Demon's Souls PSN Release 1/8 -- $19.99

I still have to upgrade 1 more weapon to get platinum on that game. Unfortunately I have to finish and make my way into another game because I accidentally slapped around Stockpile Thomas on my current play through.

...

Stupid controller.

I know the feel. I accidentally smashed the 2-1 blacksmith with a greatsword right after giving him flamelurker's soul

Reading this really makes me wish that the reason Miyazaki isn't working on Dark Souls 2 is because he's running Demon's Souls II for PS4 launch...

I can dream lol.

I'll dream with ya. Haven't played Dark Souls yet myself though. On my backlog list.

I think it actually might be possible. If Sony wants Souls on PSV, it would make sense for them to money-hat an exclusive Demon's Souls 2 for PS3/PSV cross-play.

I can dream harder than you son!

This and Uncharted 2 are the best reasons to play video games this gen.

Fall 2009 was the best year of the generation for these two games alone.

Its a great game, and more different to Dark than most give it credit for. The hub approach gives it a different feel because you are always choosing a realm to invade, and the way its split into sections with distinct start/end points makes it feel a lot more "gamey".

If FROM really wanted to, they could differentiate it out pretty well from Dark Souls, but I suspect BamCo wouldn't be too happy lol.

My favorite game this gen, hands down. Great that it's getting a digital release. Hopefully they keep the servers up even longer now. You can still find people at a range of levels with great connections even up to now, last night I just had help from 2 phantoms with my level 156 character.

Does this mean that it will also have the same title id as the disc version?

Shamefully I only unlocked a few trophies in the disc version before selling it. Since then, i've beaten Dark Souls so want to go back to this and it would be nice if it carried on using the same set of trophies I already have.

Is it possible for them to patch the game to be peer to peer, for when they eventually do shit down the servers?

Years from now I'll be able to play dark with a buddy, but if the servers for demon's are down it's all over, right?

Dodge rolling with little armor is the best shit ever since you are speedy as fuck.

Dodge rolling with heavy armor sucks and you are slow as fuck, makes it easier for you to die.

I just started playing (got it used last week for $15), and I'm reading some tips online.

I read that parry --> riposte is the offensive tactic I should be using... but no? Dodge roll is better (and by dodge roll... do you guys mean just hitting Circle?)?

I was halfway through the third world with the Cthulhu heads when my hard drive died and I lost my save. :(

Yes, by hitting circle. You can roll right through enemy attacks. Parry/riposte is damaging but risky, and if you don't want to, you never have to bother with it.

i've stayed away from these games because dont they rely heavily on a server? which will inevitably be shut down?

Someone can probably answer this better... but I'm 3-4 hours in and the game hasn't once explained the online component to me. So as far as I can tell it isn't necessary to play the game.

Its not 100% necessary but you are rewarded heavily by using the online component, it is so unique, I cant even begin to explain it all, goes far and beyond just multiplayer battles.

BTW the servers arent going to disappear anytime soon, and you can finish the game without them even if they did.

Do not try to riposte attacks unless you know the timing and you know what you're doing, otherwise it will fuck you up massively if you time it wrong.

Yeah, blocking is good too. Just monitor your stamina bar and know which actions will take it down too far.

Don't...Don't you dare do that to me.

Would be amazing beyond all that there is in gaming.

Online is more active than it's been in quite some time thanks to this release actually. And it's still worth getting even if you never go online. But the online is great and very unique.

This would be the most incredible thing ever. I am with you man. Demon's Souls is my favorite game of this generation.

Everyone should get this. I loved Demon's Souls from start to finish.

But, man... I can't really finish Dark Souls. At least I finished Demon's Souls, feels good. Get it people!

Highly recommended. Got it at random, took me like a year to finish, I kept going back to it between other releases. Highly addictive. Playing through Dark Souls PTD now, also recommended.

Would buy another, easily. I doubt it would be 'Dark Souls II' though, they'd probably call it "Evil Souls" or "Unreasonably Mean Souls" or something. Pack it with the PS4 Sony!

So does this use the same Trophy set as the disc version?

Yes.

If you have played disc version Demon's Souls on that profile, everything is compatitble with the download.

It's literally playing the disc version without the disc

Same load times right?

Dark Souls II was already announced

i still know a few folks that enjoyed dark and didn't do this one...this is like the best $20 you're gonna spend this gen, people.

if you're unfamiliar, it's hard at first...push past it! very few games reward the way this one does.

I love how most levels start out requiring hours of vigilant play and multiple deaths, and the feeling you get when you master it and can beeline to the boss with shortcuts. Great level design throughout. Although If I had to pick a least favorite it would reluctantly be world 4. Which is incredible considering that it's better than most other RPG's highs.

I tried going back to Demon's Souls after Dark Souls: Prepare to Durante Edition because I never finished it, but I couldn't because graphics. :(

I enjoyed it a lot before I was spoiled, though.

Shitty framerate and poison swamp aside, world 5 is my favorite, narrowly edging out world 3. I've had some epic pvp duels in 5-1 and that feeling when you're good enough to take out more than one Giant Defiled One at once and you're no longer scared of them is unmatched. Plus everything about 5-3.

I haven't noticed a difference personally
I think they might actually be longer, but that's probably just me paying attention this time rather than zoning out. At any rate if decreased load times is why you're interested you may as well not bother as it's marginally improved at best.
