Cronos: The New Dawn |OT| Survive The Future. Salvage The Past.

How far are you and what is exactly hard?
Just beat the first boss. I find it hard when I die after 2-3 hits. That's to stressful and no fun for me. Like I said, I'm used to play games on easy. I don't like to run in circles around a room to get some distance, only to turn around, fire one shot and then rinse and repeat, 4 monsters in a row...
Games should ALWAYS have difficulty options - yes, even Fromsoft games! 😎

Game is awesome. But it's true, it's hard. As someone who plays all games always on easy, I have to get used to play more carefully.

BTW, I'm a bit upset that Cronos looks so good, while SH2... well. Could it be that Bloober uses a different/better version of U5? And that the patch for SH2 took so long because they want Cronos out of the door first and now use the knowledge and tech from Cronos for the SH2 patch?
You dont think SH2 looked good? I thought it was fantastic graphically

I actually think it was a deliberate design choice, I remember during an interview someone asked about the visual style va keeping the game retro looking or something.. the dev said they favoured the latter so the game wouldnt lose it's grim/dark and foggy visual identity.

To be fair SH2R hardly looked 'bad', it just had a much more muted / simpler setting with mostly poorly lit corridors, and fog while outside ye know?
Oh, I meant the Ps5 pro version of SH2 and the graphical errors with lighting in this particular version I don't talk about the art direction!

It will be considered hard by a lot of people, especially if you play other survival horrors on default settings and don't go for the highest difficulty right away. I don't remember the last time when I had to replay a boss fight more than 5 times (second to last boss is the toughest one imo) and I actually run out of supplies on two occasions without the game offering any kind of a helping hand (like the last killed mob dropping a bit more supplies).

I also really don't like how the inventory system is making the game more difficult. There are only 6 slots when you start the game (with 12 max after the upgrades) and quest items also need free slots. A small key and a shotgun shouldn't use the same amount of space. Plus you're not allowed to take more than 1 flamethrower fuel from dispensers so you have to waste time if you want to be thorough and burn bodies.

Never noticed anything on my runs, I just clocked 40 hours for the plat... what issues did you see?
Haven't you noticed? That comes up in almost every conversation about SH2. PSSR in combination with (an outdated version of) Unreal engine 5 causes ugly graphical bugs e.g. in water reflections or the shadows in foliage. It's quite ugly and Bloober said, they're working on another patch...

Cronos looks a lot better so I wonder what's different now.

Maybe they switched over to a newer version of UE5? I think SH2 was running on the base version of the engine.

And that's my hope - that they waited with the patch for SH2 until the new version of UE5 runs fine in Cronos...

I played further and have to say, I'm getting used to the harder difficulty. Because the player is so fragile, the game is even scarier!
And what I really like is that the gameplay is so slow. Controls and level design prevent you from running around like Rambo.

This is better than I expected. I think they fixed the combat a bit too? Can dismember now and there's body damage. Wish environment has some physics stuff going on though, everything is super static.

The more realistic games look now, the more I notice that. Never even question it in old games but now when I see a table with shit on it, I smack it and nothing moves...what the...

Hooo, this game got me good with a jump scare. The only blatant one I've run into in the first few hours. Well done.

I think the 8s are spot on. This won't be an all-timer for me, but it's solid in a genre that doesn't have a whole lot of solid games.

I was able to play for about 2 hours today, and my first impression is relatively positive. I really liked Bloober's SH2 remake and have generally played all of their titles.

2 Hours Review:

+ Interesting story
+ East European Depression atmosphere
+ Resource management
+ You feel every upgrade
+ Fresh setting
+ Some good horror moments

I played up to the first boss. The difficulty level is okay for experienced players, but you have to play tactically, which I really like.

I died twice, but that was on the boss. I wasn't paying much attention to resources and finally defeated the boss with my fist.^^ You have to use the environment to your advantage.

The only real criticism I can offer at the moment is the flashlight. I wish I could turn it on and off myself; sometimes it blinds me a bit, and the field of view option would have been nice too.

I also Switched the Run Button to L1 this feel was better and faster then L3.

Michael Jordan Lol GIF

(I wish I was laughing. I'm still in a depression about them not doing shit with the Pro issues.)

And if not, it needs a dodge and/or a parry technique cause always moving to gain space with no other option if you don't want to get hit is abysmal in a game coming out in '25. I'm waiting for a sale just because of that.

Excellent. Thank you 😎

I'm gonna have to step away from the threads about it. Or at least try to. I can't get my hands on it til next week. As long as I finish Gears.

Is RT even doing anything besides tankin' performance and introducing heavy ghosting, AO and light artifacts with the glow around objects in environments with heavy fog? I'm so tired from UE5s piss poor RT implementation, be it hardware or software and it's barely any better than shitty DXR in terms of quality. Uh, I guess I have to wait for .ini file edits to make it all less terrible.

Haven't played much since I need to go to work soon, but I instantly in love with what they did right from the start - incredibly moody and mysterious game with all the right influences. Can't wait to play more.

The quality mode on Pro has sections where theres a lot of visual noise and artifacting. The Hospital comes to mind. The way pssr works with Lumen isn't great there's so much noise the walls look like they're "boiling" i don't know how else to describe it. Bloober are clowns too - they solved the Perf modes issues by rem9ving pssr but then decided to leave it in the Quality mode....absolute absurdity to fix one mode and not the other

Game just keeps delivering. Right amount of challenge. Resource managing matters, exploring matters, how you fight matters.

Story so far is top shelf as I am trying to piece it together.

9/10 so far. I was spot on with the idea this would be similar to Callisto protocol.

The same highs and lows I think for people.

Small enemy pool, more linear and no puzzles, etc.

I'm playing with headphones on at night, and my jump scares now over half way with the game are about 6 times. Far more spooky the further you get into it.

I'll also walk back the game is easy stuff. It definitely ratchets it up and I was forced to spend currency to buy more ammo to do a particular section just now. Luckily I had extra cash to do just that but man I would've Been fucked otherwise lol.

On the fence for this one, but the positive impressions here are making me pay attention.

How does it run on the Xbox Series X?

I have noticed a very ugly strange effect, there are like white or yellow spots in the walls mostly during interiors when using the flashlight. Its like some sort of ghosting, very nasty. I think SH2 had the same problem in some parts of the game.

I hope some mod fix this soon

What's this about too little ammo? Is this like resident evil or silent hill? In those games I never ran out at all. Or is it somehow worse?
The game is focused around a mechanic of charging shots - it's risky (takes a second or two), but that way you not only conserve ammo, but also deal more damage with each shot. Sometimes even that is not enough and you can fail a big battle if you didn't take enough ammo with you. The game doesn't allow you to spend all of your credits on buying ammo, because the stations offer a limited amount of it. It's also much easier to deplete supplies if you start using one of the weapons with automated fire.

I've played most survival horrors from recent years and I never fully depleted my ammo in those games (like I did here). Other games usually noticed I'm running dry and spawned more supplies to get me going. That's not the case here and it makes the game feel more oldschool (same with the inventory system) - some people will like it, some won't.

Almost 1:30AM and I'll stop for the day.

Think I'm on the last chapter now that I finished the hospital.

The story is wild!!!!

Hard is so subjective. This game has been piss fucking easy so far.

I've had too much ammo and heals, stuff dies in 3 shots, it has insanely generous checkpoints, and above all it isn't scary it's just atmospheric.

Do you want the game to suck your dick to be accessible?

Who is spreading the narrative this game is hard? If you find this difficult then you must find Mario odyssey a souls like and Kirby to be ninja gaiden on master ninja.
I think reviews spread this rumor but we know the average skill level of these people...

Maybe the game get harder when the fusion mechanic kicks in and you have to constantly burn bodies to not make them merge.

The remake was straight up one of the best looking games of past years maxed out on pc, i saw a lot of footage of cronos and it look worse than sh2, so yt compression is killing the game or people don't remember how good the remake looked (or played on console where ue5 doesn't shine).

Thats the main reason i didnt buy the game. Always played Dead Space or all Resident Evil games on easy or maybe normal. Spending 60eu on a game i get stuck after 2h in sounds stupid. If it hits ps plus or they patch in a easier setting is the only way i will try the game

agree mate, it looks beautiful to me. The lakeside appartments and the strip club in particular looked great

That game looked pristine most of the time, not the highest level assets ever but constantly great and being constant goes a long way with me.

Also some of the human models\faces were chef kiss.

Talking about the pc version, i know consoles have iq problems with ue5.

I played on the console version, I guess I'm less sensetive to IQ / frame issues than others. I thought it looked and ran great on the base ps5!

I don't play multiplatform games on console so i don't know if it was true or if they were just the usual ue5 haters spreading misinformation...

I might give this a shot later down the road, because I really liked SH2 Remake.

But, Silent Hill f deserves my attention first at the end of the month.

Newer version of ue5 i guess.
