Alfred was always a former military guy and it never made sense for him to be portrayed so frail like. The versin makes him look like a former member of S.A.S. like Captain Price from Modern Warfare or something.

Also, the first Batman arc will feature a brand new villian created from scratch.

Edit: I just realized that the suit he's wearing is very Arkham Asylum-ish.

I suppose I fit into their demographic: Former comic book kid who grows up and is so lost in the new stories he would like to just start over fresh.

I loved the first Ultimate Marvel series before I quit comics, so I'm looking forward to this.

I guess I don't understand why American comic book companies just smash the Reboot button whenever they run out of storylines to milk.

Do the Japanese not? I seem to remember quite a few reboots...

Or are we talking about the countries with decent comics?

It's hard to reply when you answer your own question.

EDIT: Alfred with a goatee, lol.

Wasn't this what the All-Star books were supposed to be?

No the all-star line was a poorly thoughtthrough idea to create iconic versions of the charecters with NO continuity. This is basically a fresh start for the DCU very similar to what DC did in the 80s after Crisis on Infinite Earths and what Marvel did 10 years ago with Ultimate Marvel. The current DCU has gotten so bogged down with absurd storylines and retcons that its time for a clean slate.

Japanese reboots? They almost don't exist.

Well, he's old, and physically demanding careers like the military can be pretty hard on a guy.

this.

I will be for it.
I just hope when the format gets popular the pages will not start thinning out (ex: Marvel's compilations)

I was trying to figure why Batman looks so weird in that picture, then I realized it's cause he's no longer wearing underwear over his pants. Then I realized I had been staring at Batman's crotch for over a minute.

Thread title is misleading, they're not doing away with the "old" DC Universe. Just creating a new standalone 'verse for the casuals to get into.

If it puts asses in the seats, so to speak, then I'm all for it.

They're not THAT rare, are they? Devilman springs to mind almost immediately.

JMS on Superman should be interesting. Has Johns ever actually written a Batman book? I can't think of any off the top of my head, and he seems like the only one who hasn't. All I know is that no matter what happens, the villains will be awesome in it.

This trend of bi-yearly graphic novels instead of monthly issues, is that new? It makes a lot of sense to me.

It's a fairly new concept made popular by Vertigo and Marvel (who have found over the past decade that way more people were buying graphic novels rather than monthlies). To me paperbacks are alot better because you dont have to go to the comic store every month and pay $4 for a single issue that you'll forget about by the time the final issue of that story comes out and also it is more accessible for the mass market since these are available in almost every bookstore and library whereas for single issues you usually have to find a comic shop. Paperback collections tend to be cheaper than purchasing issues individually as well so this is definetly economical.

I demand a Justice League: Earth One by Grant Morrison and Bryan Hitch.
If I were a betting man, Id wager it is probably going to be the rumoured Goeff Johns and Jim Lee Justice league

Just saw this on CBR, looks like the new Bat suit resembles WIzards hypothetical "ultimate" DC designs from several years back

DC is finally using it's multiverse for something potentially good! I'm really looking forward that Batman by Johns and Frank. Not feeling the art for Superman though.

Green Lantern Earth One by Morrison! Anything Earth One by Morrison! MOAR Morrison!

It's really intriguing to me as someone who is into the characters and universe but hasn't ever picked up any of the comics aside from some trade paperbacks here and there.

Here was their concept for Supes

Ugh. That Batman looks fugly with the oval. Wrong style for the oval, IMO. But Superman looks awesome.

As a person who hasn't read a comic from Marvel/DC since the Onslaught Saga and who's only read Watchmen since then, this looks pretty good. I may pick these up.

Looks cool, I haven't really got into mainline Superman or Batman comics before.

The two trades a year concept is really nice, hopefully this lets then tell nice standalone stories in each book.

Really? Superman looks awful, like some random jrpg character in a superman costume. Batman is only slightly better. Alfred is the only interesting design of the three.

I'd been hoping that DC would do this for a while!
I've always had a mild interest in Batman due to my love of the Burton and Nolan movies along with TAS.
I had dabbled in the odd Batman graphic novel, but was hoping that DC would launch an Ultimate type line so that I could follow the character from some sort of origins tale onwards.

First impressions are that it certainly looks and sound interesting.
I never though I'd say this but I actually think Superman looks better than Batman for once (character design wise). I've always thought that Superman looked dorky, and kind of dislike the character in general, but they've done a great job with him here.
The Batman design is OK but the bottom half of him looks very strange. Kind of has a funny shape about him? The Wizard design that Dead posted looks a lot better, and if I'm honest, I think they should have copied the bat suit from the Nolan movies a much as possible.

Other than that I'll def be keeping my eye on this series. and so long as it reviews well, and doesn't screw with the characters origins and characteristic too much, I think I'll read it.
One of the things that always put me off Ultimate Marvel is that they screwed with some of the characters TOO much. I appreciate that the point is to update them for modern times, but from what I'd read some of the characters seemed to be messed with just for the sake of messing with them.
Great idea to just release them as trades as well. I've tried to get into comic books in the past but never really visit comic stores, and hate that monthly comics are usually so goddamn short. They're over before I've even got going!

Maybe they’ll do Flash, Green Lantern, and Wonderwoman next!

Aside from the gold on Batman, I'm digging it. On one hand I'm sort of glad we're getting a reboot, current continuity is awful and I've lost interest in it. On the other, I'm reminded of All Star. Blech.
