If you guys want Manara porn comics Dark Horse put out 3 expensive volumes under the Manara: Erotica heading. I dunno why you'd get Borgias for that (not that there isn't....that, but y'know)

woooooooooow

that post was 4 days ago what the heck

Just finished Sin City: That Yellow Bastard and... boy, that story really dragged on. It could've been a good 100 pages shorter. It told a decent story, but it just went on and on when it really didn't need to.
With that said, Miller's art was really great as always.

Oh man, really? That story's like, what, 200 pages? Personally That Yellow Bastard is my favourite of the Sin Citys. Like 3 #classic moments between the panels with Haritigan in prison (the besst), Hartigan meeting Nancy again (of course she's a stripper! It's fuckin Sin City!) and the part at the end where he "dies" (and it says THE END) which is an all time great sequence

"An old man dies so a young woman lives. Fair Trade" is legit

Invincible #115 was a bit whacky/anime fight-ish and i didn't like it much, very simplistic but had a good ending. In the back of the book Kirkman said Invincible is going to go the Saga route of solicited story arcs with breaks in between. Random 5/10.

i chose to read this issue over Multiversity The Just and Pax because it's late and my brain doesn't want Morrison.

For you bi/multilingual folks here. What are some good non-English comics/graphic novels that you'd love to see get a translation for us...English speakers?

That's my question for the night.

but I am taking tiny steps forward
First read sandman. He did some collaborations with Gaiman that were pretty good. Look into mr punch. It's a pretty twisted tale. Also I think I'm getting this bad boy just to have quick access to his amazing covers.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions!
Also, if/when you get that, I'd like to see some pictures of it! I did some googling but couldn't find any picture or video reviews of it.

Whelp orders are out. Gonna have to cut back on other things for a while to mitigate the damage...

Strangers in Paradise Omni

You have great taste. I also just picked up Casanova, Saga HC, and have been considering the Strangers in Paradise Omni. You'll have to let us know what you think.

It makes me happy that more people are checking out Strangers in Paradise. Even though I haven't actually read it (well, I read the first issue and I absolutely LOVED it), I just know it's one of those books that way more people need to know about and read.

Which part about Hartigan in prison? I can't remember being particular interested in the prison stuff (besides
the parole hearing part where he puts aside his pride and falsely admits guilt to Roark's face
. That was a pretty powerful scene).
The other stuff you mentioned were the definite highlights though. I really enjoyed those parts.
That Nancy being a stripper reveal was pretty great. Obviously we knew about Nancy from the previous stories, but like you said, when you realize that Nancy is THE stripper, you're like "OF COURSE. How did I not realize that sooner?"
But yeah, those other two highlights, the "death" scene as well as that quote were both awesome.

The story undoubtedly had a lot of really excellent highlights, but like I said, I just felt it dragged on for too long. Like, if it would've kept all those great parts but just taken out some of the long-winded parts (off the top of my head, Senator Roark's monologue went on for ages, the prison stuff could've been a bit shorter... really nearly every scene seemed to overstay its welcome just a little bit. Repeating the same lines or reiterating the same dialogue. I know that's the noir thing to do, but it went a little overboard.)

All in all, I totally agree that it had a good amount of really excellent moments, but I can't help but think how much better it would've been if it had been more compact, with less filler in between those really great highlights.

Oh, and I just remembered, another highlight for me was the frequent use of multiple two-page spreads all in a row (just a simple piece of art, not anything too detailed, usually with no text at all). I really dug that. And same with the multiple full-page panels in a row, but Miller had already been doing that throughout the series so that's not necessarily specific to That Yellow Bastard (it makes for some great pacing and makes moments much more impactful). Especially since Big Damn Sin City is in that giant Library Edition format, those one and two page spreads have such a big impact. I love it.

Kipp, my Birthday is January 5th and I asked for the Doom Patrol Omnibus. My body is ready.

Awesome! You're going to absolutely love it.

Yeah I have been eyeing it for awhile having read Echo and first 3 trades of Rachel Rising (also I may or may not have read Spider-man loves Mary Jane) so a look at his magnum opus has always kind of been there lingering at the periphery.

For you bi/multilingual folks here. What are some good non-English comics/graphic novels that you'd love to see get a translation for us...English speakers?

That's my question for the night.

I have a ton of manga I feel deserve an English version (Urusei Yatsura and Ushio & Tora immediately come to mind), but that's probably not what you're looking for...

(I actually am legitimately kind of curious about this myself though. My knowledge of non-American/Japanese comics is pretty much just Tintin and that the various Ducks are pretty popular in Europe).

Funny, I was just thinking earlier about how I wish I could read my Greek version of Hiketeia.

Honestly, I would love more euro comics to be translated. The Chilean comics scene is popping off right now so it would be cool if some of that work was more visible here.

I wish there was a straight Western comic coming out right now. Was watching Once Upon a Time in the West earlier and wishing I could read a highly stylized comic that didn't also touch upon sci-fi or supernatural. Anyone got suggestions, I might just start ordering some Jonah Hex volumes.

Read pre 52 Jonah Hex. It's amazing stuff

I've been fascinated my European comics. When I was in college, my friend had a copy of Metal Hurlant and that's where that fascination began. The sci-fi and fantasy stuff was wild and awesome looking to me.

For non fantasy stuff, I've read Persepolis 1&2 by Marjane Satrapi which are two of my favourite books.

-FUCKING MARVILLE YO, MARVILLE

i hope it gets ruined in the most ridiculous ways.

You know what this is about? The show. It has to be. Gotta build that hype to sell the merch. I'm not happy.

I don't know. Death 2nd Ed. was delayed, too. She should be out next month. And the Bombshell Zatanna was supposed to be out this week, but she got pushed to December 10th.

I wonder if it has something to due with the west coast dock strike.

Super late to the party, but God Hates Astronauts #1 was actually good. I thought that was gonna be some corny trash but I was wrong.

I read Kill Your Boyfriend by Morrison/Bond earlier tonight and it was pretty punk. Birdie may be right about Philip Bond (as in, he's great)

Yeah thinking about it, sometimes it feels like Justin Gray/Jimmy Palmiotti are the only dudes doing western comics. Might even jump on their latest Kickstarter, but even that is still genre mixing.
Yea it's not a wildly done setting unless they throw in a supernatural angle to it. But I loved that the pre 52 Gray/Palmiotti series continued so long. Great stand alone gut punching, no mercy western issues every month. And if you can only afford one issue, then issue 50 with Darwyn Cooke was the best.

I too read it today. Pretty wild read.
Milligan and Fegredo's Girl was supposed to be collected alongside KYB at one point, and it's such a perfect refutation of that comic. Comixology put it up recently but it's kiinda pricey at 2 bux a pop.

Yeah, straight westerns died in North America in general a long time ago. Though I can think of like 3 sci-fi/western things coming out right now and a weird meta-ish western called Ichabod Azrael in 2000 ad. Azzarello wrote one called Loveless a while back that I remember reading some of but I couldn't tell you what it was about.

It's a dying genre brahs. ;_;

I'll be sure to check out the suggestions, I think I've definitely seen Loveless at the stores.

Man, what is up with Edmondson's books courting all the real-life attention? First Anderson Cooper, now blowing up the Not-Fantastic Four cast (don't have any problem with that, though it should have been a Simon Kinberg look-a-like instead). I don't think this is going to inspire any sales or anything unfortunately.

Had a great book week, I wasn't really feeling Battle-Beast vs. Thragg for a whole issue of Invincible, but as sillymonkey said, that last page was a great twist, well-played Kirkman.

I have the first two volumes of Loveless (got them for like $1 or $2 used on a GoHastings sale) and I read the very first issue and it was literally the worst comic I've read in my whole life. I haven't read any more than that since.

With that said, the Jonah Hex: Shadow's West TPB that came out fairly recently is a pretty good read. I can't 100% recommend it, but if you're looking to read Jonah Hex, it's pretty good. I can say that it doesn't really scratch the Western itch though. I tried to scratch the same itch with Jonah Hex: Shadow's West and it didn't get itched much.

Fuck Marville

Speaking of IST. I got home today and found this

IST sent me a Santa sack. Lol.

I had heard about the quality of their packaging but I wasn't prepared for it. Wonderfully packed. Not one ding or dent on a book. All hard covers are sealed in plastic and the TPBs were all in a plastic pouch together. Surrounded by foam and airbags. The people here who can order from them frequently are getting some quality service. Shames Amazon.

Oh and here's what I got

Rate, ridicule ect ect

That looks amazing. I want my santa bag too.
If it managed to get over there I trust it'll manage to arrive here.

There is always more on the way, it just takes forever. Blacksad has yet to be topped; book is flawless. The second book is great, but not as good as the first, and I thought that book three was just ok but was saved by the art.

Yes Freeza, it was the lack of boobs that lowered my score of book 3.

Man, I thought akirkman had a better work ethic than that. I'm amazed this brah hasn't found a way to merchandise Invincible, all we got was one Atom Eve statue. Wish these brahs would do more Battle Pope, Haunt and Super Dinosaur.

I was stunned to see furry boobs within pages of it starting. Arguably better than Tooth and Claws boobies.

Quality takes time. See Quitely and Aja. Not everyone can push stuff out like Pulido.

Whoa! I thought the Hiketeia (which I loved) was a one-off. Didn't know he had a run after that.
Nope that was just his first work with WW.

He had a run for WW volume 2 #195-226

Here is the trade reading order

Wonder Woman: Down to Earth Wonder Woman vol. 2, #195–200
Wonder Woman: Bitter Rivals Wonder Woman vol. 2, #201–205
Wonder Woman: Eyes of the Gorgon Wonder Woman vol. 2, #206–213
Wonder Woman: Land of the Dead Wonder Woman vol. 2, #214–217, The Flash #219
Wonder Woman: Mission's End Wonder Woman vol. 2, #218–226

No. I have about half of one of them, so we'll get that first one done here soon.

A snowstorm adds atmo to this ish, as DD’s life goes to hell. He conspires w/ the Kingpin against the Hand, stalks women, stabs ninjas, glowers on rooftops: the vigilante hasn’t been this dark since the bad days of Chichester’s run. In fact, it’s dangerously close to breaking the character like a plastic toy.

also, like all Brubaker characters, he says "Damn it..." a lot

BUT ALSO: can't wait for the Cyclops
