Dead Rising 3 created "to go after the Call of Duty player"

it's easier to market old IP than new IP I guess.
yeah this abomination is not real Dead Rising game, I'm not sure why Capcom keep doing this to their poor IPs.
Like I have said it would have sold better with the Resident Evil name slapped on.
So why bother with the Dead Rising name if the game is closer to that much more popular series?

Okay, a quick search revealed the following...

Seems someone read this and jumped the gun which led to a lot of us also jumping the gun. It's unconfirmed as of yet, but the wording and lack of confirmation of psychopaths suggests they may not return.

Will wait for confirmation before commenting on it again, but the signs don't look particularly in favour of psychopaths returning.

I guess we'll see.

Like a father doing anything to save his little girl from the virus she is infected with?

Oh wait, that was dead rising 2. Really funny story huh?

That's not the story in itself, that's the premise.

You can have a very "serious" premise for a story, but have a lot of ridiculous thing happening on it, making the story funny.

Then you know the story in the first and second game had plenty of strange humor in it.

Of course. Just saying that just because the story seems dark doesn't mean there won't be humor in the third.
My favorite might of been the crazy cannibal chef

crisis averted.

I mentioned that in my GameSpot write-up. They said that they want to have their cake and eat it to. I question whether trying to appeal to everyone could possibly work. How can you balance something like that? It's like The Simpsons quote, "So, you want a realistic, down-to-earth show... that's completely off-the-wall and swarming with magic robots?"

It was on the Gamespot Livestream, I'll post a link later when its on the Gamespot site.

Good interview, the Gamespot guy was actually asking some tough questions.

He asked him directly if they were trying to westernize the game and told him that the last time Capcom did that RE6 happened.

The guy from Capcom basically said that they weren't trying to westernize the title. The increased 'grittiness' and 'visceral' graphics were only to increase the humor.

What?

That's one aspect of the Dead Rising 2 story

The other part is a stage announcer of a zombie-killing reality TV show is planning a heist of Vegas banks with the help of his femme-fatale twin assistants and at the end of the game you fight him with a moose head and fireworks while he beats on you with a stage mic.

RE6 was some 600 staff abomination that sold 6 million copies. Seems like buying a numbered RE would be kind of expensive.

Hell, DR2 opens up with an episode of said TV show where you ride around in a motorcycle strapped with chainsaws and try to mow down as many zombies as you can for points.

I have a hard time believing something like that will be the opening for DR3.

What?

I think the idea is push the super serious nature with intense graphics and a realistic setting, sprinkled with craziness that makes you laugh. The early stage stuff going through buildings n the dark was really awesome with its darker tone, then you have the Hammer/Blade throw thing and everyone laughs.

Can't agree with this. In the theater demo, developer controlled, all the Dead Rising quirks are still there. In the Safe House there are ridiculous outfits like a woman's dress and shark costume. Tons of useless items are still there to toss at zombies. The weapon combinations are well done and have a lot of variety. Music changes depending on which store or area you're in. The tone is a bit more realistic but the theme is still over-the-top zombie destruction. Have 1 and 2 and this feels all Dead Rising to me.

Hope this doesn't turn out to be a focus-tested wallflower title at launch. When I saw this game at the conference all I could think about was FUSE.

Good. I'm all for it.

What? I'm not going to buy it. They can do whatever they want with it, I'd rather they made it less appealing. Makes my decision not to buy an Xbone that much easier.

I'll believe it when I see the next trailer.

Watching now, don't know if it contains any new info.

Watching now.

1) Nightmare mode planned for hardcore players. Harder than DR1. Save in washrooms only. Time limit is closer to the 3 day limit speed.

2) They have some Capcom Easter-eggs in the game.

3) Saving is done via checkpoints and seamless in the background for all players unless they choose (1)

4) Online co-op only. SmartGlass App can be played local.

5) Big fans of the Banana-Hammock. :D

6) Customized Combo weapons.

7) Bigger world. Can fit DR1 and 2 into DR3 and still have space. All hand crafted.

8) Horror First, Comedy Second. If you want a serious zombie game, it is there. If you want the goofy DR fun you can dig and find it all around. The more you dig, the more ridiculous it gets.

9) Leveling system totally revamped. Was automatic, now you choose where to spend points. Skill points and attributes ahoy. Can make tank like characters, or melee weapon guy etc. More accurate with guns etc if you want to go that way.

10) Big surprises when you hit lvl 50. Insane stuff.

Will post more...

11) Combo weapons have blueprints that list what you need but if you level into certain categories, you can start to combine any weapons. Example given was if you needed a Broadsword and a Katana for a blueprint, if you level up your blade skills, you could combine any bladed weapon since items fall into set categories. That means you could combine a Broadsword and Chef's Knife if you wanted. Gradually means you could spec and combine any items to built weird stuff.

12) World has weapons lockers. Instead of crafting and possibly breaking weapons, anything you craft appears in the locker.

13) As above, you also have a clothing locker. Gives you an idea of how much stuff there is to unlock also.

14) SmartGlass can be used to hunt out objects and places and you select them on the App and they appear as waypoints in the game. Extra missions given over the App's NPC voice.

15) Don't have to stop and pick up items. Can run past and the interact icon will appear. Can be done with food. :D

I don't know. That hardcore mode sounds great to me.

I get the feeling it won't be as well designed as the previous Dead Rising Story modes though. The best thing about 72 hour mode was how, as you went along, you would run into certain events that only occurred at certain times, or be notified that something was happening, and get to check it out.

If the main game is now limitless, I don't see how they would make the timed events work for a hardcore mode.

They mentioned something about different endings and also having to save people as you progress, something that was going to be harder in Nightmare mode.

COD huh? That explains shit graphic then.

Come on. A lot of people (myself included) aren't too happy with the shift in tone, etc but the visuals were easily some of the best around for a world that's as big in scope and populated with as many NPCs as DR3.

Okay, still some annoying changes, but it's starting to sound better with this info.

I hope they confirm psychopaths are in, wouldn't be a DR if there weren't psychos littered around the game world. Make them into crazy LMOEs or something, just make sure to include them.

The locker idea sounds good, but it also removes some of the tension from the game One of the more interesting aspects of DR was that you could only use what you could carry and you had to make sure you had space for health items, weapons as well as magazines that helped boost stats.

Not liking the change, the clothes locker makes sense, but the weapons locker seems like a bad decision in the long run.

They said more variety in Zombies but did not say anything in regards to human bosses. I think they would be crazy to have a massive open world and not have some more crazy humans running around.

Yeah, I guess the one side is that you could ignore the locker and just concentrate on what you have. I think degrading and weapon braking is in but the locks sounds a bit like insurance. No idea if this is also around for Nightmare mode.

More zombie variety is very welcome, I hope they expand on the night time super zombies aspect too. I wouldn't mind some ferals in this after playing SoD, would add a lot of tension when exploring. Perhaps some big bastards too to make driving around more challenging.

I guess I have to see the locker system in action, but as it stands, it sounds good in theory but I'm not sure how well it will be work in practise. Combining any two weapons is something I've wanted from the moment they introduced crafting in Case Zero, so that's very welcome news.

I am somewhat more optimistic after listening to the developer chat and the info above (I actually missed some info), so let's see where they go from here.

Thanks again for the info, Raide. Should help to alleviate some of the concerns fans of the series have.

Will the "Kill Counter" be returning? I didn't see it in the demo I watched.

I feel really unsure about "Nightmare Mode." The thing I like about Dead Rising are the crazy scheduled events that you encounter. The way the game encourages replays makes you memorize the game's schedule and plan out your route. If Nightmare Mode is just "You have three days to beat the game," then that's a huge bummer. Also, an increased difficulty is not really something I want. It's okay if it starts out hard, but what I love about Dead Rising is that once you level up and start collecting the insanely overpowered weapons (which I hope DR3 will have, as DR2 was lacking in those), the difficulty is negligible.

Hmm. Outside of Forza and the really limited Ryse play through I read about none of these "Launch Titles" seem ready

Yeah, pretty surprising how few gameplay vids and hands on previews there are of these games compared to the various gameplay vids/hands on previews of PS4 launch/near launch titles.

Game was running at like 20fps and still dipping during the dev demo. Really hope they fix it (along with a dozen other things) before November. The game did not look appealing at all. At least I got a free hat out of it.

Was this the same demo as the one shown at the conference? I assume it was based on the previews I've seen so far, but I figured I'd ask for the hell of it.
