Crimson Desert | Review Thread

What scores do you think Crimson Desert is getting?

  • Total voters

That's fair. I would say compared to other games within its genre for extraction or other GaaS it is nowhere near as bad as something like league of legends skin costs, but it doesn't give away as much free stuff as say arc raiders has up to now.

It's closer to arc to be a consumer friendly and investment in how much free stuff you can unlock, and the paid skins are 80% dog shit so you likely won't spend money hahahaha.
Fair fair.

If the game looks good to you, buy it. This one does. So I did.

Jeesyus.

Actually a good question, not sure where the distinction comes from aside from mindless tribalism.
Youtubers i can see them playing the game live and judge their abilities for myself.

I cant do the same with journols and have to believe blindly on their words or heavy edited videos and it was already proven that lots of them have some kind of agenda against certain games.

At least this is my way of thinking.

"Judge their abilities"? Oh right, because that guy played Cuphead poorly that one time.

That's besides the point because youtubers that do reviews are reviewers. I really don't see any difference here besides a) mindless tribalism or b) confirmation bias.

Crimson Desert has better reviews than Marathon.

Lots of conspiracy theories ITT

Many major outlets haven't reviewed Marathon yet. Bungie requested that people hold off on reviews until their new map released.

Kind of a weird thing to grant if you're also going to slap in progress numbers on Crimson Desert.

Leana? With that face? Yeah more like Le Anus

As someone who doesn't have a horse in the race, this thread has been amazing. It's like Review Thread II: Turbo Alpha Xtreem.

I'll give this a proper look after some months after patches hit and all. Not into open world games but I loves puzzles and exploration so...maybe?

You can usually tell youtubers are real gamers, and all their reviews come from them.
Their gameplay in games are posted and streamed. And it's not like an outlet like IGN where some review is person X and the next one is person Y.
No one can keep track of who did what review on IGN, and what games did they play previously, etc. It's less transparent.
And that's not even taking into consideration the advertising and MC weight and all the other factors that can influence.

People that act like education is some end all be all are always wrong. I'll take actual experience you can verify any day.

So the IGN reviewer that people have been bringing up is Travis Northup.

Highguard: 7
Arc Raiders: 9
Outer Worlds 2: 8
Borderlands 4: 8
Avowed: 7
Lies of P: 8
Concord: 7
Palworld: 8
Diablo IV Vessel of Hatred: 8
Diablo IV: 9

He was indicating he wanted to give Crimson Desert a 6. I guess he had some pretty major bugs. But I was hoping I could see what he thinks on Elden Ring's approach to being very hands off, but I didn't find anything.

He complained for lack of lore and not proper guidance I think. Which is why I was curious what he thought a game with a similar hands off approach.

Not saying all of their opinions are worth anything specifically to me, but cmon man.

So he's 2/10. Right on Lies of P and Arc Raiders. ha!

Do you think anyone at IGN plays as much games as these youtubers? A lot of these youtubers are playing 12+ hours a day.
Acting like a journalism degree is education is just hilarious to begin with.

Logic on neogaf? Get outta here. Dont let ppl think IGN isnt a single dude and let them keep comparing their past reviews with Crimson like a bunch of copeheads.

The guy at ign played like 110 hours didnt he?

You should try not to see everything so black and white

I bet a lot of gaming journalists became that just because they love videogames

The same goes for 99% of gaming youtubers?

If you agree with their opinion or not is an entirely different matter

Looks like I agree with about 20% of his opinions. So, not this one either.

I said it's less transparent. Does this guy stream on twitch and have hundreds of hours of gameplay on youtube? Doubt it.
Probably not but you can read all his previous reviews. Its just a different form of review. I dont think its less transparant, you just have to know that everybody has different opinions.

Plenty of reviewers think the game is awesome so lets just hope they fix the issues that still persist. Crashes bugs etc.

The fact people consider it an IGN score and not some individuals score alone makes it misleading and less transparent.
The news media is kinda going through the same thing. People are moving to individuals like tucker, megyn, tim pool, etc. instead of like CNN says this, Fox says that.
The grouping is less authentic.

In other words, he is paid off shill :P

From what I'm hearing, it looks like only sites that cover PC versions got review copies. Someone I know from a big gaming site didn't get one because they don't cover PC gaming. That feels like a really weird call, definitely not a good move to leave so many people out and filter reviews like that.

I think the scores might go up a bit once more outlets get access.

Watching this review and the game has too many things that sound really unappealing. Given the developers background I was expecting the game to look pretty but be filled with lots of poorly designed and shallow content, without any real story. Doesn't sound like I was off at all. All you had to do was look at BDO and see how similiar that goes looks to Crimson Desert.

Just watched this. He states it in the video but it's worth writing here: He's another individual who mistakenly approached this as if it were Witcher 3 or Red Dead Redemption 2, when over time he realized this is more like Dragon's Dogma 1 with hints of Just Cause 2.

Just as a heads up for anyone expecting a narrative experience, with every new review and impression video this list still holds true:
  • MMO fans = Love it
  • Dragon's Dogma fans = Love it
  • Breath of the Wild/ToTk fans = like it enough so far but want to see more sandbox depth
  • Ubisoft fans = like it but mixed on puzzles and obtuse parts
  • Skyrim fans = like the sandbox elements and exploration, but mixed on everything else
  • ARPG fans = somewhat mixed but action seems ok
  • Souls fans = mixed (like boss fights and secrets/discoverables, don't like the quest presentation)
  • Action JRPG fans = (haven't seen enough impressions from them to know)
  • Witcher fans = dislike
  • Dragon Age fans = dislike
  • Any Story-first RPG fans = dislike

Yeah but I agree with a comment that he doesnt really review the combat, what the bosses are like, what the world is like etc. So it doesnt feel like a good 'review'..

This guy is very positive

That video makes the game seem like utter shit when it comes to narrative. Specifically, there is no main story organically, it's just a bunch of quests that the game gives you for no reason, and it literally goes from arm wrestling to giving a beggar a coin and going in the sewer to save a woman but never explained why you're doing all that? What the fuck is this? And no, it seems like neither the beggar or the guy you wrestly or anyone in the world tell you to do these things. They show up, like some shitty mmo....

I was on the fence with buying this at launch. Read enough of the reviews and i'm going to pass at launch. After KCD2, hard to commit to anything without a good story (that's this long) unless the content and experience is as good as Zelda or FromSoft .

Looks fun enough to fuck around in that I'll pick it up after 6-9 months of patches for $29.99 and maybe I'll love it.

Thus, my list still holds true.

I am taking the plunge on base console. I am praying that I do not regret it. After the reviews I've seen, if I can just beat the shit out of dudes and explore until they patch it a bit to improve some of the clunky and horribly unintuitive mechanics, maybe it will work out? I am desperate for something new to play.
