DC Rebirth |OT| It's not a reboot, and it always was [SPOILERS for Rebirth #1]

I've kept up some with the mainstream Batman comic, but that's about it in terms of the Bat family. What's the deal with all the damn Robins? Shit is confusing, fam.

I like the Robins each filling a niche. Dick's the leader, Jason's the bruiser, Tim's the detective, Damian... well, Damian is just the True Successor, or he will be, eventually.

I know this is not the niche you meant, but they've definitely had a hard time finding a niche for Jason and Tim, though. Jason is the definition of shoehorned. Tim... well, I liked what they did with him when Bruce died, and I don't think having him as leader of TT was a bad move, but sidling him into Detective Comics as a side character feels a bit like that. I won't knock it till I've read it (and I'm sure it'll be good), but Detective feels like a book for the Batfamily characters they don't feel like they can justify having their own books, even though all of those characters had amazing solo series.

Also, past leader, Dick is also has the best combat ability and probably adaptive intelligence.

I dunno about adaptive intelligence, but I'd reckon that Jason could take him in a straight fight. Damian too, depending on the writer.

(Doesn't he actually beat him pretty badly during Death of the Family?)

I'm pretty sure Dick has mopped the floor with Jason on numerous occasions (at least once during Battle for the Cowl, possibly during Brothers in Blood in pre-Flashpoint Nightwing).

The one time I remember Jason winning [momentarily] was in Batman and Robin, and it wasn't a straight fight.

As for Damian, I think that's debatable. I don't remember them ever fighting except when Deathstroke was using Damian's body, and Dick won then.

Also, just for fun, Tim vs Damian:

Conclusion: a lot of it depends on the writers, but they usually hold to the hierarchy that the one with the most experience will win in an even fight.

How do people feel about the New 52 run featuring Wonder Woman? Want to get into it by grabbing a volume because Rucka is coming back (also don't want to wait lol) and wondering what people's thoughts are on her.

The Azzarello / Chiang run is one of the best books to come out of the New 52. Great story and art that modernizes the Greek pantheon in a believable way. Some people get turned off by Azzarello indulging his love of puns but overall its well worth reading

To add to this, he defeated Batman as well :>

Feel like I'm the only DC fan that doesn't read Bat stuff as much or more than the rest of the universe. I always had more fun with the team books or vertigo stuff than I did with just Batman.

I was happy that BvS still felt like a DC universe movie instead of just Batman.

Anyway I know someone was asking about New 52 Omni's, it looks like Manapul's Flash is being collected.

Hopefully I can jump in easy now. All I'm really interested in is The Flash, but I always feel like I'm missing out if i don't buy JL too, or anything else involving him.

Edit: Batman and Superman are the only other ones I'd consider too, but the same problem persists to an even bigger scale.

But why

Embrace it.

You're not missing much, John's JL is weird in it's focus, compared to his JSA run. I haven't read Darkseid War yet but his JL so far has been less character driven and more event driven if that makes sense. I can't recall anything notable that Barry has done. There's been a nice Cyborg story,Shazam origin, a nice Aquaman Story, and a nice Trinity/Lex plot line. Forever Evil was about villains.

The interactions between characters isn't really there for me, there aren't a whole lot of issues with reflection.

I'm like that. But that's because to me the main draw of DC (and the reason why to me it completely annihilates Marvel) is magical side. Batsy is fun (definitely more fun than typical DC superheroes to me), but even he just can't compare to glory of DC's magical side.

DC's magic side was great, I was hoping a big focus of rebirth would be improving that side. Now they're just down to Hellblazer.

Even though Rich Johnston is pretty much a clickbait blogger, I liked his idea that Vertigo would return to it's original 80's/90's incarnation, focusing on more obscure characters.

It's awesome, and volume 1 is a great encapsulation so it's well worth you trying that.

Your opinions suck, bro.

Quitely's art is trash, but his army of rabid supporters will go to great lengths to defend him, so it's basically a pointless discussion. I'm more surprised that a fellow comic book artist would riff off his style, or even look to him as an influence. You'd be better off tracing porn starts a la Greg Land.

But to respond in kind: opinion invalidated by your like of Valiant comics. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

And all of that took place in only 5 years. #Nu52Logic

I mean, that's basically whatever. I don't mind the compressed timeline. It's ridiculous, but I can think of a hell of a lot more insane stuff in comic continuity. DC's continuity in general seems like a trainwreck, but I'm far from an expert on it. Marvel isn't any better. Continuity, in general, gets tossed out the door for the big two after decades of tinkering, deaths and Rebirths (LOL), and whatever the hell Bendis or Johns are currently writing.

/lazy post

"You don't agree with my opinion!" does not equal shitposting. Sorry, but that's the epitome of a lazy response.

I can't justify Quitely's Potato Head, completely interchangeable characters with talk about flow, or panel work, or sense of action. Great! A million other artists nail all that stuff, while not drawing the characters that look like complete shit. The Superman/Clark Kent slouch picture is a perfect example. Look at this completely unrealistic hunchback, that's Clark Kent! And Supes stands all tall like!

Here are examples of how bad his art can be:

Emma and Jean are exactly the same face. Jean is a 60 year old grandmother. Wolverine and Professor X are twins. Everyone is Asian.

Disliking Quitely's art is an opinion.

Preferring Greg Land's is a shitpost.

Sorry, not gonna move on that.

There's a reason it's always the same New X-Men stuff that is posted when this discussion happens.

I want to see people shitting on Quitely's work with a straight face while posting pages from We3, Batman and Robin, All-Star Superman, Flex Mentallo...

Johns is cowriting the Rebirth issue and I refuse to believe it can be as bad as the garbage Venditti has been spewing for the past three years.

I do prefer Greg Land's art?

Greg cranks out a lot of traced trash, as well, but I vastly prefer his final output over Quitely's.

Yeah, no. Not acceptable behavior. Quitely's had some bad panels, but Land has had stuff that's even worse, AND he's a damn tracer.

All Star Superman. Nothing even resembling a human face to be seen!

Batman and Robin. Did you know that Batman was Lex Luthor in a mask? Did you know that Catwoman is Lex Luthor in a mask?

Flex Mentallo (WTF is up with that poor boy's face?!?)
tqT6nBw.jpg

We3 works because it completely negates Quitely's inability to draw a human face, as you have animals instead. Hell, lots of the panels even feature human necks but cut out the face at the top of the panel. It's Rob Liefeld avoiding feet all over again. When Quitely does put a face in a panel, they suck as usual:

Look at this.

LOOK AT HER ARRRRRM

I've seen all those. They are terrible. Those are the Greg Land tracing sins we all have to put up with year after year. No idea how he still gets work other than being quick and friendly. Still better than Quitely.

De facto yes. it's explained as some martial arts BS allowing her to predict movements, but for all intents and purposes it acts as a superpower, since it allows her to do crap like dodge bullets at point blank range.
She had that taken away and was given actual speech, and then had to be retrained by Shiva in order to bridge the gap in her fighting abilities from where they used to be to where they were after she got her speech.

And even with her "power," she fucked up.
Magic swords were OP as fuck.
This is true

I miss pre-DeMatteis Justice League Dark

No. Quietly's faces are garbage and I dislike them passionately, but at least Quietly's art is fun to read. Land is boring as fuck. He does nothing interesting.
