It wasn't even the first multiverse/Crisis story though (was working within a tradition of them), and the style is very Wolfman/Perez. Perez is the human embodiment of compression so much so that he's actually only one foot tall, so enormous are the forces acting on his being.
Erm, basically, COIE is a very 80s comic is what I'm saying. I don't think it's particularly 'human' or 'true'-feeling, and I don't think the sci-fi ideas were that big even at the time. Hickman is able to mix autistic-level science goodness with sweet, human moments unlike many other writers. Crisis doesn't even get a look in.
