Demon's Souls |OT| Power was granted, so the world could be mended

How did you manage to get enough stones of ephemeral eyes?
I've been killing myself in world 2 instead of the nexus because there are no important pwwt events there now (then after I finish 3 and do pwwt events there I'll start suiciding in 3) but I think I'm going to need to "artificially" turn 3 worlds into pbwt, and then do it again for the primeval demons.
Unless... Is it possible to kill a primeval demon, like in 2-1 and the warp to 2-2 instead of the nexus to kill the BP scirvir?
Does wt refresh when you change area or only when you go to the nexus?

Apologies for any lower level people going for the Old Monk tonight. My lvl 30 char got firestorm and I had to test it out, while I suicided in 2-2 to get the world to black tendency so I could get the talisman of beasts. I was the a$$hole that was hitting you with firestorm once you got in the boss fight room. One shot kills. I did make sure that no one was repeated...that only happened once and then I let them kill me since I'd already wrecked them one! I forgot how awesome Firestorm is in this game. I wanted to use fireball instead to have the ranged option but instead went with the lava bow and firestorm. Yikes!

Cause he has the best prices for heavy arrows in the nexus!
as others have mentiond you need to stun lock him so he cant heal. You can take a good chunk of his health off with a parry or backstab as well.

Edit: Here is the video

Thanks. Hmmm. Well, I’m pure strength build, using bastard sword and claymore. The bastard sword does stun lock him but I can only swing three times before my endurance is out.

I’ll get him somehow.

I’m doing exactly the same thing when I’m done with this run through.

The discussion and tip-sharing in here is heartwarming. Reminds me of video games before the internet really took off. I was born in 1995, but I have distinct memories of all the kids in the neighborhood meeting up to talk about Ocarina of Time and sharing weird rumors/secrets (e.g. "Shoot an arrow into the sun to get fire arrows!") - good times. It feels like Soulsborne games are the only titles that bring that feeling back.

Any tips on farming large Hardstone shards?

Is it just a case of farming 2-1 and 2-2?

For all of the criticism you might see of secrets etc, the games were explicitly designed to be played as a community. Messages in game, forums, piecing it all together. It doesn’t last forever, but I love what it does

Already finished the game. Started out with a Temple Knight, and focussed on vit, end and str. Pumped just enough into intelligence and faith to use second chance. Through most of the game, I wore the red-eyed knight armor with the heater shield and my main weapon was a claymore (by endgame upgraded until crushing +4), that I used one-handed or two-handed depending on the situation. As a backup I had an upgraded compound longbow. Ring of Great strength and Cling ring.

For the flamelurker I switched the shield to Purple Flame Shield.
When I found the Dark Silver Armor and Shield, I wore those.
If necessary, I used the Thief Ring, mostly in 4-2 against the reapers.
Gloom armor for the Valley of Defilement.

All in all, it was smooth sailing and very fun to play. I never felt I was underpowered because I didn't have any magic. I do still hate the entire valley of defilement.

By the time I've done enough runs to clean out the Crystal Lizard pit in 2-2 I've always had all the Large Hardstone shards I need.

Having said that, if you still need more there's a vendor in 2-2 that sells them. I believe they cost 1500 souls each. I think I'd go that route before trying to actually farm a low drop rate.

7+ hours in I was stuck on the second part of gate 1 (1-2, is how you call it?) and decided to dig around and only now realised how to level up and who you had to talk to on the nexus after the first boss.... i once tried to find it just to die from a impossible to recover ledge and loose almost 5k souls i had with me, lol.

I'm currently trophy hunting. I dread going for all the rings, the amount of work left to do is insane

I just recently got all the rings. One of the rings you get for Digital Deluxe are extremely rare to get. Luckily my friend got the item needed to drop and just traded it to me. When he wants to I'm simply going to trade all the rings he needs back to him. Easiest and fastest way really.

Also there is no need to farm for actual drops of Sharpstone, Hardstone, or their Large equivalents. You can buy them from the merchant in 2-1 (regular) and 2-2 (large).

I just remembered something as well. Lots of people like to go to Latria to get summoned as the 'boss' by the Old Monk. If you do this and beat the player and/or his phantoms, it will shift your character tendency towards black. This affects your max HP in soul form and a few other things. Since you don't get souls for this summon, all you get is the head wrapping and negative character tendency. So if you WANT that, it's a good idea. If not...don't go there or at least don't go there many times. If the player gets killed on the way to the boss, you get the 'win' and the head wrapping, but your character tendency is then NOT affected.

Hope this helps!

You can farm the rolling skeletons in 4-1 for exp and get crescent falcon there. It is very helpful at the start of the game.

I am 30str, my crushing axe is still not better than crescent falcon, at what point strenght will a weapon outclass it? Also got a claymore from a random drop and it won't outdamage falcon and it's slow as hell.

Fuck I just got invaded and subsequently raped for the first time.

I've done 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 3-1 and entered 4-1. The guy had some weird shit on his head (like a giant turban I guess lol) and obviously did some weird magic shit because the moment I landed my first blow I just instantly turned into blue dust lol

What a game. Love it.

hahah i still keep dying even after learning the levels and beating the game once. even when i am blazing through the bosses, i never fail to get owned by the level itself.

some absolutely hilarious fails too. i was struggling through 5-2 last night and kept getting killed by these two giant dudes who took 5-10 minutes to get to. eventually my soul memory got bigger and bigger. then of course, just get killed one-shotted by the first guy i see.

that's when i rage quite and play some Crash Trilogy to clear my mind. :pie_wfwt:

sometimes you just start fucking up, you got to step away.

This is the thing people who haven’t played the Souls games don’t understand when they start in on the whole it’s too hard and too obtuse argument. The game’s difficulty and piecemeal narrative is one of the main reasons for the growth of such a great gaming community. Souls games are built for cooperation, discovery and analysis.

5-2 is pretty much universally regarded as the nastiest level in the game. It's torture.

I finally cleared 5-2 last night. What a slog. Normally I binge on these games but I’ve been so busy with work and kids home, I can only play for a hour or less at a time. So I felt like I was stuck in that swamp for days, as I started getting annoyed I started rushing and that just made my die more often. Classic souls.

Sadly, I just realized that this is the place where faintstone comes from and I need a lot to make either a blessed Claymore or Guillotine Axe for my faith character. I’m doomed to never leave here.

On the upside, the 3d audio is amazing in this area. I don’t know what brightness people play on, but on my tv is it very dim in this whole area. I mean any fire looks amazing, but in the shadows it’s frighteningly dark. I often heard enemies sneaking around before I ever saw them.

You should search the swamp area for a unique faith scaled weapon. It's probably the coolest looking in the entire game and it has no need for upgrading it other than a slightly better bonus to it's faith scaling.

Being vague not to spoil it exactly :messenger_grinning_sweat:

What are the best weapons for a soul mage?

I'm currently using the silver catalyst and the cresent falchion +5.

I tried upgrading other weapons to cresent +, but the falchion seems to be always better.

And the insanity catalyst cuts you mp in half. Not sure if its worth it?

Any suggestions?

Oh...shit.... I really wish they'd quit missing with this game. I believe the latest patch just sealed the regenerator ring skip in 4-1. Dammit!

Edit- Nevermind...I'm an idiot. I could have sworn that even when I did the skip yesterday you had to go at a diagonal angle. Guess not! Doh!

World 5 is down. That wasn't too bad at all. It's my only world in white tendency because I kept one-shotting the levels.

I died once to the big hammer galoot protector after I parried him twice and went after him in the ankle-high blood water that for some reason completely keeps you from being able to roll. Went back in and parried him 3 times instead.

Well, it depends on if you're going SOLELY magic or not. I personally like to get the Talisman of Beasts that lets you cast spells AND miracles. The catch is that you have to have 18 faith and 18 mag to use it. And....it does more damage if those stats are balanced. In other words even a soul arrow will do much more damage at 30 magic and 30 faith, than it will if you have 30 magic and 20 faith, so you keep those balanced. At 30/30, it starts to outperform the insanity catalyst and you don't get your spell points cut in half like you do with insanity. So I like that. Since I'm on that path anyway, I take the Large Sword of Moonlight. Scales "S" to faith and it IGNORES SHIELDS since the blade is made of moonlight. It absolutely wrecks invaders and the game enemies alike. You can upgrade it with colorless demon souls. Also I'd recommend trying out the Kris. You get it almost at the end of 2-1. It's not great as a weapon per se...but it also amplifies the damage you put out with magic. By 10% I believe and if you upgrade it to +5 it ups by like 30%. Like the ring of magical sharpness, you also TAKE more damage from magic, but you can work around that easily. Combine the kris with the ring and then say the Monk's Collar and you will OWN.

Moonlight sword at +5 does something crazy like 355 damage as well and again, if you opponent has their shield up, it's like that shield doesn't exist. :) I love playing that kind of setup. I can get there by level 27-30 or so... fun!

How do you learn spells? I am 3 Archstones in and still have no Scrolls (probably useless now, so many stats outside of magic)

Talk to everyone on the ground floor of the Nexus. Also in world 3-1 you should get a key before the first boss where you can go back to the prison and release a prisoner (Not the blue phantom, but a person). That person will sell you the BIG spells that you use boss souls to get.

I don't know why I'm always so tempted by pure DEX builds, but I've done it yet again.

I'm looking forward to a STR/FTH build next playthrough. Maybe I'll even map out what armors/weapons I want and gun for them quickly. This first playthrough has been a slow and deliberate pace where I'm killing everything and grabbing everything. But obviously you don't need everything for every character.

Ok, I'm curious, because I'd think the crushing axe should be better by then. Can you list all your stats please? Also, not sure where you've been. In world 2, if you get white world tendency, you can get THE strength weapon of the game. Big and slow, but it really hits.

Thanks for your input!

Soley Magic!

But dosn't the cresent falchion also amplifies magic like the kris?
I'm confused.

Still need to collect the monk's collar. I play offline to have full control over world tendencies.

Thanks again!

20 vit, 19 end and 30 str.

I've done 1-1, 1-2, 2-1 and 3-1 so far. About to do 4.1 for easy souls farming in 4-2

With crushing axe I have 88 plus 48 bonus attack in physical atk. With crescent scimitar it gives me 67 physical but also 82 +9 in magic attack.

With that in mind it gives me 157 attack power for scimitar and 136 with crushing axe

Trying to farm a gold coin in 2-1 with the discovery ring and pure black tendency and all I get is grass.
*sigh*
I'm already afraid of farming Pure Bladestone later.

😳 Now that you mention it....that’s the whole reason I came to the swamp in the first place. Somebody else here mentioned it a few days ago. I got so caught up in running away from depraved swamp things that I forgot to go look for it.

Back to the mire.
