Dark Souls III Review Thread

Eh tbh Ludwig never felt that varied in move set, the real issue was
in phase one, if you didn't dodge to his right he feels relentless and like there was no safety, but doing that made him significantly more manageable, his disappearing jump where he randomly drops down like 2-3 other bosses will always be bullshit to me though

Ludwig? I didn't have that much of a problem handling him tbh. Orphan of Kos on the other hand, was hands down the toughest boss I've ever had to face to date. His second phase is unforgivingly relentless.

I am a giant fan of their games, but even I would agree with "more of the same" as a slight negative. The point being, there aren't really any surprises.

I disagree. What kind of surprise, or change do you expected? Specially since it's supposed to be the last of the series? The last game of a trilogy isn't supposed to reinvent the wheel.

For me the surprise of the Souls series is the discovery, the adventure and finding and learning new enemies. And you can get that in spades in DS3.

Since Demon's Souls the series has been slowly refining it's mechanics, setting and lore. It's good enough for me. We can have spin offs like BB or completely new games for more drastic changes.

speaking of "no surprises", lol at the mimics in this game.

they should have just make them walk all the time like any normal enemies in this game considering how many they are and are predictable.

I rather not see any more reviews, but have they said if the game world is the same as Dark Souls I and II in size, bigger or actually smaller?

There is that one though that freaks the shit out of you (or me anyway)

I've almost finished my first play through of 3 and I would say that the game world has to be the biggest yet. The levels seem huge compared to previous games. I also might have missed a secret area or two, because I'm doing a fully blind play through

Looks like there won't be a pre load. I pre ordered directly from Namco, and their redemption page says that the key will be available on the 12th :/

Well great way to go, not even the whole early stuff Dark Souls III was enough, so we won't get a pre load great.

Well I purchased my key on cdkeys.com, I wonder when the keys will be send out.

Oh snap, that sounds fantastic. I will buy it as soon as i have finished 2.

Should I get the pc or ps4 version? I don't mind playing on either.

Yes, they are, bought plenty of keys there, always worked, no problems with the keys or anything.
Got my The Division, SF V and XCOM 2 keys from there.
PC would be recommended if you want to play it in 60 fps.
Probably they will get the keys send out before the 12th April.

I've just purchased my first key via cd-key.com. German Gaf here. Fingers crossed.

Now I get the "PC games are cheaper" argument. 39€ PC vs. 70€ PSN (if you're all digital like me). Wow, just wow.

+ 60fps and better graphics as a bonus

Also GermanGAF here, you should be good no worries.
Have you used the 5% discount code?
You can use it, if you have created an account and visited the FB page of CD Keys.
Yeah that is always the thing with PC releases.

Thanks, no I haven't used the discount code, but honestly...I already feel guilty
for getting the game that cheap. Been a console gamer for most of the time, but this almost feels like pirating the game ;P

I just recently made the switch back to PC. After seeing those prices and the whole console upgrade talk....I love it!!!!

Well the PC prices were always lower than the console prices.
I made the complete switch to the PC one year ago, and I'm happy with it.
I can imagine, good for you wallet alright :P

Yeah i remember, new PC games have always been around 40€/$.
But in the last years I've often seen new games on Steam at 50-60€/$,
so I guess keys are the way to go if you want the old PC game prices. Lesson learned.

10 games: 200-300€ saved.
My appologies to the Master Race for beeing a heretic all those years.
I will repent my sins by hitting myself with a 9 tailed cat.

It's cool, if you buy it straight from Steam, you won't make deals unless you are waiting for deals or the season sales.

At least you can enjoy DS3 on PC now :)

??? If you sprint without stopping, that jump misses everytime without fail.

Every post you come across like your some kind of expert who knows better than the rest of us in here, when most of your posts are nothing more than you telling everyone that what you think is right, as if that is fact.

I'm just arguing my point and trying to present the evidence that I think supports it. I like all of the games in the series, and I've played and beaten them all, including Dark Souls 3, and I'm trying to help people out by giving my opinion, in comparison to points of reference that they will likely know and understand.

Should I add IMO before everything? Most people know to mentally add that in front of any argument they see somebody present on the internet.

These are 5 games made over seven years by overlapping staffs making liberal reuse of mechanics and assets and countless design aspects. That leaves descriptions and discussions of Dark Souls 3 with a damn good frame of reference, and I'm not going to pretend like any predecessors influences are completely meaningless or non-existent because I didn't like that game. That comes off as crackpot-y to me.

And, specifically to the point of the post you quoted, is that really a contentious or arrogant sounding point? Non-linearity and build variety contribute to the overall difficulty curve that a player experiences.

I rather not see any more reviews, but have they said if the game world is the same as Dark Souls I and II in size, bigger or actually smaller?

I think the general belief in the spoiler thread is that the length is in the ballpark of Dark Souls 1, but shorter than Dark Souls 2. Some individual zones can be much more larger and open than anything in Dark Souls 1 or 2, though.

Man, I'm really excited. This will be my first Souls game @60fps that doesn't look like a hairy ass (DS2, PS4).

Hehe, I can imagine. You won't be disappointed the PC port for DS2 was decent too.
I hope the resolutions above 1080p won't be broken.
You will play offline the 1st time?

It's kind of a given that most posts are people's opinions, no? I mean it is a message board. I don't think he or anyone needs ot put 'in my opinion', 'I think' bla bla in front of every message.

Yes but seeing so much praise to the 60 fps on pc i tought it was a major boost in gaming.

It feels smoother to play. For those who appreciate it, it's a more pleasant experience. Many won't notice, or wouldn't care if you pointed it out to them. This isn't a high level fighting game where you have to land your attacks frame perfect. In fact, there are some difficulties introduced to Souls 1 and 2 with a higher frame rate, due to idiosyncrasies in how the game ties its mechanics to its framerate.

Speaking of PC prices, any current greenmangaming coupons that work for ds3?

Would like to know this myself. Also, is it possible to get the OST through GMG?

I also would like to know.

Because now it ts 53€ from GMG or 38€ from cd-key.com. No need to be a Sherlock to know which offer is more tempting.

I tried the APR20 code yesterday (which to my knowledge is the only code at the moment) and it did not work. It says it's only on select titles. Tried both standard and deluxe.

Yeah, I'd much rather have more of the same Souls gameplay that I love over another Batmobile situation. Hearing the game is just more Souls is definitely a plus to me.

So no preload. Bamco pls
even Squeenix gave a preload for FFXIII (yeah, given the game's sheer size that was expected but still)

Bummer

It has its own identity, despite being more of the same. It's clearly a mechanical evolution of the last few releases, but the game is its own adventure, and it really excels in areas that none of the previous games have excelled in, IMO.

I wonder if DS3 wins a bunch of GOTY awards in the same manner that LotR3 swept the Oscars. With three amazing games in three years, Fromsoft really deserves recognition as one of the best developers out there.

The "surprise" here is they have done very clever things to address both turtling and backstab fishing without resorting to 360 degree spins or infinite stamina. The new AI routines are fierce and shield bash and break guard in natural feeling ways that obviously took a lot of thought and testing to implement.

So, subtle but important iteration to be found, rather than a distracting Batmobile style gimmick.

Didn't spend too much time in this thread thinking it would be all review talk, which is not very interesting to me, but this seems like it's pretty much the Pre-OT thread? Man, I'm in.

Can't wait to fight the fuckers in the intro, I have a huge interest in Aldritch, for some reason. Really really excited to know his story.
