Custom Cover Art - Minimalist, clean, or alternative box arts for your favorite games

Alright, I can give it a try.

Looking at Wikipedia, for FF games on PS3:

XIII, XIV, XIII-2, Lightning Returns XIII-2..

Should the XIII-2 and the Lightning Returns versions get their own covers? Final Fantasy naming schemes are so confusing.

Well, here's XIII at least:

Wow, I hadn't realized how many covers have been made for FF13.

Looks nice. I think you could also do XIII-2 and LR. X and X-2 HD are also applicable.

The logo kind of goes against the concept of minimalist imo. I would rather see Lighting on the cover.

Well, the thread is for "Minimalist, clean or alternative" covers, not just minimalist. I also did make a more minimalist style on the previous page for XIV:

Here are some variations:

..but it seems like the person who requested the cover (AuthenticM) preferred the one with the roman numerals on the back. :p

Edit: oh, did you mean the coloured-drawing part of the logo on the front?

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't mind doing requests.

Someone else made a pretty awesome Bioshock 1 cover, so I probably don't need to make one of those:

Yeah, I can see it now. It looks great!

Awesome!! You're very talented, love the Bioshock ones.

Thank you. There was very limited art available for Viva Pinata (The logo, for example, was from the sequel) so I only could really make one variation.

In other news: I noticed my Twilight Princess cover's front wasn't really centered, so I decided to fix that, and make a few other minor changes..

While I was doing it, I decided to make another TP cover:

After that, I felt like making a different Zelda cover

(The image scaling on the box preview has a bad effect on the shading on the symbols on the back, they look much better in the full view)

Dunno if this is particularly significant for the game (never played it) but I love that artwork and cover! Think it's about my little obsession with huts&cabins.

MAGIC - Duels of the Planeswalkers

First Magic-Xbox-Arcade game from 2010 I think, I loved this game!

Still pretty enthusastic about how much you can "fake" in photoshop when you put some effort into it. The complete left side of the cover is made up from this exact picture :D
Learned so much about PS while doing this one!

I've never played Final Fantasy XIV either, I just chose it because it looked pretty interesting and was high resolution enough to use. :p

It looks like the link for the Magic the Gathering cover is for a smaller version. Did you mean to do that? The one I'm getting is 680px high.

Thanks, fixed it!

It's huge with 12mb, sorry for that, you will have to compress it for the Dropbox I know .) Will inform myself in the next days what the best format is or if you can recognize any difference when printed out if I just use Jpeg.

As long as I really know whats sufficient I will just upload the PNG.

Oooh, there's a thread for this? Nice.

Those are my favourites, I have a lot more.

Nice to see more people contributing, (and those are some nice looking covers) but two things:

One, I'd recommend you save a smaller preview for posting on GAF, or at least put those large ones in quotes. I'm sure anyone who browse on mobile would appreciate it. :p

Two, those don't appear to be at a printable resolution. Currently, your covers are a bit of a mismatch of size, and they all appear to be 72 DPI, which means they won't print very nicely. For example, if you printed your Batman cover without altering it, you'd get a giant 27.514 by 15 inch thing.

If you'd like, here is the template I made for use with all DVD-size cases. Although the covers do have a bit of size variation, they're close enough for this to work fine. It includes logos for PC, Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360, PS2 and Gamecube. This template is 300 DPI and should print (if unscaled) at 10.75 by 7.187 inches, which should be close to the correct size for all DVD-sized covers.

Also, here is a template I made for PS3/PS4, since they use the Blu-Ray sized cases, not DVD.

Of course, you're not obligated to create printable versions, but I would say that is the focus of this thread, as opposed to vgboxarts which has more of a focus on just creating mockups.

Tried out something...

Zone of the Enders HD Collection PS3

Zone of the Enders HD Collection X360

Those look really good.

I've always thought the stock cover was actually very good, but then they just stamped that MGR demo right on the top.
Why couldn't they use a sticker or something?

Even the collectors edition has the same problem. Seriously?

I haven't seen any. I was thinking about making one, but I don't even know what the box looks like. (I'd need the dimensions and something to base it off of)

Actually that's the same problem I have with doing Vita covers right now. I have no idea what the dimensions are for each side or the spine of a Vita box.

Problem will be that no one has extra boxes for the Vita (Correct me if I'm wrong). I just use normal Ps3 sized Boxes.

Here are the rest of the Arcade/PSN Games I want to do in the future but some are just too painful to find something to work with. So if someone is really bored, give it a try :D Just be warned, I mostly give up on these after putting half an hour into it again and again. Just nothing good to work with available.

Maybe I'll turn to AAA-Games in the future, let's see.

Beyond Good Evil HD Xbox
Gatling Gears Xbox
Guardians of Middle Earth Xbox
Minecraft Xbox
Monday Night Combat Xbox
Torchlight Xbox

Can someone help me with a request? Could anyone that has the game scan the barcode for Deadpool for the PS3. I have it for the Xbox so I can easily scan that, but would also like the barcode for the PS3 version.

Just the barcode.

Awesome! Now I don't know which one I want to use.

Glad you like them! Whichever one you choose, I'd love to see a picture of it printed, if you end up doing so - it sort of justifies the effort I put into making them. :0

What gives it away? I haven't played the 360 version, but I thought it was mostly the same except with limited world sizes.

Its the mods and DX injectors they are using.

Water reflection, depth of field, and lighting gives it away the most for me. Plus its a massive resolution.

I'm not saying its not a great cover, or it shouldn't be used, just thought it was funny.

Oh, well I'm okay with that part of it. Most box art isn't actually from the game itself, so as long as it's not depicting something that's totally absent from the game itself, I figure it's acceptable to go on the cover. :p

Alright, second one I wanted to try was Rogue Legacy. Same deal, took some screen shots, did some cutting, and put it together. Just had no idea for the back, so left it blank.

I want to do Enemy Unknown next, but I have zero idea on how to do it. Might try doing some original stuff now.

Does anyone here have covers for the Shin Megami Tensei series on ps2 but in ps3 style? I want to get all my games in ps3 covers and leave the originals packed.

I really like this artwork, where did you find it? Not sure about how it will look when printed though, seems hard on the edge resolution-wise?

The placing of the logo on the front isn't perfect in my opinion. It's a great artwork, but the logo is pretty big and right on the dragon's head. Just my opinion but I'd try to place it on the bottom of the page maybe.

I'm not sure what my source was, but the original art is a mural in Mojang's office:

I did manage to find half of it at a much higher resolution, but I couldn't find the full mural, so I scaled up a smaller version because I liked the art so much.

Tried the bottom. It just didn't look right in my opinion.

Made a few covers for Deadpool based off of the Marvel NOW! cover layout.

The last one is slightly different from the preview. The box with the barcode was changed to match the other covers and I didn't feel like remaking the preview. I would be willing to make PS3 versions if anyone wants. Also if anyone can get me a scan of the PS3 versions barcode that would be awesome. That way, the PS3 covers would have that versions barcode instead of the 360 version's barcode.

I also took some box shots in real life. Half I did, Half by others.

Nice covers, but why are you so focused on the barcodes?

Also, did you print those covers yourself? They look pretty good.

Well, finished up my XCOM cover idea. I feel that something is still missing but I dunno. Might just because the original was great anyway.

This was my original idea, thought it was kind of clever.

Decided to try to add the original cover to it since the black makes it all so empty. I might return to this one, still feels unfinished.

No idea what to do next though.

Those look great, but it doesn't look like they're at a printable size. They'd be perfect for a desktop background, but probably not for a cover.

Your XCOM covers are 1920px by 1200px at slightly over 72DPI, which would print at 26.7 by 16.7 inches.

Here is what I said earlier to someone doing the same thing:

If you'd like, here is the template I made for use with all DVD-size cases. Although the covers do have a bit of size variation, they're close enough for this to work fine. Of course, you're not obligated to create printable versions, but I would say that is the focus of this thread, as opposed to vgboxarts which has more of a focus on just creating mockups.

Anyway, I decide to make some Metroid Prime Trilogy covers, even though I don't own the game.. (yet!)

I have some other ideas for it that I might try later.

I really like the back cover on this one

Metroid%20Prime%20Trilogy%20%283%29.jpgsmall.png

I feel like that would just be a cover by itself.

Maybe use this metroid on the back cover, but switch the colors. So the back would be white, metroid would be black. Would flow into the white on the left side of samus there.

PS3/360/PC/Wii U

(If you check the PS3 cover, I tried to make a new, better-looking PSN logo. Let me know if you'd like it on boxes for multiplayer PS3 games henceforth.)

Ok, now that is really good.

Mind showing me where you got the source material for that cover so I can make a Chaos Theory version?

If you could also send me the assets for Splinter Cell logo and that little goggles logo you made on the spine.

All over the place. Google image search basically.

The front cover is from the comic. The logo I found at VGBoxart, and the goggles thing was cut from a fan-made wallpaper.

Would you mind rehosting them on minus or dropbox? Assuming you still have the original images.

I can give you the original links I found them at I guess. I don't have anywhere else I can host images. You'll have to cut the unnecessary parts out in photoshop like I did.
