Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
I think I'm finally getting good at this game.

Why so many people like 1.6 better isn't that game like seven years old or something?

I was playing it in high school, which makes it easily 12 years old.

lol you're bring back memories trin.. I had 1.6 installed on most of the computers in our CISCO lab. For the school's field day we organized a lan and had groups come in rotation and play cs.. oh lord those poor kids, I can still hear their cries of 'omg who is shooting me'. Though I'm not quite as old as you, that was about 6 or 7 years ago.

Those memories of playing in my high school dorm with all my friends over the LAN is what is making me want to get GO. I played a ton of original CS, but very little of Source. Sounds like people are enjoying it, but the community is really small.

I'm dying to play the game though, so I might pick it up anyway.

Might as well, it' pretty cheap for the value it offers (it will be supported for eons as well). I for one am enjoying it, despite sucking at it... Arms Race is really good though, just could use a few more maps.

A little bit OT, but does anyone remember a custom CS:Source map with: 4 large concrete cube shaped structures (ramps on the back) and one tall tower in the center with ladders on both sides. The map was symmetrical. I want to say it had "fox" or "tower" in the name. This would have been about 4 years ago. The textures were greyish concrete and grass on the ground. It was simple, but great.

Wow I know exactly what you are talking about, can't think of a name but "concrete" is coming to mind.

is anyone using ps move for this? how well does it control?

Very well actually, but there are a few glitches, plus an annoying control config decision.

As for the glitch, when you are online and switch to scope view, the scope reticule doesn't match the position of the normal view cursor, forcing you to re-acquire the target. Oddly enough, this doesn't happen offline, against bots.

As for the control config, secondary gear (knife, grenades) is mapped to UP on the D-pad, meaning you have to stop/release the stick in order to select. It would have made more sense to map it to the main Move button (which is currently not used).

There are some issues with the aim assist as well, but that would take me too long to explain here. Let's just say it lowers cursor sensitivity on target acquisition, which is annoying for Move users.

That said, I'm playing with Move exclusively and I'm getting my fair share of MVP stars in every match.

I play on 360 all the time.

One of my favorite things is getting on a team with 4 bots and just following them all charge into the other team and just rolling over them. Those bots man, hilarious but fun.

Still pissed I lost those 100 or so kills. My stats are all different in the accomplishment/leaderboards/ranking pages.

I just bought this for 360 the other day. I've been out of the loop with video games for a while and saw this on Xbox live and my brain was immediately flooded with fond memories of playing CS 1.6 so i bit the bullet instantly.

I'm having a good time with it but goddamn if I'm not disappointed to find out this 5v5. I don't understand why it's exclusively 5 man squads when I've played these maps before and they could easily be played 12v12. I miss playing epic rounds of de_militia and de_aztec in 24+ player servers. I can see that this is supposed to be a faster paced accessible version of CS for console players but the option to play with larger teams would've made this so much better.

And this game was released on PC too? Why would anyone choose this over to CS:S where you aren't limited to 5v5?

update!

Release Notes for 9/14/2012

[ GAME ]
- Added third-person gunshot flinch reaction animations for all players
- Molotovs and incendiary grenades now explode in mid air if they haven't touched the ground after a small amount of time has passed
- Molotovs and incendiary grenades now no longer throw shorter than the other grenade types
- Fixed grenades bouncing really high if you threw them straight at the ground
- Fixed grenades that don't have a timer (like the smoke) not detonating if they found a spot to continually bounce and not touch what was considered "the ground"
- Fixed a bug in bullet penetration where a bullet would penetrate walls much thicker than intended when the first brush the bullet hit was a detail brush.
- Fixed a rare case when server reservation would not load correct map on official servers
- Flipped MP7 viewmodel fire selector from safety to full-auto

[ UI ]
- Fixed spectator glows not updating state often enough which could allow glows to show at the wrong time
- Fixed player target ID names not showing properly in some cases when observing/spectating
- Fixed the spectator UI showing in Arms Race
- Fixed player not auto observing their killer after the death camera if no bot was available to take over
- Fixed round in spectator screen not updating if you connected mid round
- If all players on a team share the same team tag, the scoreboard and spectator team names will display the players' team name (steam group name)
- Improved rendering performance of text UI elements

[ COMMUNITY ]
- Added default loading screen for direct connects and custom maps that shows loading progress
- Fixed server console say command to deliver text to all connected clients
- sv_password can now be set on community dedicated servers when they have no players connected and will be enforced.
- Matchmaking: blocking relationships do not prevent direct server joins, they only filter during matchmaking
- sv_pure: VPK files contain the necessary hashes so the dedicated servers do not need to compute them at startup but can be checked with the command “sv_pure_checkvpk”

Bought the game today on Steam, and I'm loving it. It's been years since I've played CS, and this really brought me back. I hate COD, but for whatever reason, CS really scratches the itch.

Is there a GAF group playing?

Game has been CTDing often these past 2 days for me. It's really annoying.
In case anyone is having the same issue, I disabled multicore rendering last night after reading a post on spuf sugesting it and have played for hours without CTDs since.

It's a shame the game is not more popular than it is. It's not hard to find players, but it's a bit sad to open the server browser and see a vast majority of servers with no one playing.

Maybe it was because it was late at night, but i saw that a lot last night.

Awesome. So console gamers really got the shaft here.

Pretty much. That'll teach you to play counterstrike on a console.

Semblance

shhh Graham I'm still compiling this Radiant map

Man, thank you for this. No crashes now.

Played CS way before 1.6, loved it. After some years I got bored with it. CS:S wasn't the same thing. I bought CS:GO some time ago and I love it. It feels like a very good modernisation of 1.6. I love the sounds and the speed, and also the new gameplay modes. And the price was right too.

Got vote kicked from a server today for sitting up on the ledge above the bomb site on Nuke and picking dudes off as they kept through the same door over and over again.

Yep, this is Counter Strike.

can't you only kickvote teamates? i always try to kickvote afkers when there the last one left, and it doesn't work if they're on the opposing team. it was probably impatient dead teamates unwilling to wait the end of the round rather than people raging from dying so much.

I get kicked from time to time too for reasons I don't understand. That's usually when I play with French people. Spanish guys are always kind with me (whatever it is I'm doing wrong lol).

[I'm playing the US version from EU, hence why I get matched with EU people]

Playing on PC and am worried about the health of the game. I will join a public Demolition or Classic server and usually there are ~ 20-40% bots. Some servers are 2 humans and the rest bots. Other times a team will rage quit and the next few rounds are 8v2 until bots get added. I guess thats what you get for joining a public server, it just seems a lot worse than the first few weeks.

oh come on valve, can't even reassign the buttons when using playstation move. dpad up is permanently bound to switch to knife/grendades. fuckin shit man. i hate being a paying beta tester. hopefully they release an patch to let you change your controls or im returning this motion control crap. it aims nice though.

I wasn't the last one alive on the team. In fact, I got kicked after I won the round.

Guys got any tips for a relative noob? I played a little bit of CS:S but never got very good, I'd have like a 1:3 Kill Death Ratio most of the time.

I've been doing much better with GO, pretty close to a 1:1 ratio, but still not great.

I know walking/crouching is vital, footsteps will get you killed, and that flashbangs are huge, and aim for the head. But other than that I still feel like I know almost nothing about the game.

I see some guys who run around like rambo, mashing the trigger on their P90 popping off headshots left and right, or just insta-killing anyone who comes into sight with an AWP.... I don't know what's what.

I mean I just destroy fools sniping in TF2, so I know I've got good aim but I can't seem to hit shit with the AWP/Scout in CS.

People try to do this with three round bursts and always miss. It's a different shooting mechanic than CSS and certainly different from 1.6. Look at the good players, they will aim lower than the head (chest or neck, depending on distance). Ive seen guys getting headshots from aiming at the feet from the other side of dust and doing two round bursts.

The most important thing is to slow down your fire. People can drain a P90 into someone ten feet away and not hit a single time.

I've been playing it a lot lately. I feel like CS:S is more consistent, or was previously I know that had updates a while back during the engine switch. But it's a satisfying game, and I love molotov/incendiaries, really mixes it up.
