That's an article I think, not a review.

Unscored btw.

I'm excited about the farm stuff lol. Hope it's not half-assed and somewhat connected to the other mechanics.

Wired Italy broke the review embargo going live (use a translator if needed)

Call it a video game "Frankenstein's monster".

Says it's part RDR2, part Dark Souls, part TOTK, part Shadow of the Colossus, etc.
Says it will be controversial, some will love the vast amount of content, some will dislike the lack of focus.

If it has generally consistent impressive reviews I'll buy it no question. I'm really interested in a new single player open world to get absorbed in after playing Arc so much, I want a good story as well but apparently that's it's weak point, we shall see.
Yeah, it'd feel like a no brainer at that point. That also makes a lot of sense, a lot of people could just really be wanting a new solid single player open world title.

my crimson desert challenge: can you manage to not use the word 'content' in your review?...

Let me just say that I will not be looking at this thread a lot because I already own the game and there's no going back. I bought it on Green Man gaming I redeem the key and I've already preloaded.

I'm just going to tell you that I don't want to read anything positive or negative about this and I want to put in a few hours of my own time and then I don't mind seeing what the general consensus is because I want to feel this versus other people telling me how to feel about it. I've seen enough where I'm actually taking a gamble on a new game that I don't know a lot about and I just refuse to watch a lot of media on it other than listening to impressions like John the cuck from digital foundry.

I like the way he described the exploration and just a little slivers of video that I've allowed myself to see have me really excited. I can almost assure myself unless it's some Giant game breaking things that I will really enjoy this game so I don't want a review to taint my expectations of what this will be.

And like somebody else summer was saying I think the mystery of like a GTA like release where there's not a lot of media or some of the footage is hard to get, I think that adds to the Allure but I think what should be really exciting the people is the potential of all these different things you can do and people reporting on it on that it's actually not shit like some people might think because they are trying to do too much.

Support good games don't just buy Madden every year or the next cookie cutter third person shooter like resident evil 9. Support new ideas and when things like this start coming together in a very rare form that very few games really touch on because games like resident evil come out all the time. Games like this that are robustly built are very ill often and certainly when it's a new IP that catches You by surprise, we don't get as many of those as we used to during the PlayStation 2 era for example. So if this game is good as it looks, cherish that.

That's the spirit

In a time where some of the biggest devs out there are playing it safe with the 10th entry of their stablished franchise, we rarely see a huge, ambitious game like this. So I cant ignore it. I have to support it.

John's PS5 Pro coverage was enough to convince me that it's worth my money. Huge, beautifuly designed world, lots of gameplay ideas, proprietary engine, one of the best looking games out there ... There's a lot to love about it, even if it turns out to disapoint in terms of story etc.

I look forward to the reviews but I'll buy it regardless

You only translated the last line lol.

The line right before it says: Crimson Desert will undoubtedly be a title that will divide opinion, especially given the amount of attention it has received in the months leading up to its launch. On the one hand, there will be those who appreciate the gameplay variety and impressive amount of content, while recognizing that it isn't a perfect title. On the other, there will be those who see this "bulimia" of ideas as a limitation, preferring a more focused and refined experience. They might find both the combat system and progression within such a vast world challenging

Yeah I know, but since I'm one of the former (love how the game seems to have a ton of stuff to do) I didn't pay too much mind to that. Plus I love the mention of "challenge". I think whoever reviewed it just thinks that more casual gamers might be put off by it's complexity, but that's music to my ears.

Basically a jack of all trades master of none if this review is correct.
AI translation & summary:

English Summary

The Setting and Plot

The game is set on the continent of Pywel, a world of high fantasy that was originally conceived as a prequel to Black Desert Online but has since evolved into a standalone single-player experience. You play as Kliff, a weary mercenary and leader of the "Greymanes." After a brutal ambush by a rival faction (the Black Bears) leaves his company decimated, Kliff is thrust into a larger conflict involving a power vacuum left by a comatose king and mysterious supernatural forces from a realm called the Abyss.

Gameplay and Mechanics

The review highlights an "overwhelming" amount of freedom and complexity:

• Combat: Described as a "combat sandbox." It is brutal and technical, feeling more like a fighting game than a standard RPG. Kliff can perform wrestling moves, use environmental objects, and chain complex combos.

• World Interactivity: The world is packed with "delightful absurdity." You can engage in serious sieges, but also play rock-paper-scissors with ruffians, go fishing, or use a hot air balloon.

• Faction Management: A core loop involves rebuilding the Greymanes, recruiting new members, and managing a base camp.

• The "Rule of Cool": The game frequently shifts from gritty Game of Thrones-style drama to high-octane fantasy, giving the player "Abyssal" powers like a feather cloak for gliding and a magical grappling hook.

Verdict

The article praises the game's ambition and technical prowess (noting a steady 60fps on PS5/Xbox Series X) but warns of a steep learning curve. It is a game that rewards experimentation over simple button-mashing.

Sounds fan-fucking-tastic imo

1080p/60fps on base consoles, though, right? Or actually 1440p?

Didnt bought it yet, but unless people saying this game is totally broken 10 hrs in....nothing will change my mind to experience this game myself.
Yeah I'm only waiting for reviews to see if it needs a performance patch. I am buying it eventually, and I will play it, I just don't know if it'll be this weekend or longer. I waited a year for cyberpunk.

Performance wise it looks awesome (i am on pc). Not really worried. Just want to see if there is anything terribly wrong with the game (which I doubt). A little bit of imbalance (due to the nature of the game) and less hand holding than usual are no reasons to keep me away. Game is way too exciting otherwise. :pie_starstruck:

I am calling 80-84% for a few reasons that I've been hearing about.

  1. Story and side quest narratives is not going to be on the same level as Witcher 3 and that will rub some people the wrong way. Won't be bad by any means, but won't be a masterpiece and nowadays people's expectations are a bit high.
  2. Certain clunky menu systems and certain quality of life issues that will be addressed.
  3. Lack of yellow paint hand holding in some puzzles and other areas will cause a meltdown for the usual suspect "journalists". (I personally love this)
  4. Game is too massive and will probably feel too overwhelming for some.

I think the user reviews will end up being higher here.
that's what im afraid of but most reviews usually overstep storry and review based on gameplay only. gameplay wise might be good but to me thats not main reason i buy games, its narrative characters, story, lore ,emotion, excitment, that doesnt have to be all done threw gameplay.

YouTube is perfect for that.

this may be another Claire Obscure moment.

Not really comparable, no one had even heard of that game until it was in an Xbox show less than a year before release, and certainly no one really cared until the reviews started coming out just days before. It's also not a plucky small team of devs sticking it to the man, Pearly Abyss is huge.

Unless your only qualifier is "It's a new IP that turned out to be pretty good"

PA isn't exactly huge; it's considered a medium-sized company. Nexon is much bigger than they are.
