Controversial GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition Remasters Get Big Update 3 Years After Release

The worst thing about this is that the remaster still sold well enough thanks to the GTA brand. Absolute disgrace for a company with infinite money and tons of resources to handle this in-house.

Pokemon keeps selling too. Fanbase is where it's at. No need for quality anymore.

Any way for us physical PS4 bros to get a free upgrade to PS5 yet? That's another feature I'd like.
Technically shouldn’t the PS5 Pro Upscaling for PS4 games improve these even further? Not sure I want to be the guinea pig to test it though considering how bad the initial ports were unless it goes on sale.

"Controversial"? I'd say those Grove Street Games "remasters" were a hell of a lot more than "controversial".

Did I luck out by getting these games when they were still available as PS2 classics on PSN?

I never looked but I heard those got pulled down when they released this uh..."remaster".
If even just to have a downloadable copy of the original GTA Trilogy in some form, yes, it's good to have them.

To give an example, I had forgotten that I had bought the original versions of the games in the GTA Trilogy on Steam at some point. All three are now delisted, but I still get to access them whenever I want. And I could just as easily pirate these games, but I'm happy to have them.

This is awesome. San Andreas looks so good with classic lighting and the performance settings look even better than before. The only real hitch is empty places streaming static instead of music audio.

The classic lighting is broken in Vice City (sun global lighting is busted) but the performance mode improvements with regular lighting look great. Best of all, Vice City's driving has been overhauled to have more traction and make high speed turns much less likely to spin out. The license plate number still flickers, but if you focus somewhere else it fades away.

P.S. I can't believe how well these run on Series S. I imagine it is even nicer on other platforms.

Can we have a patch for RDR2 you shites?

Signed

Everyone

Edit: too harsh to drop the C bomb even though they are
Nope. They are cunts! They are the perfect example of a studio who knows their product is top tier and have no shame in profiting multiple times off the same product because consumers are fucking stupid! It's partially our fault, we keep paying!

Edit: They'll never give that RDR2 patch for free, it's going to be another full priced remaster. Like c'mon they couldn't even bother to remaster RDR, they basically just re-released on PS4 and called it a day.

They did, the controls are an absolute abomination though. I have them but couldn’t possibly play them for more than 10-15 minutes. They don’t hold up well gameplay wise.

How did this take a year to fix. Games look so much better now, it’s unbelievable.

RIP Grove Street

Few screenshots from the new patch PC version. I really really like these DE versions now. Look great, work awesome with controller, support DLDSR, no hassle with mods.
But, they could still use better LoDs (eliminate NPC and enviro pop-in, dammit!) and better texture quality (Rosa texture pack for SA looks so much better than vanilla!).

Looking good! This gives me a reson to buy the trilogy down the line. They could have added ragdoll physics to all three games, it would have made them feel more fresh

Saw a few comparisons and the big problems seem all solved now. It's not just the lighting, but acts like rain and sandstorms, animations, water, fog, interactable objects, reflections. They spent some time with it.

If it weren't for the missing songs i'd buy it for the PS5, but as it is PC with mods is the best way to fully fix these games.

I have been playing an emulated version of San Andreas on my PC through PCX2. I have the game set to 4K upscaling and have been using a 60fps patch. The game still looks absolutely fine and Rockstars attention to detail is still seen even way back when. It's been a joy to go through the game with such clarity and higher frames. That's all this game needs imo. Maybe the draw distance could be better but I accept it because I know I'm playing an old game.
If a low latency SD OLED monitor existed you could just play GTA and every other PS2 game via PS2 with a HDD.
Bringing a modern SD display to market would be the most disruptive thing to happen to gaming in a while.
DF doing side-by-side PS5 @4k vs PS2 @SD and 20 year old PS2 GTA "just looks better".

I also agree a simply res/fps bump to the PS2 originals would have been much cheaper for them and better for the fans as it would have retained the artstyle.
I'd be more interested to see what GTA San Andreas remade for PS2 now would look like.
All Sony has to do is add EE+GS combo chips to a PS5 and reopen PS2 as a digital-only platform.
Rockstar has 8.5GB of DVD space and PS2 GTA SA's ISO is only 4.5GB.
The second PS2 version of SA has destructible fire hydrants and it seems likely that Rockstar might have other things that they would've liked to have done.
The whole lineup of Rockstar's PS2 games could be reworked to add some things without taking away from what makes the games great, DualSense being the most obvious upgrade.
