Bungie knew about the flag-thru-the-wall thing back in the first Halo. I don't think I ever played a no-return CTF game, but I used the trick all the time to nab the lawnchair from underneath in Prisoner and Hang 'Em High.
I was certain that Bungie would fix that 'lil glitch, which seemed rather harmless to me because I'd never thought about its CTF possibilties. I was sorely dissapointed the first time some joker swiped the flag through the wall in Zanzibar. I knew Bungie had failed.
Maybe not as bad, but did anybody else have to deal with vehicle blocking in the first Halo? My group from college was split into two sides, and one side would be cramming hogs and tanks into the base in Sidwinder as soon as the game started. If you've never had to deal with it, getting into a bases with tanks stuck in both entrances is nearly hopeless.
Now, I knew the tank-blocking wouldn't be an issue in Halo 2 because the vehicles were destructable; even in Halo PC the vehicles reset. But the first time I went 'round back of the enemy base in Waterworks and they had crates stacked up in the entrance I felt like turning my Xbox off, seriously. Of course, you can't block both entrances, and there are still two places to drop down from above, but why did they think we even needed the ability to block an entrance? It brings back bad memories.

The stupid part is that the rank system is for matching players of even ability - your rank is totally obscure unless you're in the top five, so the cheaters are basically wasting their own time too.

i havent played almost at all since before christmas (been super busy), and up till today would have said "stop the bitching, its not rampant". however, i just finished playing 6 or 7 games with dopey, 2 of which had cheaters. that is unacceptable, and may ruin the ranked games for me till its fixed, period.

It's pretty friggin sweet. It feels like Coag the way it should be played. I hate that map for slayer. But for this version of CTF Classic it's great.
GOD I'm glad I've had a steady flow of friends in XBC to throw down in Halo 2. Haven't been back on XBL in a while and until Bungie gets with the program I'll likely be staying in XBC land.
Funny, that one of the best ways to play Halo 2 online currently is through a free program. If not for XBC, I'd be pissed.

Actually, I am somewhat surprised at all the glitches found in Halo 2 online. UT2K4 didn't have nearly as many problems and that is a PC release where you figure more exploitations would be made. I've stopped playing Halo 2 online until I see a patch come out. Hopefully it comes soon.
Yeah there's cheaters there too, but I haven't found anywhere near as many since there's nothing to gain or lose over XBC.

I question how much of this Bungie can actually fix. It is not like a Unreal Tournament with 4 gigs of data on a drive. Most of these glitches seem to stem not only from map geometry, but also hard coded physics and deeply embedded engine programming.
I think it pretty much comes down to how much freedom Bungie gave themselves for patching. I'm sorry to say for a lot of you, but if Bungie didn't give themselves access to some of that deeply coded stuff, nothing short of a recall will fix it.

That's not technically true. The really annoying cheats are not exploiting the game, they're exploiting their internet connection by well... I don't want to say how to do it, but let's just say that it can't be done by only pressing buttons on the xbox controller. There are some of the smaller glitches like grabbing the flag through floors/walls, but those are not nearly as bad as the invisible flag captures.

Yeah I dont' care about grabbing flags through walls. Big deal. That can actually be defended against. Its the impossible stuff like ghost cheating, standby, etc. that is killing this game.
And as much as I hate it, I won't boycott the game. That won't change anything. All I'll be doing is depriving myself of fun and hurting my clan by not being there. Plus its FUN to play random people we don't know. Its made even better by crushing them after they've called us "fag" or "nigger" or some shit. That said, its equally enraging when you lose to some cheater and they sit and call you those names. Its like you want to strangle the life out of them. What the fuck motivates people to be such assholes anyway? Trouble getting laid? Nobody loves you? Not enough material possessions? I don't get it. I never will either.
I will say this though, its very satisfying to hear somebody call me a "rocket/sniper/sword/pistol whore" and basically use every generic insult in the book as I hammer them into the ground 10-0 Head to Head. I hardly ever speak to people like that and I know it totally irks them that I ignore their remarks, stay silent, and just murder them.
*One last thing* Wanna say that there IS still a small number of cool people getting matched against me in Head to Head. I lost a couple of games today but they didn't sting at all because the winners were such cool people. No real shit talking, just people being civil. And here I thought that was too much to ask....

I've been playing World of Warcraft for some time now, totally ignoring Halo 2 after achieving ranks in the teens. And now it's a cheater's haven? Ick.

Bungie HAS fixed glitches like this before. Myth: The Fallen Lords had plenty of glitches, like the Fetch being able to shoot lightning across the entire map, and Trow being able to telekinetically kick a unit across the screen.
Only problem is, Bungie took FOREVER to get a patch out on both instances. The cheaters discovered the Trow kick trick after Bungie fixed the Fetch lightning glitch.
I wonder what's holding them back from just solving these damn bugs? Incompatibility between non-patched Xboxes over system link?
Oh well.... Back to WoW until Bungie gets their shit together.

As to your first comment, I suspect Bungie is struggling with what they are able to patch. Since the entire game is not stored on the harddrive, that makes patches harder to do. They're banning people like crazy for this, from what I've read.

It's most likely an application fix, not a content fix. They're not going to have to re-design maps or anything. That's where the big files are located.

I kicked someone from a game for killing a teamate. Then he went all apeshit becuase it wasn't a ranked game and just ran around trying to kill me. This was a month ago, I haven't touched the game since.

because of the rampant cheating, it seems this game is turning into CS.....where people accuse you of cheating even tho you're not because of the MASS cheating.
either way, i think cheaters are lame. I dont really see the point....because its not a true victory.
oh well, i dont really give a shit about my rank anymore. makes the game more enjoyable.

Is there anybody on this forum who writes for one of the larger websites (1up, Gamespot, etc...), who's willing to write a major story on this?
The cheating has gotten really bad, but Bungie's responce (to date) has been worse. Rants on an obscure forum won't do much, but scathing articles from well recognised media sorces might get someone attention.
If I were doing one, I'd even give intructions on how to do these cheats, just to magnify the problem.... at the very least, then everyone could cheat equally.

Using the warthog glitch on coagulation, you could get 100 flag captures in 100 seconds if done correctly.

I distinctly remember reading that you could not move as a ghost, that moving would send you back to your body, thus the need of a warthog and elevator beams to get the ghost to the flag in coagulation.
