Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate |OT| The ninjas are free; the swimsuits are not.

lol not seeing it. There's sunlight spots on them sometimes, but moving the camera shows the light to move, too, so it's not what I want it to be.

Bums me out that it'll cost over $110.00 to get all the costumes for this game (just picked it up).

Hope there will be a sale sometime.

Man, I have some free time after a few busy weeks, I'm done with the PS4 for now and I'd really like to play DoA5 Ultimate... but I just can't justify spending €40 on an expansion (+€15 DLC). And I keep thinking 'this is the week they announce a PS4 version'. If I blow my money now, I won't be getting the PS4 version when it comes out, if it comes out. Gah! What do you think is more likely, DoA5 PS4 or just DoA6 some time in the future? Also, is it still possible to get a game online? Has the matchmaking improved since DoA5 Vanilla, where there were plenty of people and it just didn't work?

On the bright side, that photo conversion thing is fantastic. I love taking pictures, and have shot with a DSLR on and off for almost 5 years now, with some great wildlife pictures and waterports (kitesurfing, not porn, lol) action shots too. Going to africa with my camera in april. So I really love being able to go back and do the photo mode again, knowing there's a way to export them.

That said, I really hope that in the next one they do the photo mode properly. The basics:
1. You can pause any single player match and go into the photo mode. Crucial if you spot an interesting moment or pose. The PS4's screenshot function is NOT up to the task. I hope it's patched to make it better, but TN has to assume it won't be.
2. The photo mode uses the highest level of detail model possible at all times, which it can get away with as the rest of the 'game' is suspended.
3. Additional AA is added when you take the picture, or the picture is created at a higher level than 1080p and then downsampled. Either would be cool. If you want to avoid the extra time this processing would take, you can disable it.
4. The picture is output to the hard drive in a normal file format.
5. Much more control over the 'camera'. In particular, the ability to focus the depth of field properly using the aperture. As it stands, the entire character currently focused on must be in focus at all times, even if the background and foreground are affected by the aperture change.
Bonus. The ability to take photos of moving action with shutter speed options. Could produce some really cool things, but would be a ludicrous amount of work technically to get the effects right.

Basically, make it more like Gran Turismo's mode. And every game should have one. Everybody's Golf, in particular, would be perfect for a photo mode.

It's a bit underexposed, but this one made me laugh; it's Hitomi showing a tiger who's boss. I must be the only one who loves that costume.

Well, I crumbled and bought it.

Working through the combo challenges and command training now, getting back into it. As fun as ever.

Doing some of the tougher combos, I can see why people say a stick is necessary for some fighters - DoA isn't exactly technical, but under pressure in a long 12 move combo I'm finding that down-right times 2 (aka 33) comes out as 23 every time. I have fat thumbs, I guess. Very frustrating.

I also wish there was a better way of telling you where you went wrong, or what you pressed and when. You can do the precisely correct string of commands needed for a long combo, but without the right timing there's 5-6 errors in there. The list at the bottom shows you what you pressed, but not where you got the timing wrong.

It's nice to go through Hitomi's, though, and notice that I already use a bunch of these. Then again, she's as basic as they come! That's why I like her.

Any hints for beating Legendary and 100 man survival? You used to be able to cheese it with Leifang but they seem to be wiser to her tactics in Ultimate. I made it to the 7th stage without dying after 3 attempts just playing normally so I should eventually manage it but if there are some tips or exploits to make that part faster I'd love to hear them.

In Ultimate you don't need to finish survival for the trophy if you want, you can use Lisa to finish the 100 challenge, you can find it on YouTube.

Ah, that's a good point. The 100 man thing was the one thing I never did in DoA5 Vanilla. It shouldn't have been 4 sets of 100-man fights. Too long. Got to the 80th guy using Lisa's combo trick and lost. Raged, and moved on. Got better things to do with my time.

Going through the tutorials and playing a bit, I have to say I really like some of the changes they've made to the gameplay. Especially sit down stuns and the way you can bounce someone and keep a combo going etc; and the new power launcher is fun as well. I'm impressed.

I just wish Kassie's taunts were more varied. Her new ones added are all the same, just saying different things and they are far too slow to get in. I was looking forward to what taunts they were gonna add to her, but was disappointed they were all the same animation. I wanna see a bit more personality in her, some cockiness or teasing.

I like one of her new win poses where she says with a bit of arrogance, "You will never defeat me." Would love to have heard a bit of that as a taunt.

No taunt is better than "Give up"to rub the salt in.
Mila slaps her ass and that is fine. Momiji with her trolly "How very good!"

Yeah, Give Up/No Way are good trolly phrases. She just takes too long to spit them out and it's a shame it's all the same animation. I sometimes forget which input is which phrase, too.

That was good but it's better to use 6K2K than 6KK, and after 4K you can get a guaranteed launch (4K, or 4P+K).
Don't you think it's time to use CB combos and BT PP4PP8K? ;)

Well, after 20 minutes trying to do that stupid 'startup' tutorial i read back in the thread and it has been patched to be impossible. For fuck's sake. And it clearly was impossible, too.

Now I guess I've got to go and find out how to remove updates.

Also, are throwdowns region restricted? I've been doing a bunch of training and arcade mode but never had a throwdown. Got lots after a certain update in Vanilla, so it's weird not to get any here. Then again, it is 4am here in Ireland.

i know in vanilla they were region restricted, which sucked. they use a broader region in this version afaik. i can get invites by neighboring countries now.

I am just coming off a break from doa and I was shocked to see I won that one. Must be because he's used to mashing and never fought Ayane.

Orpheus Telos did you make gaf proud at winter brawl?

No :(

My first match went ok I thought. I did lose but it was pretty close so I was still feeling ok. Then the next match came and I just got locked down big time by a Lei Fang player. It was a pretty soul crushing experience, I was really hoping to do a bit better than that. I'll just have to try and redeem myself at the next tournament.

I hopped online yesterday, and had a hell of a time. I'm really not great, but I enjoy it regardless. Went on a 16 fight winning streak with Tina until another Tina kept stopping all my throws. Somewhere at a C-, I have more fun with playing in different outfits than actually caring about winning!

I keep meaning to pick up an Arcade stick too, but maybe in time. I've also spent so much more time with DOA5+, just because of how convenient it is to play while on trains.

I play fighting games to fight other people. Playing DoA may as well be masturbatory for all the good it does me for competition. Especially when online is barely what I'd call competent.

The Online worked for me quite well. I can get some solid matches. SF4 has been hell for me because skill gulf is too large and lobbies have become pointless for me. Ultra will fix some of those issues, right now it's not worth my time jumping in SF. Blazblu give me a better time than sf :p

I have no real problems with DOA5U online. It's much, much better than vanilla DOA5 was. Generally play in lobbies and search using the nearest location option. When I do enter a match and it's laggy enough to cause problems, I play it out and then exit. Happens in all games.

Always LOL when hate mail comes after that, too-

- "WHY U QUIT?! U SCARED!!!!!"
- "Why do you want to keep playing in a match with connection quality that bad?"
- "WHAT IT WAS FINE THERES NO LAG U SCURRED"

I don't really play with randoms. Online has been a crapshoot for me in this game. I tried playing with Orpheus and we had a stable connection hindered by severe lagspikes. That's the best luck I've had with anybody on GAF for this game (although the others I played with were apparently in the UK) I have an awesome connection with several friends in stuff like P4A, SF4, TTT2, SC5, and it's barely playable in this game. Even if it is playable, it's not good enough to punish. Lag makes holds come out at the wrong time. If I do hold, it doesn't come out when I do it, but the input is already there, so it comes out later when I wouldn't have wanted it. 9frame jabs can be thrown out with impunity. Playing Tina (or any other grappler, I'd imagine) is stupidly risky. I can't approach anything in this game the way I do a match offline, which isn't the case in most fighters I play online now.

It's adequate, but I wouldn't call it good. Anything would be better than DoA5. That was just an abomination.

Hope that they get their shit together for DoA6.

Problem with DOA's code is your connection has to be good if it is sub par in any respect then it's shit. I have fios so I get good online games on any online.

Where do you live? I'm on the east coast. Have had some really good connections and have played against some fantastic grapplers online. One guy in particular was destroying everyone with Bass...it was a work of art. But yeah, any kind of lag creeps up and grapplers definitely feel like they can have a disadvantage. Same with holds although I'm used to that after playing Soul Calibibur IV and V online, lol.

I think the difference is that I typically only play online at this point, so I'm used to lag.

That could be it. I play primarily offline, so bad lag effects me more. But I have no problem with the majority of other fighters now. I just think the way DoA handles masking lag is terrible.

I'm in Colorado.

I would probably have to use one character offline and another only online if I did both regularly. In general I can just adjust pretty well, although I also don't play in tournaments.

You will have to explain why how some have a good time and others don't. I find SF4's net code kinda more slapdash but that's just my timing.

connection in this game is fine for me if my parter is "near" and on wired connection. wireless kills all the precision you need in fighting games, it's not different here. at best you have messy fight. at worst you will have the finest underwater fight. sadly, i had plenty of those in this game.

Could be that I notice it more because of how I play. I don't see you going for punishes very often in your videos. YOu play a ranged game and netcode wouldn't really switch up how you play. Now if I were playing you, I wouldn't be able to punish obvious gaps or backturned moves because of lag. I KNOW this because it has happened constantly. You'd get away with stuff because of lag (which might be why you continue doing certain things in your videos. THey're super hard/near impossible to punish online). I don't have any problems doing 1-frame links in SF4 online. I can play Ibuki and do Sako combos under good conditions. Playing the SAME person in DoA, the connection is absolute garbage. I can't counter, I can't punish, I can't do anything I would normally do. I have to change the way I play the game. I main Tina. I'm close to an A- rank (might have gotten it, I forget). I know how to play and can adapt to the lag, but I never feel like how it plays out shows a display of skill on either end.

Anyway, I'd like to play more DoA, but since pretty much every other fighter out has better netcode, and more comp locally, I find it hard to justify putting time into it. It's super fun and I love the game, will continue to support it and if anybody on GAF wants to play a few games I'd definitely be down, but I'm usually playing something else if I have the time.
