Dead Rising 3 created "to go after the Call of Duty player"

no time limits would be awesome

fuck stuff like that in games, there supposed to be for fun

no fun stressing out all the time about running to areas to not miss quests

wost part of DR1

The time limit was a major component of what I thought was fun about the Dead Rising series.

OH NO WE ARE IN CONFLICT NOW! Maybe "fun" means different things to different people..?

Hmmm.. Am I the only one who saw the original article and thought "ok this is a bad and pretty exaggerated review based on a demo"?

I mean, seriously go and read the original "review"

Why do you think it's a review? I watched the developers play a demo, asked them questions, and wrote an editorial. They want to "have their cake and eat it too" (their words) by trying to appeal to everyone. I don't think that strategy has ever worked, and I'm disappointed that they're changing what makes Dead Rising unique.

Here's an idea go after the Dead rising player base first!!!

They did. They called it Dead Rising even though it has no business being called that with the sole purpose being to grab Dead Rising fans who will buy it just because it has that name.

Oh thank god, I was worried there was going to be an xbone exclusive that I'd actually regret missing. Good to know they're gutting the property instead. I hope it fails and they're forced to actually be creative next time around. If enough wannabe CoDs fail, eventually someone will notice and try something different. It's all fine and dandy when the tinier 3rd parties are the ones getting destroyed, but when the big ones start feeling the pain they'll try branching out.

I agree, the timer upped the threat of zombies, not because they could kill you but because they wasted your valuable time.

I am a big proponent of the timer in the main game, but there should also be a sandbox mode like DR2:OTR.

It added an incredible sense of urgency and also made the game almost infinitely replayable as it was simply impossible to see and do everything in one play through.

God, Dead Rising 1 is incredible.

I love you Dead Rising 1. We are connected, you and I.

They closed the demo with an airstrike so I am not surprised. I was expecting some insane and wacky boss cutscene intro to close the demo. Then I saw them call an airstrike and totally checked out. AAA Games Industry is tragically stupid far too often.

I'm pretty sure I could see everything if I actually planned it out, I rescued 50+ survivors once without planning in DR1.

*sigh*

So many games trying to grab that CoD market share. Devs are clueless. They don't want this game. They want something to top CoD or another CoD itself. Did they just forget they have other markets that can lead them to plenty of money? Did anyone think Skyrim could pull in the market share it did for the RPG market?

They made an achievement based around doing exactly that in Dead Rising 1, Transmissionary. It's one of the hardest achievements to earn ever. It's also extremely rewarding and tense when you pull it off, 6 hours straight racing against the clock. It's like an impromptu 100% speedrun. Amazing implementation of Achievements in DR1. Getting rid of the time restraint really trivializes the game.

If you only ever really wanted to go through the story in Dead Rising 1 or 2, you had plenty of time to do it and screw around as well. It's just the compulsive gamer that makes everyone desperate to do and see everything when the game is built for multiple playthroughs from the get go.

I hate achievements, the original Dead Rising is still the only game I've ever played that made them interesting. Rewards for doing things that were difficult, encouragement to play the game in a completely different manner than you normally might, and genuine sense of accomplishment, aside from the genocide one which I'm pretty sure was just an achievement for withstanding boredom caused by driving around in the basement smashing zombies for an hour.

Why would a zombie outbreak cause everything to be brown and muddy. Wouldnt the world actually get more colorfully? When you dont cut your grass or pull weeds they actually grow bigger.

So wouldnt in a real zombie outbreak everything would be more overgrown and colorful?

the Smartglass integration sounds really cool actually

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/11/dead-rising-3-kinect-and-smartglass-integration-detailed/

such as the ability to call in air strikes, drone support or area-wide flares for distracting thousands of zombies at a time.

Smartglass can also be used to locate specific types of items and abandoned storefronts, which Capcom supposes could lead to an interesting form of couch co-op -- one player plays the game proper, while their Smartglass-equipped couchmate plays a supporting role, locating useful weapons, setting waypoints for mission objectives and so on.

"But that stuff is totally optional," a Capcom representative told us. "If you don't want to fool with Smartglass you don't have to, but we tried to develop features that enrich the experience of Dead Rising; help you find weapons, help you find stores, help you get to the stuff you want to get to, as well as cool explosive boom things that are pretty to look at."

THIS is EXACTLYwhat I want to see out of Smartglass

Bring on the hate, but I like the new art style. I won't be getting this, though, because it won't be on PS4, otherwise I'd get it day one.

It could use a tad bit of more color and less browns though.

Like the Last of Us?

I am all for putting stuff in the world that requires gamers to actually search and plan for, as opposed to force feeding it to you, saying "Look at this shit! Is this shit not awesome?!". You get out as much as you put in essentially.

Because the atmosphere would be so edgy it would constantly mow the grass.

Shouldn't you be able to do all that stuff in the pause menu?

Yea because that's just as convenient, have you actually ever used a touchscreen before?

Also I like the fact that someone could be sitting next to me dropping bombs\airstrikes, helping set way points, discover stuff, managing inventory and direct me through the level, basically playing part of the game with my iPad.

Time created "extreme pressure" in the original games, and Capcom wants the zombies to be your biggest threat this time around.

so they are getting rid of the Unique Aspect that made Dead Rising so great IMO?

lololol Y

maybe it's zombie grass...

This generation won't be all about Call of Duty. That was so last-gen.

Of course, this generation might end up being all about Battlefield instead, which is the same thing really. But, still...

Yea the good thing is cod should be done soon. Industry needs a huge fresh of new air and ideas. Everyone needs to do their own thing.

I'd rather be able to hold on to a controller while playing a game instead of having to pick up another device. Maybe that's just me, though. The Xbox One does have snap technology, they could just build these features around that so you never have to put down the controller.

I do this all the time using my ipad as a game guide for Skyrim, the ipad sits on the table or couch next to me and is operated with a single finger hence the controller never needs to be "put down" , it's insanely convenient no idea why people think this is so much of a challenge.

In my case someone else like girlfriend or nephew would have their fun doing the part of the iPad , so we'd basically being playing a single player game as a team.......to me this has endless single couch co-op opportunities.

I don't know why devs ever say something this. I would hope they would be more self-aware. Mentioning "Call of Duty" is bound to bring in negative press. It is not like people playing Call of Duty are going to perk up their ears when someone says that on website they are probably not reading and suddenly buy your game. You get them to by showing them the game and convincing them that it would be something they would like. And in this case in particular, there are tons of successful and "serious" zombie-based IP to bring up anyway. The Walking Dead, Dead Island, Left 4 Dead, Resident Evil (duh).

In most cases, it isn't even true. Resident Evil 6, for example, doesn't actually play like Call of Duty and it is full of things that wouldn't be in a Call of Duty, such as advanced dodge/counter mechanics and a wide variety of enemies who don't pin you behind cover. It likely frustrated casual players and it didn't feature usual online deathmatch multiplayer (the actual reason Call of Duty is successful) until quite later (and even then, not very comparable).

The real news though is that it reconfirms what they said about making the series more serious, at least on the surface. This combined with Xbone exclusivity and essential features of the series being moved to extraneous modes means Capcom has another PR mess on their hands. To be honest threads have become quite tedious to read because all of the resentment and grudges flying around them (maybe one of the worst things about GAF is the obsession over videogame industry drama), but they seem to want to be hated at times. Even if it is completely different in tone or content, there is a chance this game is good (and the "classic" mode they made turns out alright, somehow), but they are making people write the series off by giving the impression they are aiming low. EA spins better than this.

The more I learn about the modern day Capcom the more I'm amazed that DmC was as enjoyable as it was. I remember that Bombcast where Jeff had just been to see their latest games in Italy (RE6 and DmC) and apparently the Capcom guys just wanted to talk about COD and Battlefield.

"Capcom is pointedly trying to appeal to a wider audience in this latest iteration, saying it's going after the Call of Duty player."

it's always at the third installment that developers decide to pull this 'catering to the casuals' shit

And this is why Resident Evil 6 was a huge piece of shit.

Resident Evil 6's complexity was vasty widened compared to previous games, and I really wish Call of Duty was on the same level. It plays nothing like it in any way.

But yeah, my hope of this having the same unique elements as the first two has kind of gone out the window. I'm sure I'll still enjoy, how many polished open world zombie games are there really, but it's still a bummer to read.

Yup, sucked the fun out of the series.

No Psychos, no costumes, no fun environments, not a Dead Rising.

They've confirmed costumes and it's way too early to judge the latter. We saw one tiny bit of an open world game, personally I really liked the boxing shot and thought the music change was quite cool. If they really did remove the psychos though it'll be a major disappointment, they brought a lot of diversity and intensity to the previous games.

Edit: Did a Capcom Vancouver rep actually say they're going after Call of Duty players? It almost reads to me like an assumption on the writer's part, whether then something actually said to them. People love to compare things to Call of Duty after all, even when it doesn't make sense.

Well, it's easier to let go now.

If only someone could make a Dead Rising clone for the other consoles...
