PSP sold 167k, (193k software sold in total).
DS sold 156k, 557k total.

Looks like the DS in it's 2nd week almost manages to beat out PSP!!

No, a system that sold 500k last week has managed to hold over enough sales to outsell another system that has only launched last week.

Who's fault is it that only 200k were shipped? Are you saying that if 500k were shipped then it would have sold 500K?

The DS sold about 468k units or around there last week, not 500k. 500k were shipped.

Are you saying that if 500k were shipped then it would have sold 500K?

No. It wouldn't have sold 500k. It would have sold about 468k or thereabouts just like another certain handheld did.

Whose fault is it that only 200k were shipped?

While it's not my fault only 200k were shipped, I also didn't get excited over the fact that the DS in a full week of sales and more units on the market (going by averages, perhaps about 50,000-75,000 more) couldn't outsell a more expensive unit that was on sale for a day.

it didn't beat up. And PSP was on sale for ONE day in limited quantities. Try again.

Could we wait for the end of this year or march next year before arguing about which one did/does better?

Oh, sorry, forgot this is GAF :)

No, the DS sold anything from 405k to 510k depending on who you ask, who they surveyed etc etc. I think it's safe to say it sold out (500k).

The fact that the DS and the games will continue to sell good numbers all over xmas and the PSP will drop away next week also bodes well. Sawaru and Mario 64 DS will have hit 500k by the end of the year without much trouble, while PSP games will be lingering on around 250k tops.

Why don't sony ship more units and games then?

Seriously son, you're fighting a losing battle. Maybe not this month or the next, but it will eventually end in tears.

Not at all, I'm merely saying that the DS is currently kicking the PSPs ass in Japan as expected. You can read what you want into it.

I think the big issue is- WHY ARE PACHISLOT GAMES SO DAMN POPULAR???

OH MY GOD, 250K difference!!

Uh... your math's a *tad* off. Unless you're just talking about launch weeks.

No one cares about PS2 or GC sales? Are they obsolete now?

I don’t see how PSP sales could have been much higher. The early adopters got their units and sales would have plumed harshly afterwards. PSP is a gimmick at best since people will rather play console games on their TV rather then a tiny screen, PSP software sales are proof of that.

05 PSP Everybody's Golf Portable
06PSP Ridge Racers
28 PSP Armoured Core: Formula Front

Those are pretty high second week numbers for the DS still.

Both DS and PSP should see a large upturn in sales as the holiday gift giving season in Japan approaches.

God I love Sony. Only cause they kick Nintendo in the ass and make them get serious. Next gen starting now should be really interesting. Go PSP!

Actually when Sony announced the $200 price point for the PSP, I was almost certain Nintendo would have to drop the price of the DS ... but it looks like Nintendo was right to ride out the holidays with their price point as is since it seems like they're gonna sell out no matter what.

Late December/early January causes a sharp rise in hardware/software sales regardless in Japan, so they probably won't even think about dropping the DS' price until next spring.

Actually the opposite happened in regards to DS and PSP. Nintendo forced Sony to lower their price,, wireless, battery etc. Right now its a game of catch up for Sony against DS. Forget GBA, it makes PS2 lead look meek in comparison.

I firmly believe MGS3 will outsell ToR and easily outsell the US MGS3 sales based on word of mouth so far from the Japanese. We shall see...

Dear Broshnat
You are talking shit about PSP
And you are defending the NDS until DEATH
We got to words for that: "trolling' and "fanboy"
So just stop it and play a little bit NDS, ok?! So, everybody will be happy!
PEACE

Oh, and.....:

Sure it would! If you don't belive that ------> :lol :lol

by the way:
AniHawk, did you played Jak 3 already? And? You like it? :)

How can I troll my own thread exactly...

And what do I need to defend?? All I've done is post a chart and comment that the DS is currently kicking the life out of the PSP in Japan. The numbers are there for all to see...

What am I defending?

Its their form of damage control i presume. Its shocking that DS has come this far. I dont think anyone predicted it to do better than PSP when first revealed.

The DS is kicking what? :lol
The PSP is sold out! If SONY shipped 500.000 units they would still sell every single unit.
So your "NDS is kicking PSPs ass" is the dumbest peace of shit I heard for a long time!
Makes no sense!
So the fact is: You opend this thread to troll against PSP.
That's how I see it.
But ok, go ahead! :)

Oh yeah, sure.... *rolleyes*

rofl, yeah, doing better because they got more units to sell. Really, doing better, yes .... :lol

At launch this isnt a good thing to say at all. Pretty bad infact and damage control at the same time.

Its being outsold by DS.

Boy, I repeat: If SONY shipped 500.000 units they would still sell every single unit. You got that in your head? :)

How do you know that? :lol fanboy senses.

200,000 is a pitifully low number to launch with.

Did you see the "human-lines" at the stores? The lines at the DS launch were a joke against that. The hype, the media in japan. Outsold in a few hours. Just think a bit, little boy!

200.000 is really a low number. But hey, they wanted to launch it as early as possible.
Oh, ok! Let's wait a few months more for more units only to shut the mouth of Little Deg! Yeah, right! :lol

You act like the 200,000 is a million units :lol Right now the gap between DS and PSP is 'growing'. Surely thats a good thing for PSP according to your logic ;) 'Wait till...'? Why wait when they are both out now?

Bullshit. Next you will say how people should just buy all consoles and be happy. Isnt that right?

Deg said:

I do not know. hmm maybe we should wait till they are both out for a week. Then compare week sales, instead of one day of PSP sales.

No, I personally would like to see Nintendo hold on to the one market they have left as well. But it's still too early.

Its early days but right now GBASP will remain dominant, looking at both new machines.

Wont make a difference. The numbers are quite small so far. I say wait at least 2-3 weeks.

Deg said:

What are you asking..I'm not the one coming across as a complete moron here.

The demand for a PSP is much higher than for DS. They are both selling out due to a demand for both. The DS has a much higher number shipped and been out longer, therefore the higher numbers sold. This is commonsense stuff.
