Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition’s Gen9 PC update makes the game worse

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition's new Gen9 PC beta update adds Shader Compilation Stutters to the game

Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and alongside this new release, THQ Nordic has released a new beta PC update. This update gives PC gamers access to the new Gen9 version of Darksiders II. This new version is supposed to feature ray tracing and improved lighting. Sadly, most aspects of this beta update are negative, at least right now.

Darksiders 2's new beta update moves the game to DirectX 12 and, as a result, has added Shader Compilation Stutters to the game's PC version. On PC, Darksiders 2 already suffered from traversal stutters. Now PC gamers have a new kind of stutter to also contend with. Additionally, while the game has some visual enhancements, the game's graphical options have no listed ray tracing options. Furthermore, players report that this update has not addressed many bugs from this game's original Deathinitive Edition. Others have also reported difficulties playing this version of the game using a gamepad. In short, this update causes more problems than it fixes.

GIven that the original game had multiple game-breaking glitches that could prevent you from advancing, I find it hard to believe it's that much worse.

Also I like how this thread is copy/pasting an article which itself is copy/pasting a Steam post. The web of aggregators is endless!

The dated controls had me bounce off before leaving the starting area. Having to hold the left trigger/L2 to remain locked on is awful game design in 2024. No option to make it a toggle either.

Ray tracing doesn't work and they still haven't addressed the myriad of gamebreaking bugs.

I tried the update and saw no difference whatsoever. It's great for console gamers who get 4K60, but for PC gamers, it adds nothing.

Console gamers likely don't get the stutter issues either.

Fucking DirectX12 ... what a mistake compared to DirectX 11..

People on the Steam forms are skeptical it's ever going to work correctly. The previous patch was in beta for years and was never released.

I don't remember having any issues with the game previously, but hey, give us an "update" nobody on PC needed to break it.

Modern developers are worthless.

I have tried to play it on pc and gave up. Fuck this shitty update man, its a fucking insult to players

I'm so gloriously happy I spent my money on a gaming PC... Keeps getting better and better.
This is why I don't emulate or play on computers. Console gaming is the only way to play videogames.
It's an optional beta. You have to opt in and they're testing DX12 because it will be needed for RT.

Had to wait over a decade to get it at 60fps on console, but you got the usual clown takes like this.

Who fucking asked you? I am saying that for a very powerful PC to get stutters is NOT what people who have paid large sums of money should be dealing with, optional or not.

Don't worry, your PC will hug you and keep you nice and warm at night. Sorry for ANY criticism of your beloved gaming device of choice.

Edit- I was playing 60 FPS games on my NES champ.

It's a beta, so they don't have to deal with it. "Optional or not" what kind of buffoonery is this? A beta is BOUND to have problems because that's the whole point behind it. You can opt in to test it, or you can not and keep your game running at 60fps, something that's been possible on mid-tier GPUs since 2012, but consoles now just got. Yet do you see me gloat about that?

And we see the true colors of a troll. You were pissing and moaning when I called you out for being one, yet here you are. You thought you were flexing, but you're being a clown again.

You keep calling me a troll if it makes you feel good about yourself. If you can't handle criticism over your gaming method of choice, I suggest you fuck off and stop responding to me, clown.

Except that it's not criticism, it's idiocy. You saw an occasion to shit on PC gaming because you're mad that you got scammed into paying $150 for a Windows license. Not anyone's fault but your own. There was no criticism or anything of the sort in your post. It was a troll drive-by post. Nothing else.

My apologies. Next time I want to "shit on PC gaming" I'll get your permission 1st. What a fucking baby. Crying over someone shitting on PC gaming! Some fucking people... seriously. Crying over a PC!

Shader Compilation Stutters
This has been an issue for years now. I don't buy the "budget" and "resources" argument anymore. This is pure incompetence. If you don't manage to resolve this issue within ANY budget or resources contraints, it's simply incompetence at this point.

The problem is the game, not the PC, ignorant. It's the same blaming consoles for 30fps games when it's devs fault/choice to mess like this.

It's a forum. Nobody has to ask him for his opinion, your post is public so he is free to respond to it. Like I'm doing now.

Don't like it? The block function exists for a reason. I don't use it myself, but warring nonsense like your previous post really tempts me.

Maybe he sold a kidney for his 4090? How dare you to shit on pc gaming?

I spent $150 on getting Windows 11 here in Australia (which is retail price for it) yet a 4090 is a fair price to pay for a GPU... In fact, ANY GPU is overpriced but I overpaid for Windows 11 so I am a troll.

I had a thought the other day. Obviously devs are testing the game many times internally, so it's reasonable that they are not seeing compilation stutter because the shaders have already compiled.

If true it would be funny if it wasn't so stupid 😂

If only could be installed for free... xD

It's literally a beta update why are you whining like it's final?
