Darksiders 2 is a masterpiece

Darksiders II is an incredible game that has aged remarkably well. With the recent next-gen update, it delivers a fantastic experience on consoles, though the PC version currently has some issues that are expected to be fixed soon, developers confirmed this on discord.

For me, this game is truly spectacular. The soundtrack stands out, with many epic tracks that enhance the atmosphere. Combat is tight and visceral with a lot of different combos and types of weapons, fantastic boss fights, a dark story, and intriguing lore. Death, the main character, is well written, and his voice actor is really good. I love his sarcasm throughout the game. The gameplay is excellent, with climbing, puzzle-solving, and exploration all mixed seamlessly. The Metroidvania elements, like unlocking powers and gadgets to access previously unreachable areas, keep the game fresh and engaging in my opinion. Despite its age, the art style has stood the test of time, and the world feels expansive, with numerous unique areas to explore.

The game feels like a blend of the classic God of War trilogy and Zelda. It’s a lengthy adventure, taking around 20-30 hours for completionists. If you haven’t played it, you’re missing out on a must-play action-adventure. The first game is great too, and while the third entry is the weakest, it's still a solid experience. But *Darksiders II is undoubtedly the best in the series, and a must-play for any action-adventure fan.

If I were to give a rating to the game it would be a 9 out of 10.

I remember not even finishing it, so I guess I would not agree..but I can't remember why

remember the first one dungeon design made me have a new appreciation for nintendo's zelda dungeon design

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
I remember it being very repetitive. Fun, but could have been way better.

Enjoyed the first, thought the second was even better. Shame they shit the bed with 3, I wasn’t too impressed with the isometric one either, though it was better than the third game.

The first two were great “Zeldas” I enjoyed them both more than Skyward Sword or Twilight Princess.

I liked the 3rd game. It had it's flaws but ultimately it was a good darksiders game and I enjoyed the endgame chapters. I did prefer the 2nd though and would have liked more of that.

The isometric coop game was unfortunately not something I managed to get into. I bought it on the Switch as that's where I play most of my co-op and it played poorly, and then got it again on Playstation on sale but couldn't bring myself to play through it. Something about it just felt half baked.

It's alright. I really liked it on a second playthrough years later too mostly because modern games are trash.
Haha, Funnily enough I also played it twice. I recall enjoying it better the 2nd time around too. I was reminded how fun playing as Death was. Traversing with him is just slick and fun.

Loved it enough to get the plat for it. I loved how everyone was scared and acknowledged death. It did a great job portraying just what it means to be the horseman of death. The combat is great especially when you get wrath and life steal on your blades. One of the few games that do a good job at portraying you as a true badass.

The only console for me was that, the story could have been more developed as well the areas. Exploration is good but I feel they could have done a better job expanding the world.

The game is good but honestly worse than every god of war game I have played.

A good 7/10

I started playing Darksiders 2 recently and I’m enjoying it a lot. I think I dropped it the first time due to a World of Warcraft addiction and DS2 seemed way too similar to me. Now, running around as a Forsaken collecting loot sounds fun again. Only took 15 years for me to be ready.

I’ll likely play the first game after this. A game some people say is even better.

Is it a Zelda clone like the fist game? Ive only played the first but plan on getting part 2. THQ Nordic is one of my favorite publishers.

Edit- NM, i jist noticed the zelda mention in your post. Very exctiting.

Yes but more open world. I think tendo definitely looked at this game while creating BotW.

I remember trying one of the games in the series, mainly because Zelda-like was being banded around, but I have no overarching memory of the game if I’m being honest, which isn’t a particularly endorsing.

Im definitely going to get to the re remaster by the holidays

I dont remember it being as Zelda like as part 1, but it's definitely the bigger, more open game. The whole weapon feeding system was cool too.

We need more Jesper Kyd soundtracks these days. I miss that guy.

The first half is really solid, the locations are fun to explore and the art direction is nice. I wasn't a fan of the loot focus but the actual combat was great, I don't know how well it holds up now but I remember back in the day thinking it had one of the better melee action based combat systems out of any western game.

The second half kinda sucks though, the locations become worse both in their visuals and design and it all just feels rushed and half assed. I remember reading some report stating that they apparently ran out of time and budget. I don't know if it's true but it definitely felt that way.

I just had that epiphany playing through and beating RE4 HD (2005). I hadn't played it in years, and forgot many of the story beats. It was a blast from beginning to end.

Best of the series, solid game, masterpiece is a big stretch

Iirc there were sizable stretches where the "open world" wasn't offering anything but trying to find your objective in mostly emptiness

It was a solid 7.5, and to me 7.5 does mean solid game worth a play

I liked the first one a little more, but the 2nd one wasn't too bad. I like the enemy designs the most. This one had at least 3 DLCs if I recall, maybe more? I did wish for a return to form ala the first game. I wanted to see want more abilities they could come up with.

loved both 1 and 2. Not played 3.

Did the remaster include the 100 level challenge platform? That was fun.

The trophy for travelling x amount of miles on the horse was stupid, considering you didn't get the horse till later in the game and you would never of travelled that far to begin with. Elastic band on the controller and a trip to my mothers for my tea solved that problem.

I enjoyed the third. I hope it gets a 60fps patch too.

This was one of those games that seemed like something I would love, but I just never got far into it without losing interest. Something about it was just ... boring even back then.
