Wicked, thanks! I'm gonna BS the ever-living shit out of that tower guard when I see him next!
Tower Guard? The big dude in the church? iirc you can't backstab him.

*Shrug*Absolutely not necessary. I always do mine with LS towards the enemy. Same for ripostes.

I was always pressing LS towards the enemy and would get it maybe 1 out of 10 tries. Much more successful keeping the stick neutral.
The dude in the bottom of the watchtower that connects Darkroot Basin to the Undead Parish.

Can someone give me a hint where the "Painted World"is? Thanks.
Don't count on it, IIRC the guru producer/director Miygzaki (?sp) is hard set on that formula....my view is that he is a bit older, traditional, andhis storytelling has been conditioned over the years by old school classic Japanese porn....teases you enough to get enticed......but too confusing and no happy ending. Climax demands individual imagination.I'm really hoping we'll finally get some of the missing links required to fully understand the lore.
I always begin each playthrough byFrom that battle, I also learned that I need to get some sort of magic defense and/or resistance.
Awesome job. exploring the garden and the links back to the tower and parish is what the virgin playthrough is all about......make sure to get Havel soon though as our advice about rolling is HUGELY impacted by offing that bloke....earlier the better. I can't say how much I love that his item is obviously useful to him the way he fights....very fitting drop. Could be one of the best models for an early game demi boss...tough but not unbeatable at any level with perseverence. REminder soultron that SL1 runs exist for a reason.....never allow the supposed toughness of an area stop you from doing it early with either the right strategy, the right equipment, or a combo. Havel is all strategy, ironically armour is not the issue despite him wearing one of the most sought after sets inthe game. Also don't forget to usesoultron said:After that, I returned to the UP and managed to beat the 2on my first try! The summonedBell Gargoylestook their aggro and kited them away, which was awesome.sun knight guy
I feel like I had quite the adventure today. Really getting the hang of the game now. It's not terribly difficult. It just requires lots of patience. Thanks to everyone who recommended going for an agile character rather than one with super heavy armour. Being mobile is so much more important, you're right. c:
bring pyro and run up the stairs, or patiently strafe around the tight area...no need for armour as he can one shot all but the tankiest clad individuals anyway.I had him below half HP the first time I fought him but since I only do 25-35/hit to him, it was really slow going. I just lacked the patience since I had already been playing for about 3 hours in that sitting. I'll go back and get him the next time I play!
ah that dude. He's pretty easy to stab.
Hey guys I heard that the balder "swag" sword is pretty good so I picked one up and love its move set. I upgraded it to chaos +5 and Im not really liking the damage output too much. Would a +15 regular been better?
Chaos damages scale with your humanity counter: the higher it gets, the higher the damages will be. It caps at 10 humanities I think (?)
Regular weapons require to take a look at your stats. Regular Balder has a an A scale in dexterity iirc, which is really good. So that might be the way to go if you plan to get your Dex stat quite high. I got the Balder pretty early on my first playthrough, and it's still one of my favorite weapons (along with my beloved Great Scythe).
Also know that regular weapons can be temporarily enchanted for additional damages, spiking in absurd amounts of hurt.
The guy I beat sent me one hell of a rage message lol.
unfortunately, animating fur has dem slowdowns, at least that what I think it is.
There's not really any evidence for Priscilla being Seath's daughter beyond the fact that they're both white. It's not impossible, but it's far from confirmed.
what the shit.
i just tried to trade an ascended pyro flame to snuggly and it disappeared. guess im screwed huh?
ive tried unsuccessfully to trade twice now and same thing happened. the item is right by the eggs in the nest. wtf?
I don't know waht to do.
I'm currently SL32 (35 INT, 18 DEX, 10 STR, 12 VIT).
Finished with The Depths, and went into Blighttown. It's been a few days since I played, so I didn't remember and didn't check if I have moss and... TOXIN, you're dead. I tried for a couple more times, but left.
I fucking hate blighttown, and skipped it with my first character on NG+, but I don't think I can afford to skip it this time. There is some nice loot down there. It kills me that I know for a fact I can easily skip it
I could do Darkroot Garden/Basin, but I'll have to ring that second bell one way or another.
Meanwhile, I beat Stray Demon (SL27 ) with spells only. Man, sorcery is so overpowered in this game
Didn't even hit me once, and I had so much trouble with him with my first character.
what the shit.

Are you in at the right nest? When you approach the Crow girl will start speaking to you.
huh guess not then. its not the same one that warps you back to the Asylum then i guess? is there another one right next to the crow down below?
damn. wish i knew that before i wasted that glove. crap!
I just received the Design Work and one detail about Prescilla just blew my mind.
She was supposed to be sitting in Firelink Shrine and help the player like the Maiden in Black in Demon's Souls. And who was planned to be the boss of Painted World? Nito...
Havel & Hydra down. Havel's drop is pretty ballin'. Can equip better base DEF armour now, although I like my Wanderer set because of all of the magic, poison, and bleeding resistances it seems to provide. I've started to use titanite shards to craft the Wanderer set to +3.
Man... after I beat the Hydra, I went up the ladder nearby. (Defeated this crazy golden crystal golem first.) Ended up in another part of Darkroot Garden... has a little bridge nearby. And a tonne of slowdown. I didn't feel like fighting any more of those stone golems with the greatswords and the slowing buff, so I hugged the walls. I didn't know where I was, so I tried to play it safe. It seems like I've not yet been to that area because the little treant trashmobs feel stronger... I feel like I'm not downing them in 2-3 shots like I am with the ones near the blacksmith where the Titanite Demon guards the transition zone between the Undead Parish and Darkroot Garden.
Things started to go downhill fast. Got swarmed by treants, stunlocked, then nearly died. I had about 12K souls on me, so I didn't want to risk it. Used a Homeward Bone to retreat to the bonfire in the cliff face in Darkroot Garden, near the watchtower where you originally face Havel.
I can't put this game down. I thought I was done for the day... just sunk another 2 hours in.
OK thanks for the response (thanks Soultron as well). I guess I was expecting something a lot more like Demons' Souls structurally.
You will want to comb the area near where the golem/hydra used to be. Since you have been and left and quit etc. everythign should be set for your return.(Defeated this crazy golden crystal golem first.) I can't put this game down. I thought I was done for the day... just sunk another 2 hours in.
Depends on what you want from Blightown...if you go the back way it really isn't that bad. YOu could go pick up the armour that enables high curse resist, but this is replaced with other curse resist. There are other dex weapons, the only irreplaceable item is the Eagle shield for me. I suggest you put on the slumbering dragon crest ring after you ring both bells and get it form sen's, then return to loot blighttown backward...many enemies are facing the wrong way and you can backstab the shit out of them by sneaking up from behind each. DO bring all the poison and curse resist stuff you can get though.I don't know waht to do.

Nope, I started my main character as a Pyromancer and he still gave me a flame after I talked to him with an egg-head and levelled up in the Chaos Covenant.I think if you start as a pyro you can not get three ; einygi won't give if you are a pyro (I think) not confirmed. he guy at firelink from lower undead burg is one asnd einygi form the chaos covenant is another.

getting tired of grinding before ng+ so ill probably move on soon.
ive gotten all guaranteed slabs, kindled a bunch of bonfires, scoured most places in all of the areas (i think, still a few glowing drops i havent been able to find a way to get to, like in catacombs by the blacksmith.), completed npc quests that i could, traded with Snuggly.
not sure what left besides farming for more chunks...
anything im missing?
(i think, still a few glowing drops i havent been able to find a way to get to, like in catacombs by the blacksmith.)
I sure dont...Absolutely not necessary. I always do mine with LS towards the enemy. Same for ripostes.

oh gosh, I would pay high price to have that first time experience feeling all over again
after the Elite Knight set nerf, is the default Knight class armor set worth upgrading?
Now I have to get back because I was rockin' 10 humanity. Fuck!
You could farm the shit out of the treant trashmobs in Darkroot to get various types of moss clumps, if that helps!

Just take it slow, the tree creatures are definitely one of those enemies that MUST be drawn out one at a time...any more than 2-3 and it is sure death. Depending on what ledge you fell off, there may be a better way of getting back to your souls with out having to aggro enemies. If you have teh magic tht allows it, you can turn into a tree yourself and they won't see you as long as you inch your way and don't move too close (basically being a tree increases your detction range but does not make you invisible while moving.)Originally Posted by Red Liquorice:

It sounds like you've pretty much covered all your bases. A couple other things you may or may not want to consider before moving on to NG+ arekilling any optional bosses you haven't gotten around to yet and taking care of any weapon upgrades that require embers since you need to collect all the embers again on NG+.
If you're of a bit of a bloodthirsty inclination you can alsokill the Firekeepers for their souls and the blacksmiths for their hammers. None of the hammers are needed for the platinum trophy, and it's not hard to max out your flask almost as soon as NG+ starts without ever killing a Firekeeper, so there aren't any major incentives to doing this beyond satisfying a completionist instinct and/or pure sadism. Killing the Fair Lady with the Old Witch's Ring equipped is particularly harsh.
The last concern is to buy the Master Key if you didn't take it as your gift. You'll definitely want it in NG+.
From the bone pit with the wheel skeletons, you head towards the exploding head guys opposite the way to Pinwheel, there's a crevice that leads into some more catacombs. Climb up a ladder and find the room with the sarcophagus in the middle and the two obvious break-away floors on either side. Fall through there, and you're just above one of the items.
Drop back down to the floor and repeat, only keep going until you're in the crypt with the titanite demon and the sarcophagus to Nito's chamber. Head out of the room into the catacombs, there should be a little stub of a platform that doesn't quite reach across to the doorway (Doorway leads to the room with the breakable wall that goes down to where you get the Darkmoon Seance ring). Take a leap of faith and drop off the cliff to the right of the stubby platform, there's a series of small drops that lead you to the other glowing corpse that has the Cleric's set.
I should probably buy that 20K crest to unlock the door in Darkroot Garden. The forest gets so expansive and the only two fires I have in the area are the cliffside cave that leads to VotD and the blacksmith catacombs that leads back to the UP.
Found the forest covenant. There's this boss battle (sealed door with white light coming out of it, opened it, saw a barren arena, didn't want to trigger the fight with 0 estus) but does being a part of this covenant mean I can't engage the boss? I wasn't really sure about the riddle Alvina/the cat was mentioning. Basically I got, "abandon your pursuit of this guy, he doesn't exist (because I'm only a puppet and not the actual leader of the forest guild...)!"
You and me both. Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are the most exhilarating gaming experiences I've ever had.
For the PS3 people who played Demon's Souls first, though, we had a sense of understanding and an underlying appreciation of Dark Souls from our experiences in Boletaria. For the 360 people, they had the wonder, excitement, and fear of coming into a world that doesn't hold your hand. It's hard to say which of those experiences I would have preferred.
