I think the reason why is because Japanese cosplayers

1) Put more effort into their costumes

2) Tend to look a tad more like the characters they're dressing up as.

And half the Japanese cosplayers posted are likely professional models too

Dude, i saw that guy in person. I was just sat around chatting away on my laptop with some friends on irc (half of whom were sat at the same table as me... this was at a joint linux/sf con-type thing - you could literally have bottled the air and sold it as Purified Essence of Geek), and suddenly the conversation goes something like:

<dude who saw it first> over by reception.
<everyone else> HOLY JESUS FUCK MY EYES
<everyone else> IT BURNS
<everyone else> MAKE IT STOP

And that was when he was facing away from us. And not moving.

When he turned around and started walking in our direction......... *shudder*
