DEAD RISING F'ING ROCKS (hands on impressions)

One of the crowd favorites was the lead pipe--by going into first person mode, you can throw a lead pipe like a javelin into a zombie. When it hits, you hear a sickening splat/thud combo, and then the pipe is left sticking out of the zombie whereever it landed a blow...and blood is spraying out of the open end.

That's awesome :lol

This is one of those games that looks and sounds good, I just hope it actually delivers once it's out.

Sounds a bit hyperbolish. Impressions for this game have been rollercoasting since it was first shown. I still think it looks good, but it's a definite wait and see.

I don't think Matlock's personal impressions are important. What's important is the FACTS he confirmed.

- The game is literally a completely non-linear "72-hour" game with tons of character-based subplots that you can try and tackle before getting the hell out.

- The action is insanely interactive with a huge scope.

- HDTVs kill zombies.

- Kobun-heads blind zombies.

WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT?!

Oh I know....

- KUNG FU SUMO! :lol

the pimp hand is strong

(my shaun of the dead reference is sort of off, as I asked him if he saw it--he said he hasn't yet)

so, uh, really, all you have to do is survive and get to the chopper when it comes? if so, that is fucking awesome. totally free form gaming.

I think you mean to say Production Studio 1 (or) Production Studio 2. There is no Capcom Studio 21 ;p

I didn't make the heading--just updated an old preview. I'll look into that though, thanks.

"You just know you meant to say Dawn of the Dead."

I'm guessing he meant Shaun of the Dead because the game seems to have a pretty silly tone. You know, hitting zombies with golf balls.

Dawn had some pretty silly moments. Shaun is not so far fetched. Still, 24 is way out of line. :lol

Yeah, anyway can you post up more pics (assuming you've taken more pictures other than the ones you've already posted etc.,) -- might as well eh? And is some shit still under NDA?)

looks like lost planet was shown too. i hope we get new media on that as well

It seems like a game that would get pretty repetitive after 15 minutes though. State of Emergency got great writeups from trade shows too. It wasn't until people sat down with it for more than a few minutes that their impressions changed.

Eh, I found this pretty boring when I played it at TGS. The game gives you a lot of different ways to kill zombies - which is fun for about five minutes, and then you realise there seemingly isn't a lot else to the game. Visuals weren't too impressive either.

This looks vastly improved from the tgs game. (watched the trailer on the official site)

Right from the game's outset you'll be aware that a helicopter is going to drop by the mall and save you after 72 hours. In the meantime, it's your job to find out what you can, save hapless humans and make your way to the rendezvous point before the timer runs out. Though the game tracks your time, that doesn't mean it takes an actual 72 hours to finish. According to Capcom's Heiji Inafune who's working with both Dead Rising and Lost Planet, the game will take somewhere around two, possibly three hours to beat if you just stood still and didn't attempt any sidequests. Yes, you read that correctly.

While the game's staggeringly short length may surprise some, Capcom designed Dead Rising to be played through many, many times.
The ultimate goal of the game is to discover the secret of the zombies and save as many people as possible, though you're in no way required to do so. Designed to be totally open-ended, Dead Rising allows you to investigate whatever you want, kill whoever you want and finish the game by completing whatever objectives you saw fit. Despite the hilarity of peppering innocent humans with shotgun blasts, you're not going to get the best ending without at least helping some of them. Many of the side quests yield information important to your investigation, and killing certain foes will be the only way to access areas you'll need to visit to get the answers you seek. Figuring out how to amass all the clues and get the best ending is the core gameplay mechanic of Dead Rising, and what should keep you slaughtering zombies over and over again.

I'm not convinced that this will work that well in practice.

that actually sounds kinda cool. imagine each time you sit down to play, you could play completely through it, each time only seeing a small part of what the whole picture presents. i'm down

The whole gameplay concept and replayability thing sorta reminds me of this game:

I replayed it so many times and it was different almost everytime. It also had great co-op, lets hope Dead Rising does too.

Exactly, and I want to see something while playing that I can't really get to doing as either I don't have enough time left, or I'm busy helping somebody else out. That way, I'll be pumped to start it up again to check out the stuff I saw but couldn't get involved with.

my favorite weapons from the video;

a light saber (!)
a zombies hand (lol)
the dumbbell
a melon

Gamespot has their "hands-on" up...

Time is a factor in the game, since the action is set during the 72-hour period of time you have to kill before help arrives. Events happen in real time as you play, so your choices will let you experience certain events and miss others, which will come to affect your experiences in the game. A challenging twist to this element is the day and night cycles, which will cause a change in your zombie pals. It seems that the undead are sluggish and not so motivated in the daylight hours, however, this changes dramatically at night, when zombies are a good deal more focused and faster.

A lot of that is just PR speak--day/night was not in the build available, but was mentioned in the opening presentation. I noted it, but as it wasn't playable I really didn't see reason to bs about it. :lol

also, uh, other stuffs:

the main character is wearing a mega man watch
120+areas in the game
mall, courtyard, strip mall, seperate shops, a park (that I saw)
inafune referenced romero and dead alive during the interview

Devs are starting to get their head around 360 hardware, the game looks vastly improved. Animation, hit detection, BLOOD etc. Next few months are going to be extremly exciting

Day one purchase for me, trailer looked fun

:D This is the type of game I've wanted since I was a kid and stayed up late night watching Zombie flicks :D :D

....seriously, words can't describe just exactly excited I am and how this game could be a dream come true for me.

....don't let me down Capcom, I don't know if I could take it...

Holy shit at the Servbot helmets :lol

Jeez, so much for not getting a 360, I need this game!
