I hope he returns...
I stole Messi. I admit it.

I moved over there as well. They're really nice.
Zombine twistin' dat knife. XD

Although losing some members is really unfortunate, I will say that the posts over the past couple days since you reminded us to get back on track have been really solid and enjoyable (and not because of a lack of certain people posting, but rather because we've all become more conscious of the problem and stepped up our game).

You're never going to get rid of me, Kipp. The waifu train never stops.

Just finished Gates of Gotham. For those that don't know, pre n52 story by Snyder and Higgins with script by Higgins. With the Architect showing up in Eternal, I wanted to learn more about him and this was the place. I was pessimistic about Higgins doing the script but actually it's probably the best thing I have read by him.

This is pretty much an origin of Gotham City. Without saying too much, it tells the tale when the power families of Gotham mix up with other people wanting that power. Way more to it but I would ruin the story. Each chapter has a split storyline of the events in the late 1800s and the present. Both stories are equally engaging with each character getting the proper treatment. It's a Dick Batman story and it involves Cassandra, Tim, and Damian also. All the characters are spot on. I don't want to give away the plot but it's really good. The artwork by Trevor McCarthy is fantastic.

Adding this to my want list. Sounds cool. The 1800s part has me really curious to see it.

I enjoyed Gates of Gotham when it came out, but, and I could be totally wrong, I think Gates was the beginning of Scott Snyder putting his name on projects while his boring ass friends are the actual writers on the book. Not a good way to remember that book in my mind. But yo, that was also my introduction to Trevor McCarthy, and I like his work anytime it pops up, Klarion exlcuded.

On a purely conceptual level, Convergence has a similar problem that OMIT did - the people who are fine with DC's direction probably aren't that interested in having their comics interrupted for two months while the people who have jumped off aren't gonna be won back like this.

I remember being really excited for that because of Trevor McCarthy and forgetting all about it after the first issue. I wonder if it had delays or something, because it completely fell off my radar. Hell, I forgot it even existed before you mentioned it.

OMIT was like bringing up a nasty argument with your significant other that neither side enjoyed 3 years ago because THIS TIME, you had some real answers.

Nobody wins.

I really liked OMIT. At least they tried to make some sense in it. And the actual story was good, IMO.

Doesnt change the fact that OMD was the worst thing what happened to Spider-Man in 50 years.

Ooh X-Man animated series comic book is returning next summer:

I feel like McCarthy doesn't really do much work. Like, he'll do a fill-in issue here and there, but I think Klarion is his first on-going. Which is a shame, because the first issue was busting out basically incomprehensible imitation Marco Rudy layouts.

So, since we talked about Playlists for Comicbooks, what do you guys recommend for reading Batman? The onliest track I really consider as suitable is the Burton Batman Theme...

Wasn't McCarthy on Batwoman alternating for JHWIII?

I didn't stick around for Batwoman past the first year or so (boring as shit), but I really only remember him doing a single issue, and he was great for that fill-in.

It was, although that might be a bit harsh.

I think Gates of Gotham worked out pretty well, although I think it's a real shame that they couldn't stick to a consistent artist for a simple five issue miniseries. C'mon, how hard is that? In total it ended up having three artists. It's not like the art got bad or anything, but I'd really prefer consistency at least within arcs, unless there's a diegetic reason to switch it up.

Frank Cho is great but sometimes
most of the time
his sense of humor is...well..

EDIT: Probably should have put a NSFW on that.

I like how he signed as if you can also hear him saying:
"Yeah I'm proud of this".

Looks incredible.

Just finished the Death of Wolverine.

.....eh.

why did he just up and leave Cyclops so fast lol

and then Dauterman got the Ryan Stegman treatment, "you're too good to be on this, we want you on something bigger" "but I only drew like 4 issues" "thorartistsayswhat" "what?" "great news, we'll tell Jason you're on board"

Doctor Strange is one of those heroes I have very little knowledge of, and with the recent movie announcement, I wanted to seek out some comics. There isn't a whole lot of solo stuff, I know he's in the New Avengers and people love that, but I wanted more of a "history of Stephen Strange" thing to get a feel for the character.

Forgot I had the Doctor Strange Season One until I was dusting last night, so it was the perfect thing to get started on. Still in the beginning, as I've just brought it to work with me, but I can say that Emma Rios's art seems extremely fitting for the panels and direction they seem to want to take things. I know that that he's been in Uncanny X-Men via cameos, and I remember an issue where he was in Fearless Defengers but I'm interested to see what all the fuss is about with him :p

The dark knight soundtrack works great

I dunno, a few tracks work very well with the Comics, like Jokers Theme and The Dark Knight Main Theme (Even when I still have to figure out, if theres a track that contains it more prominent...), but most of them sounds to "realistic" for me... They dont match with the more fantastic and gothic part of ComicBatman.

He was yeah. But to go back on Gates, it's what made me dig Higgins pre-nu52, and while his Nightwing was eh as fuck, he wrote Deathstroke fighting a dude by throwing a goddamn submarine at him.

It's nice getting my order in on a Monday, I'm glad CheapGraphicNovels has started updating before the actual ship date so they can start processing. I can see myself putting in another smaller order later this month when GOTG by Abnett & Lanning vol 2 and the final Scott Pilgrim hardcover hits. If I don't blow all my cash on food and other crap I'll probably throw the FF Hickman Omni vol 2 on there too.

ORIGINAL SIN HC
ORIGINAL SIN HULK VS IRON MAN TP
AVENGERS (MARVEL NOW!) VOL 06 INFINITE AVENGERS PREMIERE HC
NEW AVENGERS (MARVEL NOW!) VOL 04 PERFECT WORLD PREMIERE HC
SECRET AVENGERS (2014) VOL 01 LETS HAVE A PROBLEM TP
WAR OF KINGS ROAD TO WAR OF KINGS TP
WAR OF KINGS TP

His creator owned book gets pretty decent reviews, I don't know what happened to his Nightwing.

It's the second time I've seen him do one with that particular theme too...though it was with Hulk and She-Hulk last time.

Gross.

Impact palm. Impact palm. I know of Doctor Strange and his role and some key points but MvC3 pretty much put him as "The impact palm loop guy".

I'll come back to season one later today (gotta walk the dog, priorities yo), but if you have Marvel Unlimited they have the entire Lee/Ditko run. As the resident old comics guy, I'd say check that out.

I am not a big fan of Variants or Artists Greatest Pieces Editions, but I would buy a Collectionbook with all Scottie Young Variants.

After that you should read Peter Gillis' Strange Tales and Dr. Strange & Dr. Doom: Triumph & Torment. A lot of his great solo stuff still hasn't been traded yet.

Man, I keep forgetting about Marvel Unlimited! I've had it for a year, and almost never use it since I always end up buying the comics in physical format haha.

The Internet says that Roger Sterns Run on Dr. Strange should be very good and also recommends the Miniseries The Oath. I havent read either, but those are the ones, Ive heard in the last days the most time.

I think I've already said how bummed I was that C.O.W.L. wasn't a turn of the century book about plucky workers using their powers to take back the means of production, but I'll reiterate: MAN, I'd totally read a book that's all about turn of the century marxist superheroes fighting evil and capitalism.

I dropped Veil after three issues I think. I just couldn't get into the "world" being built. Definitely bummed as Rucka's stuff usually resonates really well with me.

That would be fucking brilliant and I would buy the hell out of that book. Why has no one done this yet? And if they have why has no one told me about it?

I recommend Dr. Strange: The Oath by Brian K. Vaughn. It's short, but quite good.
