Ah there, 1000/1000 GS. Only game that I've ever bothered to get them all just because it was fun. Time for a break I think, the last week and a half I've played it for 50-something hours lol.

new game+ is kind of boring especially since I don't really enjoy the second half all that much, I think I might restart from scratch

I DID IT. I BEAT DARK SOULS.

Personally, this has been one of my greatest gaming achievements. 68 hours, level 92. Poured almost all my souls into Endurance all the way through and relied heavily on pyro. Immediately restarted and breezed through the first two bosses (if the first "boss" really counts as a boss).

On my second playthough, is it possible to focus on another set of skills? Right now I have 16 Strength, and I just left Faith and Intelligence at 10. I haven't touched magic or sorcery at all and would like to play with them, but I'm wondering if the fact that those stats are so low will prevent me from ever bringing them up to a usable level. Once a pyro, always a pyro?

It's a better idea to start a new character if you want to try out a different skillset, otherwise you will just be grinding and pumping souls into levelling up with diminishing returns.

People tend to stick to the cut off point of SL120~ - I don't know why, it seems quite arbitrary, I guess it's about enough to put three main stats up to 35-40 range then a few others to mess around with. So it's usual to build a new character if you want to build a sorcerer, or strength build, or faith build whatever.

At lvl92, I'd put points into STR or DEX till you get up to 120-125 and keep your focus much the same, and start a new character for a sorcery or faith build.

My vita decided to be a dick and didn't post my reply. Long story short, my dad watched me play through Sen's, enjoyed looking out for traps for me, and laughed at my reaction to a certain bomb throwing incident. My souls are now in Anor Londo where I died via fall from beams. Something tells me I shouldn't have followed those messages up that narrow roof incline through the broken window.

You do need to go that way. Keep going.

Also, I think it's October 26th for DLC.

That is the way to go. One tip is use bows, none of the beam enemies have shields so headshots will push them off. Also always fight at the intersection of beams and make use of your kick.

Thanks. Should that be my first area to explore though? There's also the "pass through the brilliant light" up that path and I've yet to go beyond where that gargoyle knight was guarding.

Another question I had in my original post was is there anything below that ladder where the boulders pile up? Is there something to that black chasm beyond that boulder pile up?

Unless you went back to the Asylum or want some heavy armor, then no. Go through the light, beating the Gargoyle and turning a wheel will make it you don't have to go in the rafters again to get to the palace.

I beat the game with a 50 Faith character last night (SL ~87). I've been spreading the remaining levels into endurance, vitality, attunement, and some dexterity.

Is it worth investing any more in Faith? My favorite weapon is the Balder Side Sword (I have it up to +14). I was thinking of starting to build dexterity since this weapon has A scaling for dexterity, and I can buff it further with Sunlight or Darkmoon blade.

I also have an Occult Longsword for Faith Scaling. It seems the Faith scaling has pretty much leveled off.

I've finished Undead Parish, killed the Gargoyles and tried Depth, but the last boss is a big hedeache for me. I've returned to the first bonfire area (with the NPCs) and farmed the skeletons, since I discovered that I could now buy Pyro spells from the NPC I liberated. What should I do next? I have the Master Key, so I can access the Blight town, so I don't need to kill the Gapping Dragon. Should I go to Blight town or is there a better area for a SL25 Pyro?

The pile up? If you mean in Sen's Fortress, there's a place where boulders pile up until they're level with the corridor, then the next one smashes the wall. There's a REALLY useful ring in there.

Oh, didn't realize a wall was there. I did get the ring. Was it the serpent ring (easier to get item drops)? There's a ladder next to the pile up though. Was wondering what that was all about. That and the dead end overlooking a black chasm.

So how long is this DLC really? I'm hearing 40 hours, but that can't be right.
I've put 40 hours in when I was in Blighttown which seems not that far into the game in the grand scheme of things. I think I would take my time with the dlc as well, meaning that figure doesn't seem that unfathomable.

The ladder and the chasm is just a chance for people who like to slide down ladders to die.

Going to Blighttown the backway is your next step, but I'd give the gaping dragon another go. You miss half of Blighttown by using the back entrance (unless you do the whole area backwards and then homebone/backtrack), and there are quite a few nice items to pick up in the shantytown part of the area.

There are two NPC summons for the Gaping Dragon - admittedly Solaire is useless in this fight. But most people put down summon signs around the bonfire in the Depths, so I would give it another go. Put down your own summon sign and get in some practice as well as earning souls/humanity, since there is a pyro merchant in Blighttown you will want see. SL25 is just about right, so you should see summon signs/be summoned frequently.

Use pyro, spells or ranged attacks and stay behind the dragon, watching out for his swipes, stomping, a couple of rolls back will save you from those - if you do get the chance aim for his head though, it's a weakspot. When he lunges back and comes down, you get a chance for a good few swipes at the head before he reacts.

Also before you head to Blighttown, there is an item that comes in very handy for the swamp down there - it's just a short trip back to an area you've already beaten.

I'm about to head to the New Londo Ruins. Do I need a cursed weapon? Is there some other way to deal with ghosts? I have Sif's soul so I can make the cursed greatsword if I need to.

You can buy a transient curse from the lady undead merchant or pick some up on the way in. Transient curses are better than cursed weapons because you can block ghosts while cursed and use ranged attacks.

The SL120 seems to mostly come from Demon's Souls, of which the PvP community seemed to settle on that as the ideal PvP range.

a: Ensures lots of people are in that range and can play with each-other
b: Allows for diversity in builds, while not letting people have every stat maxed - sort of hit the sweet spot for end/vit - then focus on a damage-scaling stat
c: Somewhat quick to reach that level with efficient farming

Sorta carried over to DkS.

So how long is this DLC really? I'm hearing 40 hours, but that can't be right.

4-5 hours, depending on how hard of a time you have with the boss fights. The areas before them are fairly quick to explore - I know I got stuck on the 2nd boss for quite some time.

I'd spend an hour or two failing against him, then go beat another part of the non-DLC content, then go back - try again, rinse, repeat --- all in all it probably took me about 10 hours or so. But, I'm sure better players can power through it much faster, and my 2nd and 3rd characters also cleared the DLC much faster than my first.

I don't know what any of this means. As much as I love the game, I just haven't researched PvP or even how to fully maximize weapons and shards and whatever have you. I've seen people mention giving Frampt items to breakdown for you and someone above mentioned using a boss' soul to make a specific weapon. I would never know this while playing. Also, getting invaded isn't fun when you don't know the etiquette and haven't developed your character for pvp.

Starting a new character with high resistance - basically putting everything into VIT/END/RES only until I get to SL120. No idea what this will achieve - I'll take forever to bleed/poison/curse? I don't know.

Starting with a Deprived and equipped only with double causteus - just killed the metal boar in the Parish with a backstab that looked positively pornographic!

It's been a while but I finally managed to beat 4 Kings SL1 without upgrading any weapon/equipment.
I had to use my plan B though which is to kill the Giant Blacksmith and use his hammer. That alone transformed the fight from nearly impossible to easy mode.
I failed like 50 times so I had to use this technique, but it doesn't break my rule!

Anyway, behold Victory Achieved!

@Red Liquorice: that sounds funny but why do you waste points into resistance?

^ Unbelieveable, did you have any summons at all, or just solo and are you planning to go any further - to Gwyn?!

Since everyone says it's a useless stat, just wanted to build a trash character where the main stat to increase besides VIT/END was resistance to see what the result is, if any.

I did it solo. I always found this battle easier alone because the kings respawn faster when you have phantoms with you.
Of course I will continue. The hardest boss is done.
Right now I'm getting my ass kicked in the Duke's Archives because of these stupid crystal enemies. Big time!

Archives is probably my most dreaded area in the game. With low HP its easy to get oneshotted and the enemies are everywhere. Only place in the game where I still proceed with caution.

bitch I'm taking calls.
Right. But is that just your standard level or the number next to your health bar? Something else?
The number next to your health bar isn't related to souls at all. That's your humanity counter.

Your soul level is stated in the stats menu and you level up +1 each time you add a point to one of your attributes.

That's what I figured. I just find it odd giving your level a sort of title. Threw me for a loop. Thank you.

I knew it!!! when there is a will there is a way..I got that hammer ealry on but felt it was not any better than the Occult club! What gives?

Given the rather random incident of needing to completely fill up the character slots, I doubt the BB Glitch was intentional.

I personally do see its usefulness in making builds very fast for older players (and can even spice up run-throughs when considering you'll be able to speed past certain frustration spots and skip some areas that you really don't need to go to easily), but it is still such a shame that its primary purpose was to create low-level twink builds to camp out in the Burg.

I really don't think the BB glitch makes it that much easier to make low level twinks. It's main use is for 120 pvp builds since those would take much longer to make the old fashioned way.

With a low level twink, the only time consuming part is obtaining a weapon and upgrading it to fire/lightning. The BB glitch saves you on that part.

Go to the Parish in human form low level. It's been infested with glitchers for months now.
Sometimes I feel sorry for the new players who struggle in the level and get one shot by one of them.

When you open the gate to this kind of stuff there are good things that come from it and many will exploit it to cheat.
But whatever, the game will be patched next month.

Also if you play the PC version of the game they have already patched the BB glitch out since day 1. I know I saw a lot less low-level abusers in my two runs than on the PS3.

EDIT: Oops, sorry I thought I was in the prepare to die thread, forgot positive comments on the PC version were banned in this thread.

This is true.

What's just as bad are helper summons who cut through everything including bosses like butter - this doesn't help the host in the slightest.

Any time I've been invaded in Parish, I've always won and killed the invader through a little judicious use of skill. Anywhere else I get invaded, I always get outskilled and killed. I think that says something about the people camping the Parish.

You can't put all the blame on the BB. Its much easier to stay low level and get high end gear in this game. Picking up the spells requires doing a big portion of the game anyhow. Low level pvp and muling/duping are always going to exist, bb and dupe-glitch just let people do it without forum begging.

My best invasions have been in the burg cause that's where the majority of people are. In the rare occurrence that I wind up against someone alone and untwinked, its easy enough to port out or even drop a stack of red orbs / dung / humanity or whatever for them. It beats invading in the forest, Anor Londo, or Kiln since the chances of getting jumped are a lot less.

Just curious, when someone invades, how do you know if he BB glitched or not?

If you're fighting against a person that has a whole bunch of equipment/spells that you shouldn't have at the Parish. Granted, it could just be a person that went through the entire game at a low level but it's more likely they're using the glitch.

This is slightly off topic, but I'm looking for some advice. I've really enjoyed my time with Dark Souls, but it is time to move on. I have played through with two characters and one game of NG+.

The thing is I still really enjoy the game's mechanics. I just know where everything is and what to do. What are some other good RPGs and action RPGs on the 360? Is there another game to transfer to, or another great 360 RPG to try.

I've had my 360 for less than a year, so I've missed out on many of the games that came before.

Other than Demon's, nothing out there really plays or feels like Souls. You could always try King's Field or Shadow Tower though. I've also heard Dragon's Dogma is decent, and Mount & Blade and Severance are great games if you loved Souls.
