For me it is Saturn. As a Sega kid I wanted one but some friends started getting the playstation and lot of games were amazing so I ended up with that. Still don't rule out to get one in the future and build a small collection of games... maybe...
The other one would be neo geo but I never actually intended to get one. Way too expensive to get into it

Maybe the Zeebo. I always wanted to try this BREW frankenhardware. It probably didn't do well in Brazil, since it is really overpriced for a supposedly cheap console.
Game Boy Player. Not a necessity anymore, since I have an open source GBA Consolizer, but it would have been great.

I eventually got everything I wanted to at least try, some in recent years only though. So I am pretty satisfied and happy with this.
The consoles I only got pretty late are the Neo Geo (both AES and CDZ, the later was awesome) and Core 2 Duo. But in the end, I decided that these consoles were not worth keeping. I also got the SNES and Mega-CD a few years before as well, only kept the Mega-CD. Also the Game Gear, great handheld, I upgraded the screen.
In the end, all these old consoles are rendered useless by the Wii U if you play on HD TV, which can play all of these perfectly. As I game on CRT TV, I keep my MegaDrive/MegaCD, but it would be pretty useless if I played on HD TV.

I wanted a PS2 back in the day but wasn't in the condition to buy one, and by the time i could afford a console we were already in the ps360 gen and i didn't think it was worth it getting a ps2 anymore.
Nowadays, two pieces of hardware i want are a Switch and a VR device, but i don't think the amount of use they'd get from me at the moment would be worth the cost and the space they'd occupy.

For me it would be dreamcast. I like the name and it had a few games I wanted to play on it. The other would be neogeo? I think just because of fighting games but I'm not to familiar with the system. I probably won't buy those systems though since I've currently stopped collecting.

* 3DO - kind of the same story here. I didn’t make my own money and I could never ask my parents for the machine.
*But something I really obsessed about was the Mega-LD / Pioneer Laseractive. It was a mega drive/ genesis, Mega CD and Laser disc player all in one! I was saving money for the mega CD that I eventually got, but saw this in a magazine. There were rumours some Sega games would be on LD-format. But it would cost 1000 dollars and never really made it to Europe.
And when I write obsessed I mean obsessed. At around 11 years of age I carved “Mega LD” into a big ass tree. The same tree where you had lovers carving their names for eternity. So on the tree was something like:

But just look at this sexy beast - can you blame me?

well for the laser part, at least I think you can softmod it nowadays which switches the laser for games to the DVD-R laser.
but damn, that thing sounds like a real hassle lol

Yeah, the last time I looked there was a way of getting around the optical pickup problem using FreeMCBoot, but HDD failure was still a problem. The original HDD has special firmware that implements non-standard (and undocumented) IDE commands that are apparently part of Sony's MagicGate DRM system - if they aren't implemented then the DVRP fails to initialize, which might not seem like too much of a problem (who really needs a standard-def DVR in 2021 anyway) - but due to the way the PS2 side of the system sees the HDD via an emulated DEV9 interface provided by the DVRP if the DVRP doesn't come up then the HDD is entirely inaccessible from the PS2 side too.
It's a really classic piece of "why is this thing so complicated?" Sony design.

Same. Always loved the way it looked. Like a mega drive on steroids. But the software was lacking for my particular tastes. Every so often i revist the idea of buying one off ebay but talk myself out of it. Especially now with modern tv solutions etc.Actually got to play one of those for several hours. After using the quest, the tech was NEVER there for that to be VR.
I never got to play the Saturn, always wondered how it would be.

I always wanted a Gameboy SP (that sweet folding and backlight). Next was the Gamecube. They had those bad boys for 99 dollars and i wanted one so bad. All my friends had PSPs and played GTA on it and the whole system just felt so cutting edge and next gen to me because of its functionality. Would have loved to have had one.

Nailed it, OP. For me, it was Neo Geo. I was a huge fan of Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown. For me, the Neo Geo was highly elusive. To this day, I have never laid eyes on a physical box. I didn't even know a kid who knew a kid who knew a kid who had one.

I used to have a Sega Genesis, and remember that I read about the Sega Saturn, but then out of nowhere I found out the Dreamcast was already out because of a friend that had it. I loved it so much, but it was already too late.

Ok so its cheating a little as the Konix ended up getting binned off. The whole set up was a little overkill seeing considering how shite the hardware was actually going to be. Stil fancied one though. Playing the Last Ninja on a hydraulic chair was an intruiging - albeit pointless - proposition...
