Crash Remasters will be completely full-on remade (According to VV)

Apparently the Crash trilogy are not coded in a way that would allow someone to easily port them (something I didn't really know about until yesterday). The best we've seen so far is a repackage into a digital format (PSN Classic), which would have more to do with the external things rather than the internal game code.

Since Shawn Layden said "from the ground up" it looks like they're going to recreate/remake the games (ala Ratchet) rather than remaster/port the game over and render it in HD.

Before I knew about how difficult it would be to bring the Crash games over without a straight up PS1 emulation, I was expecting something along the lines of Halo Anniversary. But yeah, it looks like we're getting a Ratchet & Clank like remake.

I hope they don't screw up the mechanics then, the mechanics peaked in Crash 3 and then went downhill from there.

Reminds me of the KH 1.5 stuff. IIRC, all the original data for KH1 was lost, so when they made the HD version they basically had to recreate everything from scratch. I imagine a similar thing has to be done with Crash.

Yeah... I hope it plays the same. I was kind of hoping they would just move all of the same assets into a new engine so the old textures and models would look sharp / render at 1080p and call it a day.

On the PS Blog regarding the latest Crash news, Vicarious Vision's Dave A. Rodriguez mentioned this in the comments section:

Go nuts.

I just hope the controls are 1:1. I remember the Tony Hawk remake played completely differently, and it was pretty disorienting.

I'm ok with them recapturing the "feel" of the originals, but I hope you aren't referring to controlling a 3D platformer with the d-pad.

I don't trust VV, and my biggest fear is that the remake will be a cheap and tacky cash grab with very little resemblance to the originals.

You don't trust VV, or don't trust Activision to give VV the time and manpower to do the job right?

I've played and enjoyed a lot of Vicarious Visions work (albeit mostly from their portable days) and I have a lot of confidence in them doing something fun. Doing something amazing, worthy of all of the years of waiting for Crash fans? We shall see.

(BTW, I'm not really one of those long-suffering fans expecting greatness, but I'm for sure happy that the franchise isn't being forgotten, and I think a new Crash could fill a spot in many a gamer's diet.)

We'll definitely see something shown off at PSX.

I'd love if they added Sonic 3+Knuckles style enhancements where you can clear stages as Crash Coco and Cortex as a bonus.
