What card have you got? I'm thinking of getting a 3870x2, but I'm wondering if my CPU (FX-62 - 2.8) will be a bottleneck, I hope not as I hate changing CPUs, as It'll probably make me buy a new motherboard, which I hate changing even more , I have a 530W PSU, so I think that should be ok? There's no way I'm playing the full game till I upgrade, I have a X1900XTX 512MB at the minute.traveler said:So, I've played through the first few levels so far and I have nothing but praises for the game. As far as performance goes, I've been running this on a 1280 x 1000(?) res with all settings on High and getting an average of around 30 - 40 FPS, which is perfectly acceptable and quite beautiful looking. I'm sure I could get it looking even better with some tweaking though. How do I, for one, enable edge AA and motion blur in DX9? (I tried DX10 but it ran a bit too slow for my liking; I'd like to grab some of the effects and simply use them in DX9 instead) Also, is there any way to reduce pop-in? I'd gladly sacrifice a few frames to make it less noticeable.

Really, It's not scaled that poorly. A 1950 should be well able to play it fine with a mix of medium and high settings. The CPU might bottleneck it a little bit, but as long as you have a modern CPU (like anything newer than the P4 or AMD equivalent (Athalon XP?)), it only maxes out CPU when doing rediculous physics stuffDarkflight said:What card have you got? Solideliquid said:Great setup you've got there. I guess you have flat panel 4:3, but that is a good video card to run Crysis on. I think as long as you have everything set to High motion blur should be on and also edge AA should be on.
If you want to experiment download the Cvargroup file with very high spec settings and follow the instructions to run the game in very high (in DX 9). However watch your FPS drop to about 20 average.

Wow I just used those settings and not only does it look better, especially the foliage, but I get around 10 more FPS. Thanks for the link.Solideliquid said:http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1241493

Also, the config provided in that link is great. I am, however, encountering some weird visual glitch that keeps making my hands glow with a whitish aura. I think the creator mentions it in the thread, but I have yet to see a solution. Has anyone else had this problem and/or figured out a way around it?
updates**
someone found using my tweak there is a white glow around gun/hand in the dark area and i will a way to get rid of it and improve the lighting even further
change two commands
r_ssao_amount=0.2
r_SSAO_darkening=3.6
this will lighten up a bit for the darkest area and darken the light shadow a bit and imo it is more realistic and it get rid of the white glow effect as well...so, give it a try and let me know how you gets on
purg3 said:Try this out. Not a bad custom config.
Yes, but not with Crysis. As far as I know, it isn't possible to achieve the kind of IQ in those shots in realtime right now. For one, even 16xQ AA is unable to produce such a clean image (downsizing a large shot simply looks better), but even if it were close, the edge AA in Crysis disables itself when using regular AA (which has a huge impact on foliage). So, basically, you can't achieve such a perfect image in game right now. Furthermore, regular AA is SO demanding that it absolutely destroys the framerate on every rig (making it completely useless). The game looks fine without regular AA (using edge AA on foliage).Draft said:PC Gaming :bow
King of Anti Aliasing :bow
You're probably right. I'm sure that the framerate was very poor, however. I've never seen AA have such a huge imapct on performance as it does in Crysis. I prefer using just edge AA, though. There is so much foliage in the game that it really helps.that pic to me looks like edgeAA is disabled meaning the shot was taken with extremely high in game levels of anti aliasing rather than downscaling a really high resolution screenshot, maybe im wrong though
I'll bite. Took me two minutes to apply dark10x's config. Game runs at ~45fps though it has dipped into the mid 20s.urk said:You can only play on medium settings unless you have a $4,000 majestic computer, so I'm going to go ahead and assume the framerate being better then you expected means you squeaked out an average of just over 10fps.
I'll also note that you had to spend hours patching and tweaking the "config" files so you could enjoy this 60fps placeholder technology, motion blur, and even then you mistook the lower settings for Ultra Super High. I call your senses into question. At 10fps and medium with the screen all smeared up from motion blur, then game looks worse then Far Cry.
The suit? It brings nothing. The gameplay you experienced must have been brought on by some sort of fatigue due to the grappling you endured with your ultra fine-tuned custom game files. I have no other explanation. Perhaps you're just doing it wrong. It really adds nothing at all.
And the shotgun is terrible. The ability to switch out the ammunition, allowing two types of buck spread for either increased accuracy or a wider pattern? Yeah, dumb idea Crytek. Your options serve only to confuse me. And players don't like being confused.
After reading through your post, I have to assume that even your opening words are false. You don't even have a job, do you?

Um... just connect the video card to LCD TV and play with the Xbox 360 pad. Crysis has support for the pad.urk said:Yeah, but you can't play from your couch, so...

You guys are crazy. Look at the pic, it has a crazy amount of AA. It is obviously doctored. Show me a pic with HUD that is as that good.

I'm guessing this "reference pic" was taken on DX10 Very High since the rendering quality is a bit better i.e. sharper/clearer textures + overall better quality. This pic is also a bit darker than mine and has less bloom.

urk said:DX10 looks nicer in a few places, but it's not worth the performance hit in my opinion. Hopefully some better drivers, some title updates, and a dash of MinWin might help out. I mean, I've got this copy of Vista just sitting here collecting dust.
Also, anyone interested in configuration modifications, a few of the more notable tweakers from incrysis.com have gotten together to come up with a build that utilizes system.cfg, cvar, and TOD tweaks to create a build that looks stunning and runs extremely well. They think they'll be done in the next couple of days and some of the screens and videos of it looks pretty damn nice.
