. This has been one of my favorite books in years and I really love it.

edit:nevermind lol, missed the tweet

I was also confused by the numbering from the article and everything else. I think Spencer straightened it out...

I went over the DC release schedule for their trades and HCs from a few pages back and was wondering why doesn't DC get on releasing more vertigo deluxe HCs, I want some deluxe Transmetropolitan. Or maybe rerelease a new printing for things like American Vampire, Ex Machina and Preacher. Why DC WHY?

Hell yeah, it gets weirder and stupider and brillianter before the end
and then the ending kinda sucks :(

4 new series:-

Gillen and Mckelvie's (with Matt Wilson) next collaboration debuts:
thewickedthedivine-1-B-0eb18.jpg
thewickedthedivine-1-A-95315.jpg

Every ninety years, twelve gods incarnate as humans. They are loved. They are hated. In two years, they are dead. The team behind critically thermonuclear floor-fillers Young Avengers and PHONOGRAM reunite to start a new ongoing superhero fantasy with a beautiful oversized issue. Welcome to THE WICKED + THE DIVINE, where gods are the ultimate pop stars. But remember: just because you're immortal, doesn't mean you're going to live forever.

outcast-1-46464.jpg

Kyle Barnes has been plagued by demonic possession all his life and now he needs answers. Unfortunately, what he uncovers along the way could bring about the end of life on Earth as we know it. It begins here -- with this terrifying DOUBLE-SIZED FIRST ISSUE featuring forty- four pages of story with no ads for the regular price of just $2.99!

superannuatedman-01-612dd.jpg

FROM THE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED CREATOR OF MINIATURE JESUS. By the time most people realized it, they were no longer in charge of the world we know. In an unspecified future, the small seaside town of Blackwater has now been taken over by advanced and mutated animals. Most of the humans that lived there are now either dead or gone, but one old-man remains, scavenging off the scraps and refuse of humanity's past, and doggedly defying the new tenants.

wildfire-01-0a06f.jpg

Is genetically modified food an end to world hunger or a first class ticket to the apocalypse? Dan Miller is a plant biologist working with a small team perfecting an accelerated plant growth process. When things go wrong, Los Angeles pays the price in a disaster story unlike any before.

Not a fan of Kirkman but I can't pass up Azaceta on art. Plus two issues for the price of one? Sold. I'll try Wildfire, am always up for post apocalyptic. No to Superannuated.

Batgirl #29:
Andrew Bennett
's shirtless entrance. Lolwut.

Nightwing #29: Holy shhh---t. This issue was absolutely incredible. The art and colors, the layout and spread during the flashback sequences was masterful. Contrast to this the bright colors of the present day and I had to check to make sure it wasn't two different artists. Bravo.

Oh hey, DC finally acknowledged in book that
Pandora created the N52verse and is not from it
.
Only about two years too late for the majority of people to care!

Was anyone going to ever actually care? If you didn't read Flashpoint then that revelation would make even less sense than the simple explanation that Flash's time travel shenanigans caused it.

Probably not, but you can tell they initially had big plans for the character that fell by the wayside. Oh well.

Tim pls.. that was a terrible way to use a spoiler. The spoiler tag should have started from created.

i'm glad, that character is boring as Sin (lololololol). DC are making their cosmology really over complex with all the biblical crap and pandora (which was greek, right?). It would be interesting if they treated the world like the christian god was objectively real (they've done it with the greeks already) but they kinda skim over it a lot. If God was real there would be some amazing stories in there to come out of it.

They had a lot of plans for alot of things that never panned out. Remember when Daemonites were going to be a thing? Helspont fighting Superman, Voodoo and the Infiltration. Not even a peep out of that after the first year and it wasn't even resolved in the slightest.
And I actually liked it too.

Now that you mention it, what exactly happened to the Daemonite plans? I was so sure they were hyping up an invasion or an event of sorts with it but it seems like they just disappeared into thin air after Grifter and Voodoo were cancelled.

Edit: Son of a.... I mentioned the same exact thing as GH and my post comes off as if I read it before posting even though I was replying to Jadeye :-o

The low sales didn't justify continuing it. The whole Wildcats line tanked hard.

You should read Didio's next book if you're looking for some new "major" stuff that will end up being nothing.

Actually they very much do have a real Judeo Christian God. The Phantom Stranger has traversed to Heaven a couple times and God often appears to him in the physical form of a dog. The Spectre still serves God and there is a N52 version of Zauriel who has been in the Forever Evil Blight story.
I think the bigger problem is there's no sense of hierarchy of all the random deities and demons that populate the DCU. You have old gods, New Gods, God, angels, heaven, hell, and demons but no sense of how they all fit together. But again, oh well, it's just funny books.

Hierarchy's that include various different pantheons both real and imagined always seem like such bullshit to me. I mean, how do you include the Judeo Christian God in the same world as Hindu God's as you do New God's. The mythologies of some of these don't work in the presence of others.

Marvel's cosmology is such bullshit too.

I feel you just have to separate them out and view them individually.

That's sad. Although I wish there could have been a resolution to it in one of the main books or heck, have JL whack the Daemonites off to oblivion.

:-(

Even Keith Giffen can't save Didio writing.

I liked it. I really loved the idea of Voodoo, loved the gorgeous, sexy art (Sami Basri pls), but people just dropped off hard after Ron Marz was removed from the title. Talked to him about it at ECCC. He seemed bummed that he didn't get a chance to continue playing out the gray area Voodoo inhabited.

It worked ok in Supernatural. At least better than in the DC universe.
