Dead Rising 3 created "to go after the Call of Duty player"

Capcom is pointedly trying to appeal to a wider audience in this latest iteration, saying it's going after the Call of Duty player. Gone is the cartoonish visual design, replaced by a more "realistic" interpretation of a viral apocalypse. That change is part of the maturation. By shifting the art style, the combat can be "more visceral" than in previous versions, with "real gore."

FUSE'd

Interesting sales tactic. I have the feeling that the Call of Duty player will probably be too busy playing Call of Duty to notice.

The lack of any real motivation to proceed is what struck me about the game from the outset. They need to give this game to Undead Labs at let them handle it from here on out.

I hope so and I admire your optimism. I guess I have been a little too hard on DR3 without knowing a lot about the game, but that quote along with the footage threw me for six and has me on edge after what's happened to some of my other beloved series this generation.

I'll keep an eye on any developments with DR3, but I'll certainly be keeping my guard up until they've shown the game still retains everything I loved about DR1, DR2 less so.

Did you notice the buffet in the E3 trailer? It had a giant sign reading "24 Hour, All-You-Can-Eat!", dangling above a sea of zombies. There was humor in the trailer, but it was subtler. I'm surprised more people didn't see it

Maybe DR3 will have a more subdued sense of humor. I would appreciate it, but it looks like other people might not.

Yup, sucked the fun out of the series.

No Psychos, no costumes, no fun environments, not a Dead Rising.

Woah woah woah, link?

I know I mentioned this is the State of Decay thread but anyways...Dead Rising 3 with weapon crafting and coop from the second playing on hard mode with a timer. There's going to be less loading and a further improvement on the escorting when you switch zones. Hopefully there just isn't any loading at all. By the time I had played the game over and over I was already so used to travelling through zombies that I was able to enjoy the game with all of the goofiness. It was on replays that the mega man blaster became a reality and I was no longer worried about the timer so I'm not worried about them making hordes of zombies more dangerous than the clock in the corner. Dark Souls is also a game that rewarded players who played through sections multiple times to level up but did not have to rely on a timer so I'm not worried about whether they can make a challenging and rewarding game. Worst case scenario you turn on the clock and hard mode leaderboards will be the place to show off.

They made it sound like that kind of stuff would be in there, but missable.

Yeah, that was my impression. Capcom said you'd be able to play the game completely serious if you want. It was impossible to play Dead Rising 2 completely serious. I have no idea how they're going to balance these very different play styles.

I got every achievement in every single DR title released on the 360. I will not buy DR3 anytime soon, maybe when it's 5 dollars just to see if it's any good on its own. Unfortunately, this game will likely succeed because people prefer simple, soulless 'epics' over quirky and fun games.

Absolutely love that there's no Time limit anymore.

One of the things I hated abut the original. Now just confirm they've fixed the save system.

You and me both. I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this now. The gameplay video looked fun to me and that's really all I care about.

I forget where I heard it but they have. It autosaves like most games. The nightmare mode requires you to use the bathrooms still though but I don't think thats for you (time limit).

"More visceral" with "real gore," eh?

I don't know what's funnier, the joke or the fact that it probably wasn't intentional.

The time limit was stressing, but it was also the only challenge to the game bar some broken boss fights.

It made me play Dead Rising 2 multiple times to improve my runs after I leveled up Chuck. Without it the game would be a lot more boring.

I don't really like the series but at least it used to have charm. This new stuff looks boring and unoriginal, especially considering the slew of other zombie games out there. Plus, they still have that damned time restriction crap. I would've loved DR2 more if I could just explore everything at my own leisure/pace.

pretty much

It may be a huge, easy to please fanbase, but at some point these publishers need to figure out that the COD fanbase WANTS COD. Are you making COD? No? Then stop appealing to them at the expense of fans that bought your games in the first place!

I will simply never know why no pub is able to settle for being B-tier. B-tier sells. B-tier gets rabid fans. B-tier has maneuverability. You don't want to be in the AAA-tier. It's shitty up there. Sure, a small fraction of the publishers make serious bank, but the rest live and die by razor-thin profit margins. This is like being the last guy to arrive at a gold rush.

Amen.
Everyone knows this and can see it. Why can't the suits? Blinded by dem profits?

Fucking idiots.

Apologies if that comes across too harsh, but this is literally the worst possible thing you could tell me about a new game.

Did you play Off the Record? There is a sandbox mode where you could explore without time limit.

if it ain't CoD... IT AIN'T COD...

you can try your best to copy them, but it never works.

i'm ok with copying a controller layout, but keep the game true to itself. you're not going to turn water into wine and start selling millions more just copying CoD. the game still has to be good

I was kind of unhappy to see DR3 as an exclusive on a console I'm not buying, but this news makes me feel like I might not be missing out on much.

It was those damn used games! Everyone picked it up secondhand and now we have to have mass layoffs.

Oh wait.....

Capcom's style is more, "Well, it seems like there isn't much demand for Dead Rising games, so we can't justify making anything else in the series. However, if enough people buy this cell-phone spinoff and make their voices heard..."

Have they confirmed whether the level up system is still in the game? Hopefully we can still run atop their heads to traverse large crowds.

By Call of Duty player, I assume they mean the people who play multiplayer? Or the single player type? There are 2 kinds.

Apparently, a huge number of people buy CoD for the sole reason of single player, according to one of the developers or something like that.

So, that's the single player type -- the person who wants to enjoy an adventure of sorts.

Then there's the multiplayer type, the one who enjoys the competitive nature of games. They enjoy competing against other people.

How does this game fit either of these 2 scenarios? It's going to be an MMO type of open world game, where people fight against zombies and perhaps other players. It won't be a first person shooter, or have a heavy focus on competing against other players.

Oh, and of course, they won't abandon the old fans! Even though it's nothing like the previous games that fans enjoyed.

It's more of a co-op sandbox game, like Saints Row with zombies.

I wish I could find a .gif expressing that I wash my hands of this franchise.

How about "EJECT!"

I've never liked Dead Rising simply because of its mechanics but the one thing I've always liked was that it was quirky and crazy. The only appealing aspect about this is that it's a big city but at the same time I remember how annoying the zombie island was in SR3 so this will probably be more annoying.
